3791484 tn?1348234566 The first step in controlling hives is to identify the cause, if possible. If the source of the problem can be identified and avoided , try to avoid exposure to it in the future. A mild case of hives often disappears on its own after a few hours. A longer-lasting case should respond to the manufacturer's recommended dosage of an over-the-counter oral antihistamine. If your hives don't disappear in a few days, you should see a doctor.

Avatar f tn I have had hives for a day & a half. I would like to know if this could be related to nerves. I don't have any food allergies. I went to the doctor yesterday, she gave me a shot of Epinephrine. That helped for a couple of hours. I have been taking benadryl every 6 hours & putting blue star ointment on. Before I got the shot my mouth was swelling and I almost lost my voice. Please, let me know what to do.

Avatar n tn About 8yrs ago I suffered anaphylaxis reaction to what I thought was pecan nuts. Symptoms being difficulty breathing, swelling closing airways etc. I was tested and from what I remember they said I was more allergic to dog hair than I was to pecan nuts which was weird. Anyway, I have had no further problems since apart from mild allergy to bananas (itchy throat) which I thought was ok to just live with.
4451049 tn?1387153437 @ ephedra It sounds as if you were going into anaphylactic shock. Maybe not to the point where you might die but enough to warrant great caution! No wonder your doctor agreed you were right to go off of it! So, no I don't think that was a herx. Or if it was------ it was a dangerous one and should never be tolerated. Mayo Clinic says: "Anaphylaxis symptoms usually occur within minutes of exposure to an allergen.
Avatar m tn t go away in 5 to 10 minutes, or if you have other symptoms, call your doctor right away. It can be Exercise-induced anaphylaxis. Also wear medical alert jewelry or ID tags describing the condition and sensitive substances and always carry a self-injectable epinephrine kit (Epi pen). I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
539780 tn?1213943976 Hi, The familiar symptoms of bee and wasp stings include pain, redness, swelling, and itchiness in the area of the sting. Multiple stings can have much more severe consequences, such as anaphylaxis, a life-threatening allergic reaction that occurs in hypersensitive persons. Emergency medical kits containing self-administrable epinephrine to counter anaphylactic shock are available for allergic people and should be carried by them at all times.
1460427 tn?1285773515 I was diagnosed a little over a year ago by immunology because I demanded the testing or they never would have found it. I now have epinephrine and am on an all natural estrogen that is doing well most of the time compared to various organs failing almost every month from anaphylactic shock. I suffer a slow forming anaphylaxis and most of my reactions are internalized effecting my organs and muscles.
1666434 tn?1325262350 Then about 2 weeks ago I go to the dentist and have an immediate reaction to Septocaine which contains epinephrine which has Sulfites in it, grrrr. Do I need a medical alert bracelet or necklace?
Avatar f tn However, a large swelling may require an adjustment of the immunotherapy dosage or a change in the frequency and amount of the shots. It is also important that anaphylaxis, which can be life threatening, is prevented. It is best that you inform and see your doctor for proper evaluation. Take care and do keep us posted.

Avatar n tn if your looking to loose weight, lol. It seems there are a lot of people who have anaphylaxis, but actually have never had a severe reaction. I've read its rare to go into anaphylactic shock. I always wanted to be rare......but this is extreme. I finally have my allergist appointment on Wednesday. I know he wants me to bring in a clam with me to test me with it. I don't believe I am going to allow him to test my skin with it, but maybe allow him to take blood and test that.
Avatar f tn In addition to the vomiting and diarrhea she would have had very pale gums, her pulse would have been very weak and her heart rate would have been very rapid. Normally the antidote for anaphylaxis is an injection of epinephrine, which should be administered preferrably within a few minutes of her having the reaction. What type of vaccination(s) did she receive?
Avatar f tn I had to get stitches last night, and was given 5-6 shots of epinephrine and lidocane. I told the intake nurse I was taking synthroid (which I presume implies thyroid problems). I felt a little "unusual" afterward (pounding heart, feeling calm and detached..), and was googling the side effects of the shot.. an article said this: "Additionally, epinephrine and lidocaine usually aren’t used in patients with thyroid disease, or disease of the kidneys or liver.
