Enbrel and fungal infections

Common Questions and Answers about Enbrel and fungal infections

enbrel

When I was on Enbrel I never had a headache associated with the medication, but after about 8 years of being on a TNF inhibitor, I started getting some serious infections that made it so I had to stop the Enbrel completely and do with nothing for about 2 years for my RA. OUCH.
This includes minor infections (such as open cuts or sores), infections that come and go (such as cold sores) and chronic infections that do not go away. Also tell your doctor if you have or have ever had diabetes, human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) , acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS), or any other condition that affects your immune system.
Dr mentioned drug resistant bacteria and it was hard to get well last time. Was on IV anti-biotics for several weeks then oral. I use enbrel for RA and have for 6 years. It is all that works for me. Have many drug allergies--sulfa morphine among them. Can't tolerate nsids.or methetrexate.
Married, no children. Hypothyroid, RA and PCOS among my issues. I take enbrel for the P and RA, I also use taclonex or dovonex/steroid for the P. My body patches are small and manageable now -- limited to my underarms, belly button and lower back, at the tail of my spine. I have never found a working solution for my scalp. But considering the other issue, I can live with that. The other issue -- my groin/vagina. From the patch of hair, to the anus, I am all scale.
Also a diagnosed/treated e-coli UTI and a 2 weel oral fungal infection treatment. It's been a struggle determining the source and cleaning it up. Lgg type specific test at 16 weeks was negative but immune system issues related to RA is problematic when it comes to health issues and just looking for reassurance as to elimination of potential sources.
is quite severe now and we need to treat that and maybe the lungs will improve. I was on methothrexate and enbrel for a while, they don't know what caused this lung problem; the drugs or the R.A. So we are just in a holding pattern.
You are from OHIO, where the prevalence of histoplasmosis and blastomycosis ( from usually harmless fungal organisms in the environment) is high & frequently linked to lung nodule formation. In most cases no treatment is needed for these. Have it checked it out and see if this is actually what it is. Best wishes.
I have been on every drug they make for it and nothing worked for me. I started using Enbrel 4 weeks ago, an injection I give myself once a week. Based on the fact that he is HLA B27 positive and has gastro issues I think it is text book ReA. It is much more prevelant in men between 20 and 40. I am a woman and was 46, so go figure! Does he have swollen and stiff joints?
In my case they shut down my entire immune system and I had a multitude of infections similar to those of an aids paitent - including a life threatning fungal infection that necessitated a simi-permanent central line just below my neck and going to the cancer infusion center daily for nearly 6 months to get rid of the infections. I must stress THIS IS EXTREEMLY RARE and most people have no problem with those meds and they can be a life changer for most who use them.
I get this freezing feeling and it is at bedtime and I have an insanely hard time making it stop. I agree that for some of us it is the body fighting off an infection and almost the opposite of a fever. I often wake up feeling sick the next day. Sometimes pain relievers like tylenol has helped it and I am doing everything to boost my immune system...elderberry, astragalus, echinachea, probiotics, omega3s...I think these have been helping too. oddly I have some issues with my kidneys too!
I feel like my body's thermostat is broken and I'm constantly overheating. I've been taking Claritin and Benadryl but that doesn't seem to help at all. My doctor also gave me a prescription medicine called Atarax, which only makes me drowsy and doesn't help the itchy feeling. Any suggestions? Btw, I've taken blood tests to see if there is anything wrong but everything came out fine.
