Avatar f tn Well, I'm a complicated case. I don't test positive for arthritis at all, but I have the symptoms of rheumatoid.
Avatar f tn ve had rheumatoid arthritis for 11 years and lost 100 pounds with great results. Just walking around the block gave me great pain relief and removed all signs of depression. It took months just to get to the corner but it helped after concentration and prayer during the walk. Buy a walkman or mp3 player. Also plaquenil worked for years (possible side effect is blindness). Asulfizine and methotrexate didn't work for me.
Avatar f tn d seen a rheumatology for a proper diagnosis. Are you talking about osteo-arthritis or rheumatoid arthritis? They are two very different animals.
Avatar m tn regulators have approved the drug for rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis, a painful, progressive form of spinal arthritis. All three forms of arthritis are chronic disorders in which the immune system attacks joints, causing stiffness, pain and restricted motion. The drug is injected under the skin once a month. It is made to be used alongside drugs that suppress the immune system.
Avatar f tn Hello Shirl000, I was just diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis a few weeks ago and have been on naproxen for about a month now. It helps with the pain and some days are better than others. I went to a rheumatoid dr and she gave me other medications to take along with the naproxen to help alleviate the pain. Hope this helps and you're feeling better.
Avatar f tn I have been on Enbrel in the past for at least 3 years until my arthritis progressed. I have never had any of the symptoms that you have described. I have had the darkened areas along the injection areas. I would check with the doctor regarding this.

1544019 tn?1318504526 t control it, (according to the lady at the pregnancy risk hotline we talked to today) Rheumatoid ARthritis puts me at risk for still birth and preterm labor. She said the Enbrel can be taken up to one week before I deliver. Which is a miracle, really, because I have had such a horrible flare the last two days. And it's gotten bad REALLY fast. So I was all excited to be able to give myself an Enbrel shot - knowing how well it helps me.
Avatar m tn also she has to walk everyday or she stiffens up...there are some meds available for rheumatoid arthritis, but i am not sure if they work on osteo-arthritis...ask your doc about this med called enbrel...worth a shot...no pun intended...GL!!! when she gets bad she will also get shots of cortizone...but she can only take advantage of this 3 or 4 times a year, but it does help her a lot...
787406 tn?1339203183 It sounds like it. Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is an autoimmune disease that causes chronic inflammation of the joints. Rheumatoid arthritis can also cause inflammation of the tissue around the joints, as well as in other organs in the body. Autoimmune diseases are illnesses that occur when the body's tissues are mistakenly attacked by their own immune system.
1544019 tn?1318504526 So just an update about this. Just when we finally got cleared for me to take the Enbrel while pregnant, we find out it's not going to be into the pharmacy until Friday AND it's going to cost $900!!! BUT it turns out it will actually probably be safer for me TO take the Enbrel. I have to control my arthritis because if I don't control it, (according to the lady at the pregnancy risk hotline we talked to today) Rheumatoid ARthritis puts me at risk for still birth and preterm labor.
Avatar f tn ve been checked for Lupus, Lyme Disease, RA blah blah blah and for the most part all blood work has always come back normal/neg. And from having to switch Drs. etc. I always had to start over... Very nerve racking... Anyhow. Earlier this year my symptoms became unbearable and we started up the blood work once again. I don't have my results in front of me to give you exact tests etc. but once again Lupus, RA and Lyme were all neg. but my inflammation lvl was fairly high.
Avatar m tn The opto suggested that I go tested for rheumatoid arthritis. I tested negative for lymes disease. I did have a postive anachoice screen w/refl ifa. I also had a ana titer and patter - anti-nuclear ab titer ana pattern of 1.40. (1.80 elevated antibody level) My rheumatoid factor is 7 and c-reactive is 0.4. I have some pain and stiffness in my knees. And sometime feel stiff in my back. I am 35 yr old male in reasonablly good health. I also get chronic sinus infections (4-5 a yr).
Avatar f tn I’ve been taking Enbrel for the past 15 years or so with HUGE success! I have since Retired from work last month and now have a limited income. I signed up to Medicare/AARP for my post retirement healthcare requirement. During employment my Co-Pay was 25 dollars for a month supply. Now, Medicare and AARP collective insurance leaves me with 1,000 dollars for a month supply. Retail? $4600-$5500 for a 4 doses (month supply) Is there ANYTHING else that works as well as this?
536293 tn?1233252389 As part of the rheumatoid process, firm, non-tender, subcutaneous nodules develop in about 25 percent of rheumatoid arthritis patients. These are commonly found at pressure points like the elbow, back of the forearm, and metacarpophalangeal joint. Nodules usually occur in chronic active cases of rheumatoid arthritis, and are commonly associated with more joint deformity and serious extra-articular manifestations including lungs, eyes, and blood vessels.
Avatar f tn 29, 2009 - Rheumatoid arthritis patients who take the biologic drugs Remicade, Humira, and Enbrel do not appear to have an increased risk for developing cancer in the first few years of use, researchers in Sweden report. The study is one of the largest and longest population-based investigations ever into the cancer-causing potential of the drugs, known as tumor necrosis factor (TNF) inhibitors.
Avatar f tn This case suggests that interferon therapy may precipitate subclinical rheumatoid arthritis in an individual without pre-existing clinical arthritis. Avatar f tn The presentation of small nodules in a patient with known Rheumatoid arthritis makes me think more of rheumatoid nodules – the findings may well be part of the RA. The testing for lupus is pretty standard. There are overlapping symptoms and sometimes combinations of rheumatologic diseases. Is there a particular reason you are not looking forward to the methotrexate? is it the possibility of stomach upset?
Avatar n tn s Posts While the past decade has seen great advances in the understanding and treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, there are still segments of the rheumatoid arthritis population that have not been able to even try many newer treatments due to the presence of other illnesses. Such patients must deal with more than one potentially life-shortening illness, and the realization that they are unable to reap the benefits of available treatments.
Avatar f tn My point is, the only test that she has tested positive for is HLA-B27, suggesting possible reactive arthritis. What are other diseases she could be suffering from, keeping in mind she has no lower spine pain? Her c-reactive protein spikes with inflammation, naturally. We tested all the Heps, Lyme, Lupus, RA factor ... all negative. Any thoughts? Thanks.
Avatar f tn My mum has been battling psoriatic arthritis for many years. Started in her big toe, and it now involves feet, knees, hips, and vertebrae in neck. She very nearly needed knee replacements on both sides, and was an big opioid user. Nothing controlled her pain, despite sulfasalazine, methotrexate, plaquenil, and heavy doses of oxycontin for pain, and a lot of illegal (bad for the liver...methotrexate is bad enough on the poor organ) tylenol.
Avatar f tn ve been on Enbrel for about 5 years and it has been an extremely good medication for both the psoriasis and the psoriatic arthritis. My concern is what am I going to do now that my husband is retired and my health insurance won't cover the cost. I live in Canada and the cost of this medication is approximately $22,000.00 a year which my husband's company insurance covered but now that he is retired, it will not cover the cost for my lifetime.
Avatar f tn last time i was on treatment, I had what felt like arthritis, but when I finished treatment it went away. it was the meds.
Avatar f tn t mean to frighten Enbrel users. For many ppl Enbrel is a wonderful medication that causes no serious side effects and brings great benefits. There are many testimonies that support it's effectiveness. However with any drug, (even Aspirin) that doesn't apply to 100% of the ppl. No one should discontinue any medication without first consulting their physician. I am hopeful your Rheumatologist will listen to your concerns and address them.
Avatar f tn Hi... I was diagnosed with ostearthritis & fibromyalgia a few years ago...and have been taking mobic since then, which has worked. About a month ago, the mobic didn't seem to be working as well.. my hands were hurting a lot at work... so I went back to my dr & he changed my medicine to relafen for the osteoarthritis & lyrica for the fibromyalgia. Although the lyrica seems to work, I'm not liking the side effects, puffy hands & feet & eye twitching...
