Avatar n tn Hi, Mastocytosis is a disease characterized by the presence of too many mast cells in various organs and tissues.Mast cells are found primarily in the skin and digestive system, including the liver and spleen, and produce histamine, a chemical most famous for its ability to cause itching. Mastocytosis comes in three forms. Most cases produce symptoms but do not shorten life expectancy. The three forms are: Mastocytoma, a benign skin tumor.
Avatar n tn Diagnosed in 2019 and still in watch and wait mode. Itching in head and also on my stomach and back is increasing. Night sweats are intermittent. WBC increasing steadily. Any advice other than antihistamines to relieve the itching associated with CLL?
Avatar n tn I have been sick for the past 2 years. I have been diagnosed with POTS, but also had other symptoms that my POTS drs didn't feel was related. After extensive testing, I went to Brigham and Women's in Boston to see Mast Cell drs and have been diagnosed with mast cell activation disorder. I too am on treatment for it now. It has not exacerbated my POTS if anything it has made me feel a bit better. I am not great, but definitely better then when this whole thing started.
Avatar n tn “Good Estrogens” (2-hydroxy) help maintain healthy levels of the catecholamine hormones (epinephrine and nor-epinephrine) that specifically stimulate enzymes in fat cells to release stored fat for energy.11 When given over a period of months in animal studies, 2-hydroxy estrogen prevented obesity and the Metabolic Syndrome. Research with absorbable DIM has shown that supplementation before exercise results in greater lipolysis in the hours following exercise.
Avatar f tn Your pain could be from alcohol causing vasodilation which further enlarges already swollen nodes, Maybe a node of yours presses on a nerve. Is the pain in the node or does it only radiate downward? I saw your posts from last year.Has any doctor ever mentioned "mast cells" to you? Mast cells line the GI tract and also the airways. Maybe your mast cells are over reactive. Can you draw a line on your sternum with your fingernail? Do you ever get random overall flushing?
Avatar n tn The pathology report showed it was a grade 2 mast cell tumor with mast cells in the dermis and superficial subcutis. There was mild nuclear pleomorphism and the mitotic index is low less than 1 per 40X high power fields.Sclerious and eosinophilic inflammation are also present. The overlying epidermis is hyperplastic and elevated. The above surgical margins are clean and there was no evidence of angiolymphatic invasion. What are the chances of the mast cell tumor metastasising?
Avatar f tn Substance P triggers mast cells, and fibro patients have more substance p. The same is true for CRH/corticoid releasing hormone. And some meds trigger mast cells to over react. Diagnosis is key tho. I would not assume a mast cell problem, as if it's not your problem, you don't want to inhibit mast cell activity. They are vital immune cells. But sometimes they run amuck, over reacting and/or over proliferating.
Avatar n tn IgE antibodies are usually found on the surface of special immune cells known as mast cells that occur in tissues throughout the body. If the molecules on the surface of a mast cell bind to their specific antigen they stimulate the mast cell to release several chemical messengers. The normal purpose of these chemicals is to organise a more effective immune response, but in sufficient quantities they can produce the damaging symptoms of allergy.
Avatar m tn The major criterion for diagnosis is multiple dense infiltrates of mast cells observed in bone marrow biopsy specimens and mast cells stained for tryptase in biopsy specimens from other organs including her skeletal tissue. You should go for a biopsy for confirmation and this can also be a tumour of her hip bone without mastocytocis Take care!
1092972 tn?1263047508 it is a disease of too many mast cells (causing allergic reactions) and/ or mast cells that are irregular and release too much histamine into the body. in any case, might be worth checking it out or mentioning it to your doctors. i know there is a blood test they can do for your tryptase levels to see if they are abnormal - if so, they may proceed to other testing to confirm diagnosis. it might be a shot in the dark, but you never know. i wish you all the best. stay courageous.
Avatar f tn The digestive tract, skin, and lungs are lined with immune cells called mast cells. Mast cells secrete over 200 biochemicals that control other cells. It's very complicated and not easy to diagnose. Many sufferers see several docs over several years in frustration. "headaches, inability to concentrate, difficulty focusing my eyes" Those as well as the fatigue, can be downstream effects of immune chemicals such as histamine and prostaglandins.
Avatar f tn Some of those symptoms sound like a food (or medication) allergy. Exercise can set off mast cells in some people, and mast cells release histamine. If you are taking any herbals I'd quit those - for starters. As for the pain and heartburn, that needs to be addressed by a competent doctor. I don't know how old you are, but....Heartburn can be angina!
Avatar f tn The beginning treatment as described by Afrin and other doctors in their talks is an H1 blocker, an H2 blocker and a mast cell stabilizer such as quercetin (which helps to keep the mast cells from getting set off too easily).
Avatar f tn -increased mast cell degranulation - release of granules rich in histamine and other compounds into the body by mast cells, a special type of cell that plays a role in the immune system -increased circulating histamine" You have multiple food sensitivities, which would involve mast cells . So all of your conditions are possibly linked. Unfortunately, though, mast cell diseases are not widely known in the medical community yet. So the person you talk to at your appt might not be aware.
Avatar m tn Certain factors can trigger the release of histamine and the other chemicals from mast cells and this includes drugs (especially aspirin and other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, codeine and morphine, and some anaesthetics), alcohol, emotional stress, physical stimuli (heat, exercise and friction), bacterial toxins and insect venom. Liposuction is a physical stimulus and can trigger histamine release.
Avatar m tn Allergic reactions are mediated by IgE antibodies, which are released on exposure to a particular allergen. These in turn activate mast cells and lead to a local response or systemic anaphylaxis. So, antihistamines might help, but sometimes the allergic reaction depends on the quantity also. So it's best to avoid those foods.
Avatar n tn i actually just watched a show on the health chanel about a little boy who had the same type of problem as what u explained and it turned out it was a disease called mastocytosis which is when the body has too many mast cells. mast cells help you fight off infections or if you are allergic to any foods they can attack the same way. if there are too many mast cells they over produce the histamine and cause the vomiting and diarrhea.
Avatar f tn My 11.5 year old Yorkshire Terrier had 3 mast cell tumors (all Grade 2) removed in late April. One of the mast cell tumors was on her front right ankle therefore it could not be completely excised and radiation is being recommended for that area. The other two tumors were removed with clean margins (so no further treatment recommended for those areas). The report reads for the ankle specimen that "individual and clusters of 2-3 mast cells extend to the deep section margin....
Avatar f tn It is characterized by excessive activation of certain white blood cells called mast cells and basophils by a type of antibody known as IgE, resulting in an extreme inflammatory response.
3986919 tn?1352125983 I just have the tryptase which definitely means my Mast cells are NOT happy and doing something they are not supposed to be doing! When you, like me, fall outside the box you have to go to a Mast Cell Specialist...I guess like an MS specialist! lol So here I am outside 2 boxes!! MS and Mast Cell ....which one is it?? both? none? :/ Why does my body have to be so difficult!!??? I am functionally disabled yet the docs can't figure out what is causing the most serious symptoms.
Avatar f tn I was just recently diagnosed with mast cell activation disorder I am getting a bone marrow bx next week, I have been put on antihistamines for now I think all of us POTS patients need to be ter ested for this I had a skin bx and they found an increased number of mast cells in my skin and then an increase in my histamine level and three other increases in my blood that show mast cell activation disorder for now I do not know yet if I have the systemic type until I get the bone marrow.
Avatar f tn 11 years ago- colonoscopy: found nothing, declared diarrhea to be due to ibs. Eliminated triggers: dairy, caffiene, high fat. For years- saving grace was carbs. BUT I still had bouts of diarrhea and was never really normal. (Note: stomach was always flat, unless I overate and bm would quickly shrink back stomach). December 2009- bad abdominal pains: ultrasounds found a bunch of cysts but my doc. said they are not large enough to be causing pain. Weight: 128. (Note: highest in 15 years.
