Avatar m tn I need to clarify my earlier post. Exercise does burn energy, and eventually exercise lowers blood glucose. When I mentioned "cardio level aerobic exercises" I meant this to be "rigorous" exercises. For example cardio aerobic, fast treadmill workouts, or even continuous pumping of weights. In a way, your liver "has a mind of its own" and continues to produce glucose while you exercise.
Avatar m tn I believe that the benefits pf statins outweigh the risks and have altered my eating lifestyle so to nearly exclude carbohydrates. This has enabled me to continue statin regime while keeping my fasting blood glucose levels at acceptaptable unmedicated levels. My wife on the other hand continues to take Metformin while on the statin drug.
770296 tn?1244385841 They help transmit nerve impulses in the brain, increase glucose and fatty acid release for energy, dilate bronchioles, and dilate the pupils. Norepinephrine also constricts blood vessels, increasing blood pressure, and epinephrine increases heart rate and metabolism. After completing their actions, the hormones are metabolized to inactive compounds.
Avatar m tn What you are experiencing is called Dawn Phenomenon and is quite normal in humans. During the night while sleeping your liver stores glucose [blood sugar] then releases glucose in anticipation of the energy needed upon awakening. To help prevent DP one can stop eating/snacking 2-3 hours b4 bedtime and also reduce carb intake at nightly meals. If you have the urge to munch, munch on something like nuts, or wheat/fiber crackers, or something that will not raise your glucose levels.
Avatar f tn I had impaired glucose tolerance due to hyperthyroidism. From the list below - thyrotoxicosis aka too much thyroid hormone. Excerpt from Dr Kaslow's article General lab values..
878888 tn?1319634044 My A1C home test from bayer came back 7.3 and so have been taking blood sugars both fasting and 2 hrs post prandial after supper. My checks are all over the place, highest post prandial was 178 and highest fasting blood sugar 146. Have started exercise and eating 1800 calories a day. Go to doctor tommorrow to get lab results. Wondering if itching dry skin all over and brain fog could be from bs levels or thyroid (controlled). According to my meter 7 day average bs is 143.
863754 tn?1239144755 My aunt is in the hospital, as I type this, fighting to stay alive. After speaking with the doctors about her condition, I've discovered that they have absolutely no idea why she's dying. I'm posting here in the hopes of saving her life. For some reason, her blood glucose levels won't stabilize. They'll give her a shot of glucose to get her levels up, but in the matter of a few hours, it's back down to around 50 or 60 and they have to give her another shot.
Avatar n tn I am mildly diabetic and have recently started controlling my blood sugar through diet and excercise. I monitor my blood sugar several times a day. I seem to suffer tachycardia when my blood sugar falls below 5.5 or 100mg/dl. My heart beat will race at 150 bpm and can stay there for hours. I feel no ill effects except mild trembling and shakiness. At the end of the episode, the rate can drop back to 80 bpm over a period of less than a minute.
Avatar f tn So far I always got eye drops without epinephrine/or something equal to epinephrine, but this last eye doctor did not want to use any drops at all. He examined my eyes without dialating them.
Avatar n tn I had a 2nd trimester miscarriage the day that I had a mole removed at my dermatologist. They used Epinephrine and Xylocaine and when we received the autopsy report it revealed that my baby was perfectly normal and healthy without chromosonal issues prior to him dieing in my womb that day. Has anyone experienced this or known anyone who has? I researched on the web and found many warnings about pregnant women receiving Lidocaine from the dentist but not what they gave me.
Avatar m tn Hi, It is a serotonin and nor epinephrine reuptake inhibitor. The name of the neurotransmitter is nor epinephrine it is different from epinephrine. Most of the side effects occur during the period when one is taking the medication. But the important thing to remember is to follow the doctors instructions carefully. 4703993 tn?1379768388 They may want to do some tests on the vessels that circulate blood to your head to see if there could be an issue there. Apparently the issue may also be related to epinephrine/norepinephrine balances (catecholamines): I found this tidbit in a journal abstract that you may want to show your doc: "Patients with syncope while supine also had sympathoadrenal imbalance before loss of consciousness.
Avatar f tn I kept telling my doctor I felt like I was heading towards menopause. The blood test always came back normal. Even up to a few months before my last period, I was sure menopause was just around the corner. The blood test said everything was normal. Sure enough, a few months after my annual exam, I had my final period. Everything has mellowed out and I feel wonderful. It's been over 3 years and I'm happy to be done with it all.
Avatar f tn Can anyone here tell me if ms has any effect on either of the hormones epinephrine or norepinephrine?
Avatar m tn My wife had seizure about 1 minute after her dentist injected her with lidocaine and epinephrine. The seizure lasted for about 1-2 minutes, her by blood pressure dropped to 90/55. She was very pale. What's interesting is that my wife is epileptic, but 18 months ago she was prescribed lamictal daily. Herr seizures stopped. This lidocaine induced seizure was the first in 18months.
Avatar f tn Your wife needs to be seen by a doctor as soon as possible. Epinephrine can cause increase in heart rate and blood pressure. With the symptoms of slurred speech and impaired memory I would go sooner rather than later.
Avatar f tn I had to get stitches last night, and was given 5-6 shots of epinephrine and lidocane. I told the intake nurse I was taking synthroid (which I presume implies thyroid problems). I felt a little "unusual" afterward (pounding heart, feeling calm and detached..), and was googling the side effects of the shot.. an article said this: "Additionally, epinephrine and lidocaine usually aren’t used in patients with thyroid disease, or disease of the kidneys or liver.
Avatar f tn Hi all. I have been dealing with an exhaustion issue for several months now with no improvement and no reasons found. My symptoms strongly correlate to hypothyroidism. To the point my doctor was sure my FreeT4 and TSH would come back showing something abnormal. Problem is...they were PERFECT. I did have a thyroid ultrasound done and nodules were found, but per the doc were too small, had clean margins, and didn't look suspicious to warrant FNA. Pending test is for Hashimotos...

Avatar f tn It makes a lot of sense to question whether to wait until he's done the test before taking a medication that blocks the action of epinephrine (metanephrine is the inactive metabolite of epinephrine, I believe what's left after the epinephrine is spent, and normetanephrine, the inactive metabolite of norepinephrine, which they also measure).

Consumption of foods with a low glucose levels appears to reduce postprandial glucose rise and improve glycemic control. Reduced calorie and nonnutritive sweeteners(better avoided in epileptics) are useful.
