Epinephrine and pain

Common Questions and Answers about Epinephrine and pain

epipen

Avatar f tn Epinephrine is the a hormone and neurotransmiter. It is produced by the adrenal gland an is a "fight-or-flight catecholamine." So is norepinephrine. In biochemistry, the prefix "nor" means that norepinephrine is an analog of epinephrine. They function quite differently in the body. epinephrine is most commonly thought of in terms of t effect on the sympathetic nervous system - increasing heart rate, increasing blood pressure, hyper alertness, etc.
Avatar f tn The dentist prescribed Halcyon (which I took 1 hour before the appointment) saying it will relax me and make numbing easier and the non-epinephrine local anesthetic last longer. He gave me 2 shots of local on each side. Afterwards, I felt slight pain at one of the injection places, no pain anywhere else. The next day, my face was swollen, and I still had just the slight pain from one of the injections. The swelling was just of the skin of my face, not inside my mouth, not on my lips.
Avatar n tn I have one coming up on an upper back molar. The tooth is dead and yesterday started giving me extreme pain. I just got back from the dentist now with pain killers and a root canal appt. I feel awful. I put off having this root canal due to my fear of the procedure. I am NOT afraid of the pain...whatever, that will pass. I am terrified of dying during the root canal! This may sound silly but I am genuinely afraid that...
Avatar f tn It's the epinephrine in the anesthetic that causes the racing heart, etc. Next time you're at the dentist and you need/want an anesthetic ask for one WITHOUT epinephrine. The medication generally takes a little longer to "kick in" and wears off faster, but your dentist will work with you for maximum comfort.
Avatar m tn Hi, It is a serotonin and nor epinephrine reuptake inhibitor. The name of the neurotransmitter is nor epinephrine it is different from epinephrine. Most of the side effects occur during the period when one is taking the medication. But the important thing to remember is to follow the doctors instructions carefully. To reduce the incidence of side effects it is always started with a low dose and then it is gradually increased.
Avatar n tn My wife got her tooth extracted 10 days ago. After surgery, she feel pain and the face swollen a lot. 3 days later, the swollen began to reduce and pain dispeared. Other things seems normal, except her face still a little bit puffy. We went to see Dentist again, He did not do anything except gave my wife another dose of antibody. Is this normal for tooth extraction?
Avatar n tn I have a mitral valve prolapse and an atrial misfire. I was recently stung by a yellow jacket and had a bad reaction to the sting. My symptoms from the sting were/are: difficulty breathing (feeling like my throat was closing), tongue feeling numb from the middle to the back of the tongue, immediate severe pain at the site w/swelling and itchiness.
Avatar m tn In a simple dental procedure, I had what I can only describe as a seizure after getting what was supposed to be lidocaine and epinephrine injection. The area never got numb, and the pain from the point of the needle each time they attempted to inject me was painful. I was taken to the ER and released after 8 hours with no explanation. I read that lidocaine can cause a seizure. I have had injections many times with no problem. What could have gone wrong?
Avatar m tn Especially epinephrien. I have asthma and took primatene mist which is bad for people with asthma and it has epinephrine in it. I did abuse this medicine and I think maybe it caused some of the problems I have.
1817071 tn?1366228243 I have had a ton of dental work done and I remind my dentist every time no epinephrine. Also something to be aware of...if you have a tooth crowned when they are doing the crown prep they use a string coated in epinephrine to retract your gum prior to making the impressions. It is equivalent to about 3 shots with epi. They have string that does not have the epinephrine so be sure to remember to ask if you are having a tooth crowned.
Avatar f tn I had to get stitches last night, and was given 5-6 shots of epinephrine and lidocane. I told the intake nurse I was taking synthroid (which I presume implies thyroid problems). I felt a little "unusual" afterward (pounding heart, feeling calm and detached..), and was googling the side effects of the shot.. an article said this: "Additionally, epinephrine and lidocaine usually aren’t used in patients with thyroid disease, or disease of the kidneys or liver.
Avatar m tn In heat or exertion he gets a rash on his upper body and has alot of pain although it is internal pain and not really on the skin. He has been to numerous doctors and some claim it is because he has extremely dry skin and so they have him on some medication but with no result. He has also been to an allergist and neurologist but they can't find anything. Please let me know if anyone has heard of this.
Avatar f tn s left after the epinephrine is spent, and normetanephrine, the inactive metabolite of norepinephrine, which they also measure). But it sounds like from what you are saying that it doesn't block the emission of epinephrine, just the action it takes- I'd suggest if you don't hear quickly from your doctor you consult a knowledgeable pharmacist for their opinion.
Avatar n tn I had a 2nd trimester miscarriage the day that I had a mole removed at my dermatologist. They used Epinephrine and Xylocaine and when we received the autopsy report it revealed that my baby was perfectly normal and healthy without chromosonal issues prior to him dieing in my womb that day. Has anyone experienced this or known anyone who has? I researched on the web and found many warnings about pregnant women receiving Lidocaine from the dentist but not what they gave me.
Avatar f tn Involved is the sympathetic nervous system that prepares the body for action...oftened referred to as the "fight or flight" response to a stressful situation. And it quickly does the following and heart rate is only one factor: Increases strength of skeletal muscles Decreases blood clotting time Increases heart rate Increases sugar and fat levels Reduces intestinal movement Inhibits tears, digestive secretions.
Avatar f tn So far I always got eye drops without epinephrine/or something equal to epinephrine, but this last eye doctor did not want to use any drops at all. He examined my eyes without dialating them.
Avatar f tn s the epinephrine that is in the lidocaine. You can ask your dentist to use an anesthetic without epinephrine, I have had tons of dental work and always ask for that. Dentist doesn't mind at all and I've never had any problems. It doesn't last as long but if you start to feel anything while they are working the dentist will just give you more. I have done fine with it.
Avatar f tn I have severe "white coat hypertension" which causes my BP to rise very high when going to the doctor. A Dentist told me a long time ago to always tell the dentist to give me a shot WITHOUT epinephrine. In the meantime I got on BP meds which controls my BP but when going to the doctor it still goes up, but not as bad as in the past.
770296 tn?1244385841 Dopamine becomes homovanillic acid (HVA), norepinephrine breaks down into normetanephrine and vanillylmandelic acid (VMA), and epinephrine becomes metanephrine and VMA. Both the hormones and their metabolites are excreted in the urine. Normally, catecholamines and their metabolites are present in the body in small, fluctuating amounts that only increase appreciably during and shortly after a bout of stress.
787406 tn?1339203183 I am having so many symptoms right now, heat intolerance,sweats,night sweats,blurred vision,diarrhea,frequent bowel movements,low blood pressure,abdominal pain,headaches,weightloss,side and back pain,clammy skin,feet bone pain,hair loss,chest pain, and a boil.
Avatar n tn I think the lido/epi went into my bloodstream and that's why things have been so bad. My throat and ear hurt a lot too. Nerve pain, etc. I had headache for three days but that has gotten better. Just can't go to another dentist until I know what happened and if I'm allergic (react badly) to certain meds. As for now, trying to keep the abscess on #4 down with oregano oil, hydrogen peroxide, etc. I hate my teeth. And I actually do take care of them, though you'd never know.
Avatar f tn There are local anesthetic formulations available without epinephrine, they just last for shorter periods of time and may require higher doses for efficacy. My experience has been that this means needing to get more injections during dental work than would have been necessary with a "normal" local anesthetic that has epinephrine.
16361457 tn?1449652821 I should mention I have major head and neck pain and issues from previous whiplash and some very bad falls and concussions. It is uncomfortable for me to get dental work in general. Back to your question-- it is always best to preserve your tooth if you can. Do they suggest a root canal with a filling or a crown? Yes-- you need to get the infection cleared up soon. Left untreated-- it can lead to other bad health conditions-- including loss of bone in the jaw.
Avatar f tn And there was no pain with the cleaning
Avatar n tn both WITHOUT EPINEPHRINE,YES,WITHOUT EPINEPHRINE and I made sure of that before the skin test. They had to discontinue the Lidocaine because of heart side effects. But they finished with the other one and they thought that everything was fine and sent me home..The next day,BOOM! they hit with a vengence..P.V.C.S over and over again lasting for 3 weeks or so until they finally tapered off.
4703993 tn?1379768388 2 nmol/L) and epinephrine (0.29 ± 0.09 nmol/L) were normal (1.3 ± 0.1 nmol/L in 77 normal volunteers and 0.34 ± 0.03 nmol/L in 45 normal volunteers). During spontaneous loss of consciousness, all 4 patients had an increase in plasma epinephrine levels (mean 3.8 times baseline), and no change or a decrease in plasma norepinephrine levels (mean 0.86 times baseline), so that the plasma epinephrine:norepinephrine ratio increased substantially (5.3 times baseline).
Avatar m tn 10 and 155lbs. I was very active several years ago and raced motocross for years. I went to my family doctor and she check my thyroid. Those results came back good. So I asked her to check my epinephrine levels because it almost seems like i have too much adrenaline. Those results cam back slightly high so she referred me to an endocrinologist. She also put me on 50mg of metoprolol (beta blocker).
