Epinephrine effects on the heart

Common Questions and Answers about Epinephrine effects on the heart

epipen

Avatar f tn I had to get stitches last night, and was given 5-6 shots of epinephrine and lidocane. I told the intake nurse I was taking synthroid (which I presume implies thyroid problems). I felt a little "unusual" afterward (pounding heart, feeling calm and detached..), and was googling the side effects of the shot.. an article said this: "Additionally, epinephrine and lidocaine usually aren’t used in patients with thyroid disease, or disease of the kidneys or liver.
Avatar f tn Hagan, The eyedrops to dialate the pupils will they go into your bloodstream? I had one eye doctor tell me no, another one said yes. I cannot have epinephrine at the dentist due to severe reactions as in a racing heart, PVC's, and a rise in BP. My question: Do these drops have enough in it to maybe cause for me to have the same reaction? So far I always got eye drops without epinephrine/or something equal to epinephrine, but this last eye doctor did not want to use any drops at all.
Avatar n tn i don't know what the diagnosis is for your heart problems, but i do have a remedy for heart health that is supposed to be highly preventitive for any clogged arteries by removing it. You mix onion juice, garlic juice, lemon juice, and apple cider vinegar together. 1 cup of each, in a pot and boil it for like 20 to 30 minutes until about 3 cups of fluid remains. Then, wait until it cools and mix it in a jar with 3 cups of honey.
Avatar f tn s correct that local anesthetics contain both lidocaine and adrenalin (epinephrine). They both can have effects on the heart, adrenalin has an obvious effect and lidocaine is actually an antiarrhythmic drug (class 1b sodium blocker) which may have proarrhythmic effects. The problem is - adrenalin is added to prevent the lidocaine from having systemic effects, the blood vessels are constricted. If you have reactions towards lidocaine, choosing the one without adrenalin would be bad.
Avatar f tn Well, I just had to have a root canal done on Thursday. I did not want to do it without the epinephrine. The epi makes the anesthesia last longer, if you use the anesthesia without, it wears off in a very short time. I called my EP and he said it would be ok to take up to 10 mg of my beta blocker (I usually take 5) and to be sure I took it at least 2 hours before the procedure. So I did that, took an ativan and I was fine(except for having a root canal).
Avatar f tn At any rate, it might be worth checking out. As you probably know, extra pounds can be hard on the heart, can be a risk factor for diabetes, etc.. I know it can be harder with menopause to lose the pounds.
Avatar f tn It's the epinephrine in the anesthetic that causes the racing heart, etc. Next time you're at the dentist and you need/want an anesthetic ask for one WITHOUT epinephrine. The medication generally takes a little longer to "kick in" and wears off faster, but your dentist will work with you for maximum comfort.
1817071 tn?1366228243 I am hoping it works as I had quite a few side effects on the Norpace. Good for you, getting another doctor. I do not think the doctors realize how difficult and life changing afib can be. I am considering an ablation, but hope the Rythmol works for a while so I have a chance to look into whether and where I want to have an ablation. It has made my life so limited I am ready to do almost anything. Good luck and let us know how you do with the new doctor.
1399363 tn?1462342610 I just got root cannal treatment for 1 teeth last week for the 1 day. The doctor killed the nerve(thats what they told me) temporary filled it and sent me home. Yesterday i went back there and the doctor said they clean up my root cannal and pull out the nerve, filled it and sent me home. I am not sure what exactly they did during the process since i couldn't really see. They told me to come back next week.
Avatar f tn An EKG is not a reliable source to diagnose a prior heart attack. The output of the EKG is elevation of the ST segment of a heart beat, and there are a number of other insignificant causes such as electrolytic imbalance, medication, etc. And always a positive EKG test requires other tests and supporting symptoms. Several years ago, I was shocked to learn I had had a prior attack and didn't have the usual symptoms. A stress test or echocardiogram is the appropriate followup tests.
Avatar f tn POTS and dental anesthesia, see here for general information on the effects of local anesthetics and the types available: http://www.aafp.org/afp/2002/0701/p91.html It is possible that the anesthetic agent itself is having cardiovascular effects. It does say in the aforementioned article, "Local anesthetics can also have profound effects on the cardiovascular system. At low doses, local anesthetics cause systemic vasoconstriction and raise blood pressure.
Avatar n tn Animal studies have revealed evidence of teratogenicity when epinephrine was given in doses approximately 25 times the usual recommended human dose (on a per kg basis). There are no reports of teratogenicity in humans. There are no controlled data in human pregnancy. Epinephrine is only recommended for use during pregnancy when benefit outweighs risk.
383138 tn?1314167773 I dont know what to do, so any info on the lidocaine and any contraidictions with heart arrhythmias would be helpful. Thankyou.
Avatar f tn Paxil is an SSRI that helps with depression and anxiety. I checked to see if it had any effects on the heart. The only thing I read was that it may affect the hearts of unborn children so pregnant women should not take it. Also, remember that if you start the Paxil you may feel a bit worse before you feel better. It takes time to kick in and your body to adjust. Perhaps if your doctors can get your fears under control, the heart arrhythmias will ease up as well.
1305767 tn?1361192676 I had some teeth pulled today and the anxiety wasn't bad this time because they gave me nitrous but I learned they put epinephrine in the local anesthetic shots (it has something to do with helping the anesthetic last longer) So I'm thinking the epinephrine sends my anxiety level from like a six to a ten. Last November I had a tooth pulled and while the dentist was injecting the shot my heart rate got so high I almost passed out. They put a monitor on my finger and it was about 150!
Avatar n tn It certainly can be depending on the difficulty of the extraction and whether there was an infection present at the time of the extraction. It also can be related to the age of the patient and medications she might be taking.
Avatar f tn Sounds like hormone shifts causing the mood swings and especially anxiety attacks. Seems we get adrenaline or epinephrine pushes without a quick nor epinephrine response due to hormone changes. I'm been through it. Doctors were no help at first, then I was medicated with a Beta blocker for an entirely different problem (blood pressure and heart rate issues) and wow.....
Avatar n tn I have a terrible problem with tartar accumulation on several adjacent teeth on the top left. At least one of the teeth is bad. Unfortunately, I also have a severe phobia about the dentist complicated by heart issues (PVC's, sinus tachycardia and other generally bizarre palpitations) and severe anxiety. The last dentist I went to pulled two teeth with no anesthesia. I thought I was going to die from the pain. What should I expect in a case like this?
Avatar m tn Doctors say it is not because of the spray because so little is absorbed into the system through the nose, but I have read online that Beconase is absorbed more than other nasal sprays, (up to 44% of each dose is swallowed). I have seen numerous people reporting palpitations and other systemic effects across the internet after using Beconase and other brands (Nasonex, Flonase etc) of steroid nasal sprays. Has anyone had a similar experience?
Avatar f tn m also quitting smoking.) He said that one of the side effects could be suicidal thoughts. I have never had these before in my life. I am scared to death that this medication is going to make me think about things like that. Does this happen to a lot of people? And, does it happen with people who don't usually have these types of thoughts?
Avatar f tn An increase in sympathetic nervous system stimulation causes the heart rate to increase, both by the direct action of sympathetic nerve fibers on the heart and by causing the endocrine system to release hormones such as epinephrine (adrenaline), which have a similar effect. Increased sympathetic stimulation is usually due to physical or psychological stress.
Avatar f tn Can anyone here tell me if ms has any effect on either of the hormones epinephrine or norepinephrine?
Avatar m tn Thanks for all the feedback, everyone. I think everyone is hitting on key points with Primatene. Epinephrine is an inhaled adrenaline. You don't get the same adrenaline rush as if you injected it as not a lot of it gets into your blood stream. It is incredibly effective at opening your lungs up, though. Anyway, I've been on QVAR as a maintenance and Proventil as a rescue since I made the initial post and I don't feel the need for Primatene anymore.
1047019 tn?1256719961 The preservative is necessary to keep the epinephrine fresh (epi quickly deteriorates and becomes useless otherwise). The standard local anesthetic cartridges (called lidocaine in the U.S. and lignocaine in the U.K.) have epi added". http://www.dentalfearcentral.org/allergy_novacaine.html Epinephrine is just synthetic adrenaline. You can't be allergic to something you have in your body but you can be sensitive to it.
Avatar n tn , You bring up an excellent question relative to maintaining your current level of control of the heart rhythm. In such a circumstance, working on lowering cortisol levels with stress reduction, such as through the use of products to support healthy cortisol levels such as B vitamins (Extension B-Plex) and SeriPhos® can help with abdomen weight. Also increased fiber intake (such as Fiber-Rite) with carbohydrate meals can help.
Avatar n tn Hello I have severe reactions from insect stings especially bee stings. Its so bad that 1 or 2 stings will put me into anaphylactic shock. I have over 5000+ PVC's a day and the docs say it is a supposed benign condition. (which I do not believe). My wife has never had a pvc or palpitations. Anyways, I have to carry around a epipen everywhere I go. Last year I was working in my back yard and was stung twice, once in the face under the eye and once in my arm.
