Avatar f tn ve never seen before. Told him my symptoms, he felt my neck and agreed that my thyroid is very enlarged. Did the TSH test and was scheduled for an u/s. Got the test results at the end of the day and the level is .76, which is at the low end of the 'normal' range, but would be more indictive of hyperthyroidism, which my symptoms do not match. I don't know what to do.
Avatar n tn I know that the last two are normal according to the result paper however not sure about the TSH. Please assist me with this.
Avatar f tn Thank you for the response. The thyroid measurements are actually: right: 5.1 x 1.9 x 1.6 left: 4.5 x 1.2 x 1.4 The right side is where it feels as though it's gotten larger, and this is where I often feel that annoying "flutter" in my neck. This u/s was done 6 months ago and I feel that it's gotten larger even since then. I am going to request another u/s, but based on those measurements does the right side seem like it could be just slightly enlarged? Thanks!
Avatar f tn I have been told by my endocrinologist that I probably have hashimotos--even though my antibody test was normal. She said this happens sometimes. My thyroid is slightly enlarged and rubbery. tsh is normal but free t-4 is low. I have symptoms of hypothyroidism and other causes have been ruled out. Have you heard of this?
Avatar m tn I am wondering why my thyroid is enlarged without the TSH being out of the normal range. Could this be an Iodine deficiency? Do you think this could be Hashimoto's, or something else. Im currently seeing an endocrinologist, and rheumatologist, and was hoping for a second opinion.
Avatar n tn since i have all the symptoms and the enlarged thyroid, the dr put me on 50mcg of synthroid and i have to have my bloodwork rechecked in 2 months. does this sound normal? should i be taking the synthroid with a normal TSH? does this sound like i have hashimotos? and should i request additional bloodwork in 2 months other than just the TSH? i was also wondering if it is okay to take my birth control pills, vitamins and aleve while taking synthroid.
Avatar f tn Many symptoms of hyperthyroid but all thyroid tests t3 t4 uptake ultrasound of thyroid and iodine uptake scan all normal - tsh slightly low - for over a year now. Getting MRI of pituitary next week. Was told tsh actually measures pituitary not thyroid and if tsh is off but others not it could be pituitary problem not thyroid... I don't know just wish they'd figure it out soon. Sick of all these tests sick of being so tired and have now lost over 30lbs.
Avatar n tn My T3 and T4 results were normal and my TSH was 2.64. Three months ago the TSH was 4.42. The thyroid ultrasound showed an enlarged thyroid on the right lobe with a small nodule. My physician suggests we test again in a year, even though my symptoms continue. I have gained 15 pounds and no matter what I do I can't lose any weight. I'm also always cold, constipated, and so fatigued by early afternoon.
Avatar f tn I had an ultrasound that revealed an enlarged right lobe and a nodule - there is no left lobe (I never had surgery on my thyroid) I had a normal TSH and a normal T3 and T4 Should I be asking for more thyroid bloodwork? (Like free T3 and T4, etc.) or does the TSH tell what needs to be told? Is it possible to have a normally functioning thyroid with half missing and the other half enlarged?
Avatar n tn The thyroid levels appear normal. The nuclear scan does not add anything to the evaluation and the slightly high uptake levels are not meaningful in the absence of thyroid dysfunction and may be due to relative low iodine in the diet. The exception would be a fluctuation in thyroid function but the repeatedly normal TSH levels over time suggest against this.
Avatar f tn at 23 i had a abnormal ekg and my thyroid was enlarged. But my chest x-ray looked good and my tsh level was normal. I have had several problems for the past 15 yrs. my vitamin d is low now and i am on 5ok IUs every 5 days now. could all this be cause by my Thyroid. have every symptom of a hyperthyroid. so musch so 3 dr.s have tested me for it. just do not understand.
Avatar f tn Was there mention of nodules on the thyroid gland? Enlarged thyroid gland could cause pain and difficulty swallowing, but it would have to be pretty enlarged to do so. Not sure what the "chain of cervical lymph nodes" means. The body has a lot of lymph nodes. Was there any comments about nodules on the thyroid? Was there an "impression" at the end of the MRI report?
Avatar f tn My doctor has been saying for a few years that my thyroid is enlarged, however, no tests have been done on it so far. She was just going on visual exam. All TSH tests through 2007 were normal. My last one, in 2007 was 2.something. Last week, they ran another TSH and Free T4. TSH was 11.6 (range 0.27-4.20) and Free T4 was 1.11 (unsure of the range, but it was "normal.").
Avatar n tn The results said I have a heterogenous thyroid gland with no distinct nodule and enlarged lymph nodes. About a moth later after a UTI which resolved when treated with bactrim, I started to get random low grade fevers (99.0-100.8) accompanied by nausea and feeling like I was getting a hot flash. When it flared up my face would get red kinda like a lupus butterfly rash and I felt like I had a brick in my stomach.
Avatar n tn 11 year old granddaughter with enlarged thyroid and multiple masses around it according to scan - blood work normal - has a large bump on her neck area - what is it?
Avatar m tn My mom had an enlarged thyroid for many years with normal blood, this was years ago and was never ultrasound - don't think they had it then :) Then overnight it grew to twice it's size and they removed it. I am 43 have normal blood work (TSH T4 T3) but I was having joint pain, fullness feeling in neck area, feeling like was going to get a sore throat and a bit of a cough - but I don't have a cold, ear pain.
Avatar f tn t emphasize enough that TSH is NOT the best way to evaluate thyroid status. TSH is a pituitary hormone. It can be affected by any number of factors besides thyroid hormone levels. Free T3 and free T4 are the tests of the actual thyroid hormones. They are MUCH mor important than TSH for a number of reasons. FT3 correlates best with symptoms, FT4 is somewhat behind FT3. And TSH barely makes the list.
752468 tn?1237560359 Is it possible to have a thyroid problem with normal thyroid function?. My gynocologist, among several other doctors in the past has suggested strongly that I find out why my thyroid is so enlarged. He did the thyroid function blood tests which came out normal, but he thinks it should be further investigated. I had a scan done years ago, which showed no nodules, but the question still comes up whenever my gynocologist sees me.
Avatar f tn I have been suffering with tightness of my throat/neck for quite some time now. About a year ago, two nodules were found on the left side of my thyroid...because of a large family history of thyroid cancer I have been checked throughly for cancer..biopsys the works. At my latest ultrasound I was told that now the left side of my thyroid is much more swollen, the nodules are pretty much the same. So now I am told I have a goiter. I have had all the typical hypo symptoms forever now.
Avatar f tn My doctor said my tonsils were swollen, she felt swollen lymph nodes and my thyroid was enlarged. My TSH is 2.36, free T4 is 1.31. A mono screening was ran and came back negative. A Blood Panel was ran and everything came back within normal limits. She sent me for an ultrasound that came back clean, no nodules or anything. What the heck is going on? Is it possible that the ultrasound was wrong?
Avatar m tn TSH normal, thyroid scan showed enlarged thyroid, thyroid uptake showed enlarged thyroid due to goiter - no hot or cold nodules. Now, it's up to me - what do I do? My doctor said I could go to an endocrinologist for a consultation. ?? What more will the endocrinologist do? Wondering what I should do. Do I need a biopsy? Do I need it removed?
Avatar f tn I had ultrasounds, and a laperoscopy, nothing showed up she suggested I watch my diet and reccomended me to another doc. Doc # 5 ran a whole pannel of blood tests and noted that my thyroid was enlarged but the test came back normal. She sent me to a ruhmatologist for a high ANA test. I was treated to a "lupus like disease" and didn't feel any better. I quit my med and all the docs.
Avatar f tn t testing anything but TSH. FT3 and FT4 are the actual thyroid hormones and much more important diagnostics than TSH. I think it's an excellent idea that you are getting a second opinion. Make sure this new doctor runs FT3 and FT4 and treats based on them rather than TSH. Yes, I agree, what are your symptoms and are you on thyroid meds?
