Epinephrine and anaphylactic shock

Common Questions and Answers about Epinephrine and anaphylactic shock

epipen

Avatar f tn Hi, welcome to the forum, Epipen delivers a measured dose of epinephrine (also known as adrenaline) using autoinjector technology, most frequently for the treatment of acute allergic reactions to avoid or treat the onset of anaphylactic shock. In certain cases it can be used to stop local bleeding. Epinephrine is known to act on the uterus through beta 2 receptors and can cause relaxation of the uterus. At term, it can prevent the contraction and delay the labor.

Avatar f tn Hello Khalidws, Welcome to the Allergies - Food Community. I see you joined Med help recently. You say both you and your brother have allergies to nuts. I think you mentioned that your brother has allergies to peanuts and that both you and your brother have allergies to almonds. Nut allergies are particularly worrisome. If I were you, I would tell your brother not to eat any amount of peanuts or peanut butter. The problem with allergic reactions is that the reactions can and do get worse.
Avatar n tn Hello I have severe reactions from insect stings especially bee stings. Its so bad that 1 or 2 stings will put me into anaphylactic shock. I have over 5000+ PVC's a day and the docs say it is a supposed benign condition. (which I do not believe). My wife has never had a pvc or palpitations. Anyways, I have to carry around a epipen everywhere I go. Last year I was working in my back yard and was stung twice, once in the face under the eye and once in my arm.
Avatar m tn Some allergies can be life-threatening as they can precipitate anaphylactic shock in which the swelling can be so severe that it impairs the ability to breathe. Therefore, I would suggest you see someone as soon as possible. Also, keep an epi pen with you in case of an emergency. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar m tn Additionally, it is used as a medical treatment for some potentially life-threatening conditions including anaphylactic shock. In the US, the medical community largely refers to this hormone as epinephrine, although the two terms may be used interchangeably. http://www.wisegeek.com/what-is-adrenaline.
Avatar f tn s the epinephrine that is in the lidocaine. You can ask your dentist to use an anesthetic without epinephrine, I have had tons of dental work and always ask for that. Dentist doesn't mind at all and I've never had any problems. It doesn't last as long but if you start to feel anything while they are working the dentist will just give you more. I have done fine with it.
539780 tn?1213943976 Emergency medical kits containing self-administrable epinephrine to counter anaphylactic shock are available for allergic people and should be carried by them at all times. People who suspect they are allergic should consult an allergist about shots that can reduce reactions to bee and wasp venom. Most stings can be treated at home.
Avatar f tn Hi, Yes, it is proven that latex allergy can get worse and can be life threatening leading to anaphylactic shock in case of repeated exposure to latex products. Prevention is the only method to avoid these symptoms. In case of shock epinephrine injections with supportive treatment can help cope with this. While minor allergies can be controlled with antihistamines.
Avatar f tn This is neither due to allergy nor due to anaphylactic shock. Certain foods like cheese and drink beverages contain tyramine which can raise the blood pressure as well as the heart rate in some individuals lacking MAO enzyme in intestines or when taken concurrent with MAO inhibitors (cheese reaction). The tests like blood pressure monitoring, 24 hrs urine analysis for 5-HIAA, histamine, prostaglandin and catecholamine and other blood tests. I suggest you to consult physician.
Avatar f tn I feel king of dumb asking this, but has anyone here had an allergic reaction to bees that comes back hours later? After getting stung by bees I usually have about a 20-30 minute "window" to get to my epi shot and benedryl -my reaction is unusual in that I get dizzy, my blood pressure crashes, and my throat and chest get really tight. -No rashes or redness...
Avatar f tn My partner has also had anaphylactic shock for the first time on Monday and again yesterday and today from eating and then driving back to work through an area with a lot of trees. We have gone through four epipens in three weeks... We have never had allergies so severe. She has food allergies that cause cystic acne, and I have seasonal allergies and the occasional skin sensitivity. The week after my attacks, we found a pot full of molded food above our refrigerator.
Avatar f tn I had been safely taking Tylenol (acemetophen) for headaches and pain relief, but just a few days ago I took 2 generic Walmart brand Acemetophen (I have taken these before with no issues) and went into anaphylactic shock just like the times before. I am very worried about how this may affect my ability to have surgeries or dental work done, as well as just wondering what next in terms of medications and there effect in me. I scared to take anything prescribed or not.
Avatar f tn Vomiting and diarrhea can be symptoms of an anaphylactic reaction to a vaccine, however it's extremely odd for anaphylaxis to occur two or three days after the vaccine is administered. Normally it's almost immediately afterward, and almost always within the first 24 hours after being given the shot. In addition to the vomiting and diarrhea she would have had very pale gums, her pulse would have been very weak and her heart rate would have been very rapid.
Avatar n tn They are used to treat anaphylactic shock. Using an EpiPen that has expired is mostly discouraged but is better than no medication in emergencies. There is no alternative to epipen in case of anaphylaxis reaction but if a mild allergic reaction is there then oral or intravenous antihistaminic and steroid can be used. Thirdly, from your symptoms it looks like you are allergic to crustaceans.
Avatar f tn I had an anaphylactic reaction to procedure to shock my heart back into normal Rhythm using the medication etomidate metaparadigm
Avatar f tn My 9 year son who loves the outdoors was recently stung three times by a wasp or hornet. We work in the Philippines. His reaction was severe and the doctors said we were lucky that he is still alive. When we lived in the US he was stung several times but never reacted. My question is this: Are allergic reactions to stings regional? If we return to the US will our son not be allergic to the wasp venom there?
1460427 tn?1285773515 I am severely allergic to my own progesterone and suffer anaphylactic shock. I have been forced by the medical community to survive on my own using my own research and natural meds due to being thought of as a hypochondriac. I've seen 16 specialist in the last 3 years, one for just about every organ in my body, had many misdiagnosis including fibromyalgia, anxiety/depression disorder, psychosomatic, etc all treated with meds that caused more damage.
Avatar n tn November 2 I had a bowl of clam chowder (eaten many times in my life) and a half hour later I was in anaphylactic shock. I was rushed to emergency, given benedryl and sent home 4 hours later. I got an Epipen for I was told, although rare, that I could have a secondary reaction within the next week. Sure enough November 5 I had a second reaction (bi-phasic reaction). I was given the epipen by my mother for I passed out and couldn't give it myself. Back to the hospital.
Avatar n tn I have seen an allergist. That was the first one tested, and I went into anaphylactic shock. As I went into shock, I lost consciousness and woke two days later. I was told to stay away from all steroids. I may have found a doctor though, that may be able to use Prolensa or another non-steroid. I am waiting to hear back. Thank you for responding.

Avatar n tn Thyroid diseases do not discriminate between men and women. Are you suffering with thyroid disease? Have you had your levels tested?
Avatar m tn The question is that one of the side effects of this drug is anaphylactic shock.. Now if it never happened before can it happen now or am i safe ??
Avatar f tn I go through different phobias with my anxiety! For a couple of months I thought I was going to die from anaphylactic shock! I have no allergies, but my mind took over! I would not eat anything with nuts for a few weeks then it was shellfish! I always ate those things before without any issues! It was all in my head, I could literally feel my tongue and throat swelling! I knew in reality it wasn't though, I could still swallow, my airway was fine I was just being phobic!
Avatar f tn When I was tested, the allergy doctor had to pull me out of the testing room and give me a shot of epinephrine because I was having such a sever reaction. I also got 2.5 years of shots, one in each arm, every week and it did NOTHING. The only relief I get is when winter returns. If I rinse my eyes out with cold water and apply a cold rag compress, it gives some relief. That's not so awesome when you wear makeup.
