enbrel and psoriatic arthritis

ve been on Enbrel for about 5 years and it has been an extremely good medication for both the psoriasis and the psoriatic arthritis. My concern is what am I going to do now that my husband is retired and my health insurance won't cover the cost. I live in Canada and the cost of this medication is approximately $22,000.00 a year which my husband's company insurance covered but now that he is retired, it will not cover the cost for my lifetime.

I was diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis. I have normal blood results, no elevated numbers on test results. I have swelling and edema in right hand fingers and knees, I have some joint pain and some hives at times.No psoriasis on me. I am in my late twenties my doctor wants me to take embrel. I do not have typical back symptoms of this type of arthritis. I need a diagnosis, What could this be? I tend to get stressed and that causessome symptoms to be stronger.

I experienced muscle throbbing and pain near the end of treatment and apparently tx put my fibromyalgia symptoms over the edge and I was full blown fibro. A good rheumatologist is helping me manage my symptoms ...along with therapy and PT...hope this helps...

m jellylegs and from ireland, I was diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis last march after a long battle with leg weakness, pain and exhaustion that was being diagnosed as CFS but I knew ther was a lot more going on and pursued a diagnosis privatly.Am on sulphasalazine and in the last few weeks have added methotrexate but finding the side effects difficult to deal with so cant increase it yet. I am like you(bit older) in that I dont know anyone that has this condition either.

My dad has been taking Enbrel for several yrs for psoriatic arthritis. I realize this is not the same condition as yours, but it has helped him tremendously!

I have Psoriatic Arthritis and and losing faith that anything will help every symptom but if you have a doctor you feel comfortable with and you trust, I think as long as you persist together the two of you can find something to at least manage some symptoms. I am a 61 y/o woman diagnosed with psoratric arthritis when I was 18. Back then it was just in my knees, but now the only joints that are not affected are my elbows. (YIPEE. huh?) LOL About 10 years ago when the pain become quite bad and chronic, I managed with just mega doses of aspirin and the odd script from the doc for a mild pain med. I have now been through prednisone, methotrexate, Enbrel, Humara(Humira? sp) then back to Enbrel.......then nothing.

Actually is was helpful, thank you very much. I have been on the Enbrel for 10 weeks now and about 2 weeks ago the pain and stiffness from the AS was markedly improved. I also have ReA ( Reactive Arthritis ) and my hands, knees and toes do not seem to be any better, Like you I cannot tolerate methotrexate at all, it made me severely depressed and suicidal. When I was first dx I was given Ketoprophen which is just a RX anti-inflammatory but it worked wonders for me.

She saw the rhuematologist who said it was Psoriatic Arthritis and prescribed naprxen whic did not help then feldene which helped a little and now she will start taking methotrexate injections every week. There is also a small patch on my legs which is ignoring what ever I trow at it. But yes, Humira saved me as well as psoriatic arthritis that was developing too. I have had no complications with infections and I am so grateful. This disease is surely genetic with environmental predisposition and hope we finally nail it down for good.

I was just diagnosed with Psoriatic Arthritis and am currently only 39 years old. now need to decide on a medication and have been giving the chose between the infusion and giving myself shots. My doctors seems to be leaning toward Humira shots. The idea of giving myself shots for the rest of my life is very overwhelming. My mother gives herself shots, and wants the infusion, but cannot because she would have to change medicines and her Embrel is working so the Dr. wont switch her.

You mean Psoriatic Arthritis, correct? I have very mild psoriasis but I don't know anything about Psoriatic Arthritis except it is much more of a challenge then just having the skin disease. As far as treatment for Hep C, I can tell you that the PegInterferon and Ribivrin can cause a severe outbreak of psoriasis. I don't know if you experienced that when you were on treatment or not. But it is something to watch for, if you do decide to treat your HCV again in the future.

t control it, (according to the lady at the pregnancy risk hotline we talked to today) Rheumatoid ARthritis puts me at risk for still birth and preterm labor. She said the Enbrel can be taken up to one week before I deliver. Which is a miracle, really, because I have had such a horrible flare the last two days. And it's gotten bad REALLY fast. So I was all excited to be able to give myself an Enbrel shot - knowing how well it helps me.
