Epinephrine and glucose during activity

Common Questions and Answers about Epinephrine and glucose during activity

epipen

Avatar m tn Some people with diabetes will notice a significantly higher glucose rise directly after more strenuous activity and/or competitive sports; this is because epinephrine (adrenaline) is a hormone released during exercise, stress, excitement, or illness, and its effect is to cause the liver to release even more glucose to supply the body with the needed energy. Usually, this is a temporary effect, and later the blood glucose will go back to its original level. I hope this makes it clearer.
Avatar n tn I believe you asked about HYPOglycemia: The symptoms are vary varied and might include dizziness, feeling generally out of it, fatigue, irritability, disorientation, tingling. Testing is the key as if your numbers have been high for awhile you will feel low even if you're not. You should treat any lows below 60 (some treat below 70) with a couple glucose tablets. You will learn the correct number for you.
Avatar f tn Relaxes the bladder Dilates pupils Increases perspiration Increases mental activity Stress constricts most blood vessels but dilates those in heart/leg/arm muscles and over time can cause cardiovascular problems The main sympathetic neurotransmitter is called noradrenaline which is released a the nerve endings. The stress response also includes the activity of the adrenal, pituitary and thyroid glands.
Avatar m tn Hi Three months ago I went for a checkup and my GP told me that I have high blood sugar when I am fasting and it is within the normal range during the day. I did Oral glucose tolerance test and it was high something like 12 mmol/Lafter 2 hours. The doctor prescribed Glucophage 750 XR one tablet at night and asked me to limit my food intake from high GI food (Glycaemic Index).
770296 tn?1244385841 Dopamine becomes homovanillic acid (HVA), norepinephrine breaks down into normetanephrine and vanillylmandelic acid (VMA), and epinephrine becomes metanephrine and VMA. Both the hormones and their metabolites are excreted in the urine. Normally, catecholamines and their metabolites are present in the body in small, fluctuating amounts that only increase appreciably during and shortly after a bout of stress.
Avatar m tn It's good to see that you are trying to manage your glucose levels b4 they get out of control. An OGTT requires you to be sedentary 2 hours post test. Being active 1 hour post defeated your "homemade" test. See this link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glucose_tolerance_test Q: "What can be the normal glucose level after 3-4 hours lunch or dinner time" A: Glucose peaks 2-3 hours after meals where the normal value is <180 mg/dl and the optimum is <140 mg/dl.
Avatar m tn A lot depends on current health status and associated drugs/medicines currently taken as some drugs cause interactions with other drugs which can raise glucose levels. GIYF - Google Is Your Friend - use it to locate specific drug interactions and/or contraindications.
Avatar n tn Also, exercise takes some glucose out of the body to use for energy during and after exercise which also lowers blood sugars. So instead of suspending, you may want to use a temp basal. Many times the sugar goes up right after exercise due to the glucose being released from the muscles. One might need a temp basal after exercise also. The only way to know is trial and error as each person is different.
Avatar n tn He is absolutely correct that he feels bad when his glucose is doing a sudden drop even before the numbers move out of the normal range, so avoiding any kind of bolus insulin work during games would be very helpful to him. A small sip of Gatorade during the game may not cause glucose levels to rise much if any, and then he can replenish the nutrients he has used by eating a hefty meal AFTER the game.
1510919 tn?1298825067 just giving an update on my bump. :) back pain started kicking in alot more and with me having that extra vertabrae and already in pain its just escalating it lol the rib pain has eased up a bit and im grateful for that!! it does come and go though. she's very active lately and is always moving around saying hello :) next doc app is the 31 of jan. i have the glucose test that day :( ugh.
Avatar n tn I've had my blood sugar checked several times over the past 12 months in relation to my frequent lightheadedness / imbalance. My fasting bloodsugar seems to be around 120-130 usually. I had a glucose tolerance test and it came back "normal". A new doctor just ran an a1c test on me and it came back as 6. I am over weight (not losing weight as I often read about when looking up diabetes). Does above normal blood sugar always mean diabetes?
Avatar n tn I understand about anatomic variations and fully believe this seizure was caused by lidocaine essentially hitting a vein and numbing my girls' brain and not her tooth; BUT, 1)This is apparently a 'rare' event, How often does it occur and does she have an increased (any?)chance of this event happening again? Or the same chance as everybody else? 2) Is she prone to seizures and this event "set her off"? 3) She still needs this lower molar filled, now what? Other drugs?
Avatar f tn Epinephrine is the a hormone and neurotransmiter. It is produced by the adrenal gland an is a "fight-or-flight catecholamine." So is norepinephrine. In biochemistry, the prefix "nor" means that norepinephrine is an analog of epinephrine. They function quite differently in the body. epinephrine is most commonly thought of in terms of t effect on the sympathetic nervous system - increasing heart rate, increasing blood pressure, hyper alertness, etc.
Avatar n tn I had a 2nd trimester miscarriage the day that I had a mole removed at my dermatologist. They used Epinephrine and Xylocaine and when we received the autopsy report it revealed that my baby was perfectly normal and healthy without chromosonal issues prior to him dieing in my womb that day. Has anyone experienced this or known anyone who has? I researched on the web and found many warnings about pregnant women receiving Lidocaine from the dentist but not what they gave me.
Avatar m tn Hi, It is a serotonin and nor epinephrine reuptake inhibitor. The name of the neurotransmitter is nor epinephrine it is different from epinephrine. Most of the side effects occur during the period when one is taking the medication. But the important thing to remember is to follow the doctors instructions carefully. To reduce the incidence of side effects it is always started with a low dose and then it is gradually increased.

1817071 tn?1366228243 I have had a ton of dental work done and I remind my dentist every time no epinephrine. Also something to be aware of...if you have a tooth crowned when they are doing the crown prep they use a string coated in epinephrine to retract your gum prior to making the impressions. It is equivalent to about 3 shots with epi. They have string that does not have the epinephrine so be sure to remember to ask if you are having a tooth crowned.
Avatar m tn feeling like post-naasal drip. Over time, it gets worse, and feels like a pinching or swelling around my larynx, sometimes migrating up as a pain under my jaw or near my ears. It usually fades away sometime in the afternoon. The strangest thing is that I can't correlate it to any environment, food,, or activity. I've traveled from my home on the west coast to the South, and to the East Coast, but I experienced it both places.
Avatar f tn The dentist prescribed Halcyon (which I took 1 hour before the appointment) saying it will relax me and make numbing easier and the non-epinephrine local anesthetic last longer. He gave me 2 shots of local on each side. Afterwards, I felt slight pain at one of the injection places, no pain anywhere else. The next day, my face was swollen, and I still had just the slight pain from one of the injections. The swelling was just of the skin of my face, not inside my mouth, not on my lips.
Avatar f tn It's the epinephrine in the anesthetic that causes the racing heart, etc. Next time you're at the dentist and you need/want an anesthetic ask for one WITHOUT epinephrine. The medication generally takes a little longer to "kick in" and wears off faster, but your dentist will work with you for maximum comfort.
Avatar m tn Fortunately, we have good ways of dealing with IFIS, such as intraocular epinephrine, viscoelastics, and the Malyugin Ring pupil expander. A sign of potential trouble is if the pupil doesn't dilate well in the office; this frequently indicates a more severe IFIS problem will be encountered at surgery.
Avatar m tn my morning fasting glucose reading was high. Could my activity yesterday and my muscle soreness this morning cause a spike in my glucose reading?
