Common Questions and Answers about Enbrel psoriatic arthritis

enbrel

Avatar f tn ve been on Enbrel for about 5 years and it has been an extremely good medication for both the psoriasis and the psoriatic arthritis. My concern is what am I going to do now that my husband is retired and my health insurance won't cover the cost. I live in Canada and the cost of this medication is approximately $22,000.00 a year which my husband's company insurance covered but now that he is retired, it will not cover the cost for my lifetime.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis. I have normal blood results, no elevated numbers on test results. I have swelling and edema in right hand fingers and knees, I have some joint pain and some hives at times. No psoriasis on me. I am in my late twenties my doctor wants me to take embrel. I do not have typical back symptoms of this type of arthritis. I need a diagnosis, What could this be? I tend to get stressed and that causessome symptoms to be stronger.
Avatar f tn He diagnosed me with Psoriatic Arthritis which is an autoimmune disease that he believed was triggered by the interferon. He wanted to start me on Enbrel right away but I opted to wait. I did have some steroid injections though. Well....slowly but surely the pain started to subside. It took a few months to really notice the difference but Im now 11 months post treatment and all the joint pain is gone. Im glad I didnt start the Enbrel and was patient.
Avatar f tn I used to take a drug for psoriatic arthritis that can induce MS or MS-like symptoms in rare cases. I had tingling and numbness on the left side of my face, extending down through my left arm. I also had burning sensations in my fingertips, and buzzing in my fingertips, along with recurrent uveitis. I was MRIed twice. The first time I had 1 lesion, and the second (one month later) there were 3 more lesions. I was taken off the drug and I didn't have any symptoms.
Avatar f tn I suffer quite badly from Psoriatic Arthritis. I have no signs of Psoriasis, but my joints are inflammed and very painful. I'm 33, female. I'm taking 25mg of Methotrexate weekly, other anit-inflammatroy drugs. I'm interested in hearing from others who suffer from this and what they are going through, as I've never met anyone who suffers from this.
Avatar m tn My dad has been taking Enbrel for several yrs for psoriatic arthritis. I realize this is not the same condition as yours, but it has helped him tremendously!
Avatar f tn Granted, we have different types of arthritis, mine being psoriatic arthritis, but I can tell you that I was on Enbrel alone for atleast three years and I had great results with no side effects. For me it was a wonder drug. You may wonder why I would go off something so great...it was a dollars and cents issue. My husband retired and my lifelong coverage of medication was reduced to $100,000. On a medication like Enbrel, I would go through that within 4 to 5 years.
1272624 tn?1395434357 Oh btw he's has psoriatic arthritis
370181 tn?1595629445 I have now been through prednisone, methotrexate, Enbrel, Humara(Humira? sp) then back to Enbrel.......then nothing. The Enbrel worked very well, but I have massive anxiety about the biologics. I just don't trust them and and it's very frustrating. I feel like I'm between a rock and a hard spot. On one hand they really do make me feel better, pain and ROM vastly improved.
Avatar m tn As TX pointed out psoriatic arthritis is also one of the 100 types of arthritis there are. It is important to be your own advocate, make the doctor give you some kind of answers or at least what he/she thinks some of the tests point to. I went to 3 well respected doctors and was told I had chronic poly arthritis which means they didn't have a clue what was wrong with me. I was finally properly dx with Ankoylosing Spondylitis and Reactive Arthritis.
422104 tn?1209763904 I have severe psoriatic arthritis (it's like RA, just not quite as deforming) and used Enbrel for four years 3X a week plus one injection of metho. For me it was a miracle drug! I felt like a spring chicken again! I could go up and down stairs, I could squat, I could get in and out of chairs or off the toilet without help.............I felt normal for the first time in years. I stopped taking it last August, almost a year ago, and it's been a nightmare.
Avatar n tn She saw the rhuematologist who said it was Psoriatic Arthritis and prescribed naprxen whic did not help then feldene which helped a little and now she will start taking methotrexate injections every week. My daughter is going through severe depression and is unable to attend school on somedays due to severe fatigue. She is on the 504 Plan and is in all honors classes but is so tired. She wants to work part-time for extra money like her friends but is so tired all the time.
Avatar m tn regulators have approved the drug for rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis, a painful, progressive form of spinal arthritis. All three forms of arthritis are chronic disorders in which the immune system attacks joints, causing stiffness, pain and restricted motion. The drug is injected under the skin once a month. It is made to be used alongside drugs that suppress the immune system.
Avatar f tn My sister has psoriatic arthritis and takes Remicade by IV monthly. It has made a tremendous difference in her pain level. We talk often about our symptoms being alike in so many ways. I am just wondering if your doctors have treated you with Remicade?
Avatar f tn I am 62, on disability for my RA, and like the doc said, psoriatic arthritis as well. I am independent and am proud of myself. Have been this way all my life, and now this. The symptoms have started this past summer. I'm thinking June or July. Oh and thanks for your response. I should have done this first, but the whole situation is kind of overwhelming. I used to work in this field (nursing assistant), and have seen patients in the various stages of MS, including the final one.
Avatar f tn There is also a small patch on my legs which is ignoring what ever I trow at it. But yes, Humira saved me as well as psoriatic arthritis that was developing too. I have had no complications with infections and I am so grateful. This disease is surely genetic with environmental predisposition and hope we finally nail it down for good.
5625068 tn?1371156181 I was just diagnosed with Psoriatic Arthritis and am currently only 39 years old. now need to decide on a medication and have been giving the chose between the infusion and giving myself shots. My doctors seems to be leaning toward Humira shots. The idea of giving myself shots for the rest of my life is very overwhelming. My mother gives herself shots, and wants the infusion, but cannot because she would have to change medicines and her Embrel is working so the Dr. wont switch her.
1120928 tn?1263190816 I was just diagnosed with Psoriatic arthritis and Ankylosing Sponylitis this last week and I am beyond scared and lost. My Dr. has given me the choice of taking Humira or Remicade and explained the risks of TNF blockers. I have a blood disorder that weekend my immune system at a young age and I am not sure of taking something that would weaken it more.

787406 tn?1339203183 When I developed psoriasis in my left ear I happened to tell my Rheumatologist and he said, “Ok, NOW I know why your low back/sacrum hurts all the time!” I thought that sounded crazy but Psoriatic arthritis manifests itself similarly to RA but give you psoriasis and and infamed sacroiliac joint! How’s that for bizarre! Everything else you describe is spot on!
775302 tn?1253100505 You mean Psoriatic Arthritis, correct? I have very mild psoriasis but I don't know anything about Psoriatic Arthritis except it is much more of a challenge then just having the skin disease. As far as treatment for Hep C, I can tell you that the PegInterferon and Ribivrin can cause a severe outbreak of psoriasis. I don't know if you experienced that when you were on treatment or not. But it is something to watch for, if you do decide to treat your HCV again in the future.
Avatar f tn psoriatic arthritis and RA can present in very similar fashions. You can have symmetrical PsA. Best site I have found for more info on the various types of PsA is www.spondylitis.org This site is dedicated to the spondylotharapies, a group of autoimmune diseases. Just to through another wrench in things, it is also possible to have what they call seronegative (tests come back negative) RA. Better yet, in rare cases, you can get both (hi! I'm rare.
Avatar f tn granular tissue consistent with Psoriatic Arthritis. (I was diagnosed with psoriasis at age 14). He referred me to a rheumatologist who started me on Humira. I then moved from CO to SD. The rheumatologist in SD simply tried adding Methotrexate and an NSAID to the Humira, which was not doing anything for my pain. After a few months of worsening pain, the SD doc replaced Humira with Enbrel in addition to the Methotrexate and Mobic.
Avatar n tn m having trouble getting anyone at my Dermatology clinic to talk to me or make an appointment (military health care) Could this be Psoriatic Arthritis. what other things can cause joint pain in a health 26 year old female.
Avatar n tn I was "diagnosed" with psoriatic arthritis severala years ago. I use quotes becasue a doctor looked at my swollen thumb and said "yup, psoriatic arthritis". I've got a doctors appointment (different doctor) because I've developed chronic joint pain in my fingers and left wrist and a wierd splotchy rash on my forearms and shins that doesn't itch, isn't hot to the touch and isn't disseminated any place else on my body.
