Enoxaparin vs heparin

Common Questions and Answers about Enoxaparin vs heparin

lovenox

Avatar n tn It turns out that portal vein and superior mesenteric vein are thrombosed. They put her on enoxaparin and wanted her to rest for 5 days until the next control. She refused to be put on heparin or warfarin because of her history of gastrointestinal bleeding and recent surgery. We've been told thrombectomy would be extremely risky, given her medical history. I read somewhere enoxaparin only prevents further occlusion of the vein and does not lyse existing clot.
Avatar n tn In one study, 50 women with thrombophilia (including 20 factor V Leiden heterozygotes) and recurrent pregnancy loss were treated with enoxaparin throughout 61 subsequent pregnancies. The live birth rate was 75% with enoxaparin prophylaxis, compared to 20% in prior untreated pregnancies [Brenner et al 2000].
Avatar n tn continue through with warfarin, or to stop the warfarin and bridge in between with enoxaparin or heparin (as snconorm had done). http://www.circ.ahajournals.org/cgi/content/full/116/22/2531 So continuing through with warfarin seems to be the newer strategy. What would NOT be done is to stop anticoagulation altogether.
Avatar m tn I am 27 weeks pregnancy and have dvt, start to using CLEXANE(ENOXAPARIN) I am really worried is there any harm to my baby Thanks & Rgards
Avatar f tn During the present pregnancy, my doctor has recommended aspirin and Low Molecular Weight Heparin (like Clexane) for the entire pregnancy period. I am regularly taking these both medicines. Regularly undergoing Ultrasound regular scan and Doppler scan. Till now the growth of fetus is good and is better than the last pregnancy. But my platelet count is coming down, now its around 160,000. I have heard, usually during pregnancy platelet count comes down.

Avatar n tn Hi there. Went today for my 31 week appt and my ob had mentioned that we switch from lovenox to heparin at about 36 weeks. I'm on lovenox for factor 5 with history of a blood clot. She also then recommended induction at 39 weeks.... the heparin would be a good idea if an epidural was needed/wanted but it's more cost and twice a day rather than once. I'm really focused on a natural delivery but understand that plans can change suddenly.
374593 tn?1257879950 What color is yalls heparin label? I used heparin last year with the pregnancy with my daughter, and the label was white with brown on it.. I just picked some more heparin up today (after a shocking BFP last week!) and it looks different - mostly brown label.. it says its the same dosing, but it still freaks me out a little after all the drama with it over the past few years.. Any help is GREATLY appreciated!! hope all is well with everyone!
Avatar f tn It has been suggested that patients on long-term warfarin therapy (including those with mechanical heart valves or atrial fibrillation) who are undergoing minor elective invasive outpatient procedures (eg, colonoscopy, dental procedures) may have a slightly increased risk of perioperative bleeding if placed in some form of heparin therapy (eg, heparin bridge) than those who have their oral anticoagulation withheld for 4-5 days (major hemorrhage 3.7% vs 0.
374593 tn?1257879950 So i realized my new heparin looks different due to it being from a different manufacturer than my old heparin (the new is from baxter vs APP) but i'm worried since the new heparin doesn't burn when i inject it like the old stuff did... Anyone use the baxter brand(brown label) , I have read it over and over again, and its the same dosing 10,000 units/ml and everything, but it doesnt' burn at all when I inject it.. Makes me soooo nervous that its not right!
Avatar n tn 3 days later it closed with a clot and balloon angioplasty was performed on branch and lcx. Pressure intensified after that even though on heparin drip and nitro drip and enzymes went up. 2 Taxus 2 stents placed after that to lcx across the branch closing the branch off. The heparin drip was stopped right before the new stents went in which I thought was weird because weren’t more clots a worry but I came home and have had pressure ever since.
Avatar f tn Okay so I am 37+4 and I have been on Heparin for a little over a week now and was on lovenox since I found out I was pregnant due to a DVT I had back in June of 2012 after gallbladder surgery. My question is can I request to be induced? Its been stressful and I'm worried about going into labor naturally and not being able to have an epidural or having complications due to having to be on this medication. Does anyone think I would be able to be induced because of this risk factor?
Avatar m tn What are the risks to the baby after the heparin is stopped and should she be induced after stopping the heparin?
Avatar f tn Yes I'm on the generic enoxaparin. I was on it with my first and forth (all 4 pregnancies were miscarriages). Now I'm on it again since 3 1/2 weeks pregnant.
403153 tn?1297254495 When Clexane (or enoxaprin, low molecular weight heparin) is initiated we usually switch women to unfractionated heparin at 36 weeks given the uncertaintly of the onset of labor in order to minimize the risk of excessive bleeding or make a spinal or epidural too risky. In terms of the duration of use after delivery, this is usually guided by one's thromboembolic history (that is to say, if they have had a clot or not) and mode of delivery (cesarean vs. vaginal).
604185 tn?1233960857 Is anyone taking blood thinner during pregnancy? I have to start with heparin 5000 units tonight. Just wanted to know if it's safe and won't affect the little one?
Avatar n tn When I went to get my initial IRN check, the nurse explained to me that there were different classes of drugs (I think 8) that worked on coagulation. Heparin was one, aspirin was another, then Coumadin/Warfarin, Plavix, etc. She explained that I had to be on the Warfarin and aspirin while healing because these were the drugs best suited to my condition.
Avatar f tn For those on Heparin: my RE's office told me there has been a recall on Heparin manufactured by Baxter. Here's some more information: http://www.baxter.com/about_baxter/news_room/news_releases/2008/02-28-08-heparin.html check with your Dr.
Avatar f tn im currently almost 15 weeks and taking heparin shots...so far things have been uneventful with the heparin but i have been forewarned that heparin can cause spotting good luck at your FA scan...
1262373 tn?1281543782 Why are you on the heparin if I may ask? If it is due to blood clots they probably won't take you off. That's why I have to go on them. I dont know what it will do if you already have very small babies. I haven't had a child yet. I've had 4 miscarriages b/c of MTHFR. I would ask just to know if the weight would be smaller.
Avatar f tn Is it normal to give heparin to a patient who has had TIA's and high blood pressure?
8958586 tn?1481360712 I had a CT scan to check my diaphragm as I've been having difficulty taking deep breaths. It was a contrast CT and they used my port access to give me the contrast. After they were finished, they didn't flush the port, but just administered the heparin. After my IVIg treatments, they saline flush my port with two syringes before they do the heparin. I'm nervous about asking nurses to do something, as have had bad experiences with nurses needing to be right.
