PCR DNA test is not a diagnostic test. You took the ELISA to early. The window period is 3 months. Most people will test positive at 6-8 weeks. You will need to take a conclusive test at 3 months post exposure. This story sounds just like another guys that was posted recently.

My doctor gave me an dna pcr test along with an hiv1 direct p24 with elisa. My pcr came back negative in 7 days but now its after 8 days and I haven't got the results from the other one. I'm a little worried that the longer it takes is not a good sign. What is the average time for this test?

You don't say how long it was after your possible exposure. ELISA test can mean different things: 2nd generation, 3rd generation. So without this there's no way to tell what it means. Sorry.

There is a lot of new tests but elisa is just the type of test, there are 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th generation of elisas, and there continue to be a lot of research for new tests, the newest teste tend to be rapid test accurate as elsia tests, there has been also improvement also in the NAAT tests, and some labs are trying to come up with a new 5th generation rapid test (PCR+Antibody+p24) but is not ready yet.

Please tell me rapid test after 8 months from ur last risk is enough to have an 100% accurate result or how accurate are hiv rapid testing people here are talked about ELISA test but no information are available on rapid testing coz what upto my knowledge is rapid test take 15 min. to get the result and ELISA test give result in 5 days atleast i ment to say that long period result means more accurate test rather then test conducted in 15 or 20 minuts.

You have done 4th gen Elisa test, that's conclusive after 4 weeks. Only if you would have a immuundisorder (where you already would be in hospital for), end stage Cancer or PEP would could cause theoratical delay.(theoratically, because even then it's rare to cause delay) 6 month is for 2nd generation testing and 3 month for 3rd generation testing. Many govnerments haven't updated their guidelines because of their structure and caution positions.

well....how could i have a positive as long i am freakin' out thinking about it? i will not test, but the fact is you cannot give me a single argument that these symptoms are not ARS. just a single one. especially lymph.

Dear Doc (and forum readers), About a week or so ago I needed to get a medical check for work. When I got my results back, I was shocked to be told that the Elisa test came back as HIV reactive at 1.52. They tested it twice. I really have no idea what that number stands for, though. I don't have sex. No girlfriend. And I don't sleep with street workers. As far as I can remember, I have not come into contact with blood (except when killing mosquitoes).

ELISA is the antibody test used,its not a rapid test and takes time, how ever there are several rapid tests in the market and gives results almost in less than ten minuites, all antibody tests are very accurate, ELISA is a older version very reliable probably yours was elisa

So the test I had mentioned is conclusive at 4 months? Both tests I had were non reactive.

I had a risky encounter (well risky by paranoia standards) 6 months back. I waited for the long window period to get as accurate a test as possible and avoid false negatives. I walked into a hospital and got a test yesterday. The results say "anti-bodies to HIV - Non Reactive" with a reading of 0.274. The report classifies values within 0.9-0.99 as intermediate and values greater than 1 as reactive.

I took an Elisa test and it was positive and I took a Western Blot test and it was negative. The syphilis test was negative. So I am taking another Elisa, Western Blot and PCR test. What are my chances of these tests being positive???
