Common Questions and Answers about Epinephrine and blood sugar

epipen

Avatar n tn I take Metformin 1000 mg twice a day and Glyburide 5 mg in the AM and 2.5 in the PM. Sometimes the Glyburide lowers my blood sugar too much particularly if I don't eat something a few hours after taking my meds. As you mention my blood sugar will only be in the 80-90 range and I start to experience hypoglycemic symptoms. Fatique, palpitations, sweating, shaking, feeling of dread...just a general awful feeling. Mnay times I do have a racing heart and a rate of 120-160 BPM is common.
Avatar f tn Epinephrine is the a hormone and neurotransmiter. It is produced by the adrenal gland an is a "fight-or-flight catecholamine." So is norepinephrine. In biochemistry, the prefix "nor" means that norepinephrine is an analog of epinephrine. They function quite differently in the body. epinephrine is most commonly thought of in terms of t effect on the sympathetic nervous system - increasing heart rate, increasing blood pressure, hyper alertness, etc.
Avatar m tn Especially epinephrien. I have asthma and took primatene mist which is bad for people with asthma and it has epinephrine in it. I did abuse this medicine and I think maybe it caused some of the problems I have.
Avatar f tn blocking the action of certain natural chemicals in your body such as ephinephrine on the heart and blood vessels." It also says to consult your doctor before using if you have "..........a certain type of tumor (pheochromocytoma)." Should we ask about waiting to begin this beta-blocker until after the 24-hour urine collection is finished? Will starting it now possible skew the results?
225237 tn?1333138999 Sounds very much like a hypoglycemic episode, it is possible that your hormones as causing a release of circulating epinephrine that increases the half life of insulin causing your blood sugar levels to drop (reactive-hypoglycemia). Try drinking some fruit juice, eating a popsicle, or adding 1-2 tlbs of plain sugar to a glass of water and drinking that when you experience these symptoms.
Avatar m tn I am a 21 year old male that has been experiencing a fast heart rate and high blood pressure. It sometimes gets up to 140/80 then other times its at 125/80. My heart rate usually when resting is 90-110bpm off my medicine. When I wake up from sleeping it is usually 70-80 bpm. I am 5'10 and 155lbs. I was very active several years ago and raced motocross for years. I went to my family doctor and she check my thyroid. Those results came back good.
Avatar f tn Even so, I would just play it safe for regular exams and just get tropicamide which should not affect blood pressure or pulse.
Avatar n tn I had a 2nd trimester miscarriage the day that I had a mole removed at my dermatologist. They used Epinephrine and Xylocaine and when we received the autopsy report it revealed that my baby was perfectly normal and healthy without chromosonal issues prior to him dieing in my womb that day. Has anyone experienced this or known anyone who has? I researched on the web and found many warnings about pregnant women receiving Lidocaine from the dentist but not what they gave me.
Avatar m tn Hi, It is a serotonin and nor epinephrine reuptake inhibitor. The name of the neurotransmitter is nor epinephrine it is different from epinephrine. Most of the side effects occur during the period when one is taking the medication. But the important thing to remember is to follow the doctors instructions carefully. To reduce the incidence of side effects it is always started with a low dose and then it is gradually increased.
Avatar f tn It's the epinephrine in the anesthetic that causes the racing heart, etc. Next time you're at the dentist and you need/want an anesthetic ask for one WITHOUT epinephrine. The medication generally takes a little longer to "kick in" and wears off faster, but your dentist will work with you for maximum comfort.
4703993 tn?1379768388 2 nmol/L) and epinephrine (0.29 ± 0.09 nmol/L) were normal (1.3 ± 0.1 nmol/L in 77 normal volunteers and 0.34 ± 0.03 nmol/L in 45 normal volunteers). During spontaneous loss of consciousness, all 4 patients had an increase in plasma epinephrine levels (mean 3.8 times baseline), and no change or a decrease in plasma norepinephrine levels (mean 0.86 times baseline), so that the plasma epinephrine:norepinephrine ratio increased substantially (5.3 times baseline).
Avatar n tn s nothing left that I can eat....between diabetes and watching blood sugar levels, and taking the blood thinner warfarin because of the a-fib, and a statin ( no grapefruit). For every yay, there's a nay. I was wondering if anyone out there feels like the palps build up over a few days and then they break into an episode of a-fib or some other equally aggraving arrhythmia? After my a-fib is over I feel free for several days, really goood, till the whole cycle starts all over again.
Avatar f tn The dentist prescribed Halcyon (which I took 1 hour before the appointment) saying it will relax me and make numbing easier and the non-epinephrine local anesthetic last longer. He gave me 2 shots of local on each side. Afterwards, I felt slight pain at one of the injection places, no pain anywhere else. The next day, my face was swollen, and I still had just the slight pain from one of the injections. The swelling was just of the skin of my face, not inside my mouth, not on my lips.
Avatar f tn Doctors were no help at first, then I was medicated with a Beta blocker for an entirely different problem (blood pressure and heart rate issues) and wow.....the anxiety attacks calmed almost immediately, MD said it was being caused by the beta blocker slowing the "flight or fight" response coming with the anxiety attack, slowing the a"push" and responding with the nor epinephrine faster....slowing the heart rate, lowering the BP, etc.
878888 tn?1319634044 My checks are all over the place, highest post prandial was 178 and highest fasting blood sugar 146. Have started exercise and eating 1800 calories a day. Go to doctor tommorrow to get lab results. Wondering if itching dry skin all over and brain fog could be from bs levels or thyroid (controlled). According to my meter 7 day average bs is 143.
770296 tn?1244385841 They help transmit nerve impulses in the brain, increase glucose and fatty acid release for energy, dilate bronchioles, and dilate the pupils. Norepinephrine also constricts blood vessels, increasing blood pressure, and epinephrine increases heart rate and metabolism. After completing their actions, the hormones are metabolized to inactive compounds.
Avatar f tn s the epinephrine that is in the lidocaine. You can ask your dentist to use an anesthetic without epinephrine, I have had tons of dental work and always ask for that. Dentist doesn't mind at all and I've never had any problems. It doesn't last as long but if you start to feel anything while they are working the dentist will just give you more. I have done fine with it.
Avatar f tn I will try and find out. Thank you. Also I have a hard time metabolizing medicine. Could AI cause this?
1778927 tn?1381878747 Off and on chest pains but my blood pressure and such are normal. Am I freaking myself out now? Now I think I am having heart attack symptoms that started Saturday evening. Should I go to Urgent Care or ER or something?
Avatar m tn My wife had seizure about 1 minute after her dentist injected her with lidocaine and epinephrine. The seizure lasted for about 1-2 minutes, her by blood pressure dropped to 90/55. She was very pale. What's interesting is that my wife is epileptic, but 18 months ago she was prescribed lamictal daily. Herr seizures stopped. This lidocaine induced seizure was the first in 18months.
1817071 tn?1366228243 I have had a ton of dental work done and I remind my dentist every time no epinephrine. Also something to be aware of...if you have a tooth crowned when they are doing the crown prep they use a string coated in epinephrine to retract your gum prior to making the impressions. It is equivalent to about 3 shots with epi. They have string that does not have the epinephrine so be sure to remember to ask if you are having a tooth crowned.
