Epinephrine and high blood pressure

Common Questions and Answers about Epinephrine and high blood pressure

Avatar m tn Or is it possible to have plain and simple high blood pressure at my age and weight? Can high blood pressure cause a fast heart rate? My doctors I noticed did not check my lipid profile.
Avatar f tn Epinephrine is the a hormone and neurotransmiter. It is produced by the adrenal gland an is a "fight-or-flight catecholamine." So is norepinephrine. In biochemistry, the prefix "nor" means that norepinephrine is an analog of epinephrine. They function quite differently in the body. epinephrine is most commonly thought of in terms of t effect on the sympathetic nervous system - increasing heart rate, increasing blood pressure, hyper alertness, etc.
787406 tn?1339203183 Norepinephrine is responsible for making sure your blood pressure doesn't go too low. My own level was more moderately elevated in the past, but it is not believed I have a pheo but I believe it is owing to my postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome, as I think (not dr. verified) I had the hyperadrenergic form. Stress, if the doctor means anxiety stress, would surely effect your EPINEPHRINE level- how is that one?
Avatar n tn Atenolol is beta blocker and used to treat high blood pressure, and can also be used to prevent angina pectoris....chest pain due to lack of blood flow to an area of the heart because of occluded vessels. The mechanism for the treatment is to relax blood vessels and maintain a stable heart rate. Many individuals and that includes myself take an ACE inhibitor (lisinopril) and beta blocker (coreg), and nitrate as needed for chest pain. If atenolol prevents angina, then it is beneficial for you.
770296 tn?1244385841 They help transmit nerve impulses in the brain, increase glucose and fatty acid release for energy, dilate bronchioles, and dilate the pupils. Norepinephrine also constricts blood vessels, increasing blood pressure, and epinephrine increases heart rate and metabolism. After completing their actions, the hormones are metabolized to inactive compounds.
Avatar m tn Hey man, I'm a 1st year med student so if anything i say conflicts with a doctor, they are probly right and not me. That said my dad has high blood pressure so i've researched it as much as i can. The metoprolol is a blocker of epinephrine(or epi for short, this is the same thing as adrenalin). Epi makes you're heart beat faster and harder, so that drug is only effective in stopping your body from raising your heart rate more than its baseline.
Avatar f tn Even so, I would just play it safe for regular exams and just get tropicamide which should not affect blood pressure or pulse.
Avatar m tn My wife had seizure about 1 minute after her dentist injected her with lidocaine and epinephrine. The seizure lasted for about 1-2 minutes, her by blood pressure dropped to 90/55. She was very pale. What's interesting is that my wife is epileptic, but 18 months ago she was prescribed lamictal daily. Herr seizures stopped. This lidocaine induced seizure was the first in 18months.
787406 tn?1339203183 I am having so many symptoms right now, heat intolerance,sweats,night sweats,blurred vision,diarrhea,frequent bowel movements,low blood pressure,abdominal pain,headaches,weightloss,side and back pain,clammy skin,feet bone pain,hair loss,chest pain, and a boil.
Avatar f tn After my one hour spinning class, my eyes are very bloodshot. Could it be high blood pressure? My eye exam last month was normal. Should I be worried?
4703993 tn?1379768388 In 1 patient who had blood sampled repeatedly, as called for in the protocol, arterial plasma epinephrine levels began to increase and norepinephrine to decrease about 3 to 4 minutes before onset of mild hypotension (Figure 3). After about 8 minutes, blood pressure and plasma norepinephrine reached a nadir, plasma epinephrine peaked, and the patient became symptomatic.
Avatar m tn Hi, It is a serotonin and nor epinephrine reuptake inhibitor. The name of the neurotransmitter is nor epinephrine it is different from epinephrine. Most of the side effects occur during the period when one is taking the medication. But the important thing to remember is to follow the doctors instructions carefully. To reduce the incidence of side effects it is always started with a low dose and then it is gradually increased.
Avatar f tn Doctors were no help at first, then I was medicated with a Beta blocker for an entirely different problem (blood pressure and heart rate issues) and wow.....the anxiety attacks calmed almost immediately, MD said it was being caused by the beta blocker slowing the "flight or fight" response coming with the anxiety attack, slowing the a"push" and responding with the nor epinephrine faster....slowing the heart rate, lowering the BP, etc.
Avatar f tn Had 2 fillings today. Have a history of palpitations and high blood pressure at just 23 years old. After he gave me the local I started to shake and my heart started really racing. More than anxiety alone could cause. He claims it was near a vein and has adrenaline in so can cause that. I'm starting t wonder if he just missed? With my medical history it really scared me and has never happened before!

Avatar m tn This usually is caused by high blood pressure, where the heart slows down to lower your blood pressure. If you are hypotensive this probably isn't the case with you.
419964 tn?1333301906 im almost 20 weeks, the last couple days ive been having really bad pain in my mouth from two seperate teeth,i cant sleep at night it keeps me awake is it safe to go to the dentists or should i wait till after the babys born??? Avatar f tn m not feeling well, if I stand up my blood pressure will go from 86/56 (which is my blood pressure lately) to 117/85. Something like that. A few days ago it went up to 127/95 from sitting up on the couch. But I'm sure others will know more about your situation. I don't know much about the POTS. Good luck. I hope you can get some answers.
878888 tn?1319634044 My Blood pressure was 142/93 and so she ordered for me metformin 500 at titrated levels till I am taking full dose in 8 weeks of 2 at breakfast and 2 at dinner. and also lisinopril 10 mgs once a day for blood pressure and to protect kidneys.
171927 tn?1294023723 I have been really sick and in bed since the end of september. i have many symptoms, but one of the most alarming and confusing is this continuous flux in blood pressure readings. i am in the in-between stage of diagnosis at the moment. i can elaborate on test results if anyone is interested. what i wanted to ask is if anyone on this board has had my problem with blood pressure fluctuation.
Avatar n tn Honestly, my blood pressure was TOO low the second time around. They had to give me injections of epinephrine during my labor to bring my blood pressure back up. If you can, invest in a blood pressure machine and take your BP daily at the same time (or even two times a day),after doing to exact same things. Like, maybe first thing in the morning when you wake up and maybe again after a very active part of your day.
Avatar f tn If you think about it, the heart is just a muscle and the harder the work it must do when not healthy, the less effective it will be. For example, if blood pressure is high, a heart must work harder to push blood out. So if a damaged or unhealthy heart is low on output in a patient with high blood pressure, lowering this will improve things. Dilating blood vessels, lowering pressure are just two ways to improve things.
Avatar f tn Also, if you are taking nonselective beta blockers (propranolol, timolol, sotalol, nadolol), adrenaline injections may in some cases cause extremely high blood pressure, bradycardia and irregular breathing (vasopressor response).
915119 tn?1341948989 if your blood pressure is too high it restricts the blood vessels and can stop baby from getting enough blood and oxygen. if it gets extremely high it can cause seizures. are you seeing spots or having blurred vision? I agree with bjbbeauchamp, try nor to stress! and if it goes up any more then go to L&D! its better to be safe than sorry! I have had HORRIBLE swelling in my legs for months now, but no protein in my urine until the other week.
Avatar n tn I am 35 years old and never thought I had HIgh Blood pressure until recently. As I am into my higher studies, when visiting the doctor for a fall, they told me I had high pressure readings of 160/110. My pulse was also high, ( I was diagnosed with tachycardia some years ago which was again put down to stress.) They put it down to anxiety and stress, and gave me atenenol 25 mg. Since then I have developed a fear, and my pulse raises whenever the doctor checks my pressure, and my pressure is high.
