Epinephrine and tachycardia

Common Questions and Answers about Epinephrine and tachycardia

epipen

Avatar f tn Certain endocrine disorders such as pheochromocytoma can also cause epinephrine release and can result in tachycardia independent nervous system stimulation. Hyperthyroidism can also cause tachycardia.
1399363 tn?1462342610 i have been experiancing tachycardia and palpitation for years for unknown reason (doctors still couldnt find it but it's not psychologycal problem) and on beta-blocker. I just got root cannal treatment for 1 teeth last week for the 1 day. The doctor killed the nerve(thats what they told me) temporary filled it and sent me home. Yesterday i went back there and the doctor said they clean up my root cannal and pull out the nerve, filled it and sent me home.
Avatar m tn 10 and 155lbs. I was very active several years ago and raced motocross for years. I went to my family doctor and she check my thyroid. Those results came back good. So I asked her to check my epinephrine levels because it almost seems like i have too much adrenaline. Those results cam back slightly high so she referred me to an endocrinologist. She also put me on 50mg of metoprolol (beta blocker).
Avatar f tn s the epinephrine that is in the lidocaine. You can ask your dentist to use an anesthetic without epinephrine, I have had tons of dental work and always ask for that. Dentist doesn't mind at all and I've never had any problems. It doesn't last as long but if you start to feel anything while they are working the dentist will just give you more. I have done fine with it.
Avatar f tn Have you had your thyroid and those adrenal hormones: epinephrine, norepinephrine, metanephrine and normetanephrine levels checked? Do you have any additional symptoms that you think might be unrelated to menopause, such as shortness of breath with exertion?
Avatar n tn Mnay times I do have a racing heart and a rate of 120-160 BPM is common. They are also very hard and forceful beats and a bit scary. As soon as I take in some sugar (I have some glucose tablets but if they are not handy I drink a sugared soda or juice) I feel better in a few minutes though I sometimes have some fatigue and a headache after.
Avatar f tn There are local anesthetic formulations available without epinephrine, they just last for shorter periods of time and may require higher doses for efficacy. My experience has been that this means needing to get more injections during dental work than would have been necessary with a "normal" local anesthetic that has epinephrine.
Avatar n tn I have Wolff Parkinsons White Syndrome and you need to have your Dr and Cardiologist clear you for the tooth extractions because extractions cause Heart Arrythimias. I had to wait for my Cardiologist to clear me and send a written information before anywork gets doen on my mouth.
Avatar n tn The amount is so small that I have never heard of it causing tachycardia, although this is theoretically possible. Lidocaine and epinephrine is used in the suturing of millions of wounds every year with no cardiac events. My guess is that that is a coincidence here. The temporary fast heart rate in the absence of chest pain, pressure or other symptoms should have no long-lasting effects whatsoever. An EKG will verify that because tissue death is reflected in an abnormal ST segment.
Avatar n tn For the first time in 37 years, two weeks ago when I received regular dental anesthetic my heart raced and I started having palpitations. It passed of course in a few minutes and when I went in yesterday for a root canal I asked for the anesthetic without epi. The first shot was fine, but the second injection sill caused my heart to pound hard, my chest felt shallow and made me feel a little panicy. It passed and the 3rd injection did the same.

Avatar f tn Epinephrine is the a hormone and neurotransmiter. It is produced by the adrenal gland an is a "fight-or-flight catecholamine." So is norepinephrine. In biochemistry, the prefix "nor" means that norepinephrine is an analog of epinephrine. They function quite differently in the body. epinephrine is most commonly thought of in terms of t effect on the sympathetic nervous system - increasing heart rate, increasing blood pressure, hyper alertness, etc.
Avatar f tn It is well recognized that alcohol can cause an increase in heart rate, through various mechanisms including vasodilation leading to hypotension and reflex tachycardia, and its diuretic effect. There is also a specific condition which is found in about 30% of East Asians (Japan, China and Korea) called the alcohol flushing response which includes elevated heart rate as well as facial flushing after drinking alcohol. This is caused by an acetaldehyde dehydrogenase (ALDH2) gene polymorphism.
Avatar f tn I wondered if you had taken an herbal supplement called Feverfew. If not, disregard my concern. If you have, I had a doctor tell me that there is a potentially permanent side effect of the blood vessels not constricting like they normally should when a person stands up. Hope that explains it better? Well adrenaline is epinephrine, but I've had that be higher than normal as well as nor-adrenaline/norepinephrine at various times (though haven't had the standing norepinephrine test).
Avatar n tn It tests the inactive metabolites of your catecholamines, epinephrine and norepinephrine (also called adrenaline and noradrenaline). You'll want to do it when your symptoms have been particularly bad, and when you haven't been taking tylenol for 72 hours (tylenol can interfere with assaying the levels, I believe). This type of tumor can potentially have silent periods, where catecholamines would be at normal levels.
Avatar f tn It's the epinephrine in the anesthetic that causes the racing heart, etc. Next time you're at the dentist and you need/want an anesthetic ask for one WITHOUT epinephrine. The medication generally takes a little longer to "kick in" and wears off faster, but your dentist will work with you for maximum comfort.
Avatar m tn I was using flonase every day a couple of years ago and after a while I stated having brief episodes of tachycardia. I asked my EP if it could be flonase and he said most definitely. Told me not to use it every day, to try backing off to every couple of days and see if that helped. I still use it once in a while but I try not to swallow it, I try to spit it out when it starts running down my throat.
383138 tn?1314167773 I'm also very interested to know and kiseki has a point it may have been lidocaine mixed with epinephrine. I too had similar experiences at the dentist and in the er be sure to stay away from any adrenergic agonists and make sure to refuse Robinul or glycopyrrolate which is also used for pain which will also make your heart race and go into arrhythmia as well.
Avatar f tn m wondering is ther gonna be permement damage done I scheduled to see cardio at the VA In Pittsburgh. As I just had stress test month and a half ago And was negative. Had it done because started exercising again after 10 year layoff. Now I'm scared to no end.
20794198 tn?1534529493 i layed down on the floor, dialed 999 and was telling myself this MUST be ventricular tachycardia, to happen this fast and make me this dizzy. it lasted all in all around 40 seconds or so and then my heart rate started dropping quickly, within a minute or so, i felt a normal slightly elevated heart rate, and was left severely dizzy and tired. i had a ecg 4 hours later at hospital and it showed nothing what so ever concerning.
Avatar f tn I have severe "white coat hypertension" which causes my BP to rise very high when going to the doctor. A Dentist told me a long time ago to always tell the dentist to give me a shot WITHOUT epinephrine. In the meantime I got on BP meds which controls my BP but when going to the doctor it still goes up, but not as bad as in the past.
1817071 tn?1366228243 I have had a ton of dental work done and I remind my dentist every time no epinephrine. Also something to be aware of...if you have a tooth crowned when they are doing the crown prep they use a string coated in epinephrine to retract your gum prior to making the impressions. It is equivalent to about 3 shots with epi. They have string that does not have the epinephrine so be sure to remember to ask if you are having a tooth crowned.
Avatar f tn I had to get stitches last night, and was given 5-6 shots of epinephrine and lidocane. I told the intake nurse I was taking synthroid (which I presume implies thyroid problems). I felt a little "unusual" afterward (pounding heart, feeling calm and detached..), and was googling the side effects of the shot.. an article said this: "Additionally, epinephrine and lidocaine usually aren’t used in patients with thyroid disease, or disease of the kidneys or liver.
