Avatar n tn In one study, 50 women with thrombophilia (including 20 factor V Leiden heterozygotes) and recurrent pregnancy loss were treated with enoxaparin throughout 61 subsequent pregnancies. The live birth rate was 75% with enoxaparin prophylaxis, compared to 20% in prior untreated pregnancies [Brenner et al 2000].
Avatar n tn On the 22nd post-operative day, due to severe pain in the epigastric zone, her doctor ordered an abdominal CT. It turns out that portal vein and superior mesenteric vein are thrombosed. They put her on enoxaparin and wanted her to rest for 5 days until the next control. She refused to be put on heparin or warfarin because of her history of gastrointestinal bleeding and recent surgery. We've been told thrombectomy would be extremely risky, given her medical history.

Avatar f tn Blood oxygen levels are not a botheration at this time but you should concentrate on losing some weight. Weight reduction, if you are overweight or obese, is the optimal health strategy for patients who suffer from COPD. This can be done through a combination of diet, an increase in physical activity and sometimes medication. Weight reduction can help reduce dyspnea, increase exercise tolerance and improve your quality of life.
Avatar n tn The problem becomes more evident in some patient categories, such as obese patients, those with chronic bronchopneumopathy or those patients in intensive care, for which for various reasons the acoustic window is suboptimal.
Avatar n tn continue through with warfarin, or to stop the warfarin and bridge in between with enoxaparin or heparin (as snconorm had done). http://www.circ.ahajournals.org/cgi/content/full/116/22/2531 So continuing through with warfarin seems to be the newer strategy. What would NOT be done is to stop anticoagulation altogether.
Avatar m tn Obese patients usually are encouraged to lose weight before having surgery. Although weight loss alone is not likely to solve the problem, it can make complications during and after surgery less likely. Weight loss and nutritional counseling can help patients before and after surgery. Psychological counseling: Mental health professionals may address issues such as depression, sexual dysfunction, and low self-esteem.
Avatar f tn Yes I'm on the generic enoxaparin. I was on it with my first and forth (all 4 pregnancies were miscarriages). Now I'm on it again since 3 1/2 weeks pregnant.
Avatar f tn I am 30 weeks pregnant. In the last pregnancy (2007), I had still birth at 34 weeks due to IUGR. During the present pregnancy, my doctor has recommended aspirin and Low Molecular Weight Heparin (like Clexane) for the entire pregnancy period. I am regularly taking these both medicines. Regularly undergoing Ultrasound regular scan and Doppler scan. Till now the growth of fetus is good and is better than the last pregnancy. But my platelet count is coming down, now its around 160,000.
Avatar f tn Likewise, ultrasound in obese patients is not nearly as accurate in diagnosing fatty liver as it is in normal weight individuals. Your liver enzymes are really not that far out of range that you should panic or anything like that but they do suggest some ongoing damage which should be diagnosed with as much certainty as possible. You said you saw a "specialist' who told you because you're extremely obese you obviously have fatty liver. What type of specialist was this doctor?
Avatar f tn Two out of three people in the U.S. are overweight or obese, resulting in a skyrocketing rate of type 2 diabetes that now affects at least 18.2 million Americans, including an increasing number of young people. An estimated 41 million Americans have prediabetes and are at risk of developing full-blown type 2 diabetes unless they lose weight and increase physical activity. Diabetes is a leading cause of heart disease, stroke, blindness, kidney disease, amputations and other complications.
612551 tn?1450022175 One small study found that 3 g/day or 6 g/day of fish oil did not affect INR values in 10 patients on warfarin over a 4-week period (161). However, a recent case report described an individual who required a reduction of her warfarin dose when she doubled her fish oil dose from 1 g/day to 2 g/day (162).
976897 tn?1379167602 It seems the experts for heart disease in the UK have found a startling paradox. Obese patients seem to have a much better prognosis than those of normal weight, yet it isn't understood why. A study done resulted with the conclusion an obese person is far less likely to die within 7 years than someone with normal weight. It's totally the opposite to what they expected.
14296391 tn?1434136829 m moving a lot better today in comparison to Monday. So, with all that in mind, when should I begin adding in exercise?
15480 tn?1302529802 I was diagnosed yesterday with chronic EBV. My doctor wants me to take Adipex to help with the extreme fatigue. However, when I researched Adipex it says it is used as a weight loss drug for morbidly obese people. I am 5'6" and weigh 148 lbs. I am certainly not morbidly obese and I am very concerned after researching the side effects of this medication. Has anyone else ever taken Adipex before? Thanks for you help!
Avatar f tn My bmi was 31 pre pregnancy I had horrible morning sickness... not sure what they called it lost 19 pounds because of it! I am a chubby girl but I got my baby bump and feel the baby (17 weeks feeling it since 13 weeks) also I should mention this is my 2nd. Avatar n tn Shortness of breath, (dyspnea), is a relatively common symptom in Dysautonomia patients. Even still, if you are experiencing new respiratory symptoms, I would suggest visiting a Pulmonary Specialist. Even in the absence of Asthma, an oral bronchodilator like Theophylline is sometimes prescribed to stimulate respiration. Theophylline can also be used as a somewhat mild vasoconstrictor, (similar in strength to the vasoconstricting ability of Ritalin in my experience).
Avatar f tn It most often occurs in persons who are middle-aged and overweight or obese. Many patients with NASH have elevated blood lipids, such as cholesterol and triglycerides, and many have diabetes or pre-diabetes, but not every obese person or every patient with diabetes has NASH. Furthermore, some patients with NASH are not obese, do not have diabetes, and have normal blood cholesterol and lipids. NASH can occur without any apparent risk factor and can even occur in children.
505907 tn?1258369340 The reason I write here is in the mini - chapter about health they state that 50% of bipolar patients are obese. 50%! I've been on line investigating this study but I can't exactly replicate that statistic. On http://pmbcii.psy.cmu.edu/fagiolini/2002_Fagiolini.pdf Pfizer maintains that 32% of BP patients in their study were obese. Well, which is it? How do you feel about this "statistic"?
Avatar f tn Moderate osteopenia can be a contraindication in obese patients. Mild osteopenia patients can have knee replacement but are rigorously followed up with calcium and vitamin D supplements. Please discuss with your doctor. Take care! The medical advice given should not be considered a substitute for medical care provided by a doctor who can examine you. The advice may not be completely correct for you as the doctor cannot examine you and does not know your complete medical history.
Avatar f tn There can be many causes of fatty liver like dietary, obesity, intake of alcohol, severe weight loss, malnutrition, total parenteral nutrition, hepatitis C etc.It is also seen in patients with diabetes mellitus and those with high cholesterol and triglyceride levels. You seem to be otherwise healthy so a slight fatty liver can be easily cured. Are you obese? If you are obese then a program consisting of a nutritious low fat diet, exercise and weight reduction can be helpful.
Avatar m tn The truth is, food allergies can cause attacks in many patients–and if you work with a doctor who can help determine what’s really eating you, you can avoid those foods and the attacks that come with them. In addition, consider a safer and more natural coping strategy such as the breathing exercises of the Buteyko method, which have helped asthmatics cut back on meds by up to 90 percent. I think you’ll agree: Cutting back is way better than doubling the dose.
Avatar m tn Ultrasound is very sensitive for detecting gallstones, but false negatives may occur if the gallbladder is partially contracted (which can happen if not fasting 4-6 hours prior to imaging). Visualization of the gallbladder may also be limited in patients who are obese and/or patients with abdominal wounds.
Avatar f tn She may encounter problems during recovery, as this takes much longer for obese patients. Also, she can expect a bigger scar and more stitches because it is hard to re-align excess skin and fat tissue. I really hope that the surgery goes well and that your sister changes her lifestyle to a healthier options - whether she is having the surgery or not.
Avatar f tn I know the feeling ive had a belighted ovum in 2011 miscarried at 4-6 weeks and in 2012 this same doctor I'm seeing tried to do a cerclage at 20 weeks he ended up busting my sac and my baby got an infection so we ended up losing our baby girl :( I hoping he's just off in my weeks with this baby I should if found a new doctor I don't have faith in this one
Avatar m tn I am morbidly obese. My question is:I have a lot of pain (especially when touched) in what seems to be the fatty tissue, especially in the upper legs (thighs) and the upper arms. I can also feel nodule underneath the skin (not sure if in fat of facia) and if these are pressed, the pain is tremendous, often radiating all over.
Avatar n tn Tinzaparin could be a cause for hair loss. In the case report that follows the alopecia, commonly called hair loss, was reversible with the switch to another low molecular weight heparin.
