Avatar n tn With both diseases treatment for hep c with the standard drugs often worsens the autoimmune hepatitis. The autoimmune hepatitis is the result an immune response and interferon stimulates the immune system. And if you treat the autoimmune hepatitis then the immune suppressive drugs may worsen HCV. This makes it very difficult to treat or maybe "manage" would be a better word.
Avatar m tn Your antibody test, the ELISA test, will always remain positive because you will always have the antibodies (but not the virus) in your bloodstream even after you have attained Sustained Viral Response (cure). This is a normal response to being exposed to the disease. If we get vaccinations against diseases, we then carry antibodies to the diseases but we do not have the diseases.

Avatar f tn 160 dilution increases the specificity of the ANA test for the diagnosis of autoimmune diseases. ANTINUCLEAR ANTIBODIES TESTING A positive test for ANA may assist healthcare providers in establishing the diagnosis of an autoimmune disease and may help determine the specific type of autoimmune disease that is affecting a patient. A negative test for ANA may assist healthcare providers by decreasing the likelihood that a patient’s symptoms are caused by an autoimmune disease.
Avatar f tn I really would like to understand the meaning of so many positive antibodies and other issues for AIH and still the liver biopsy doesn't show that it is AIH (at least that is what I doctor told me). Anyway.. I will keep reseraching. Thanks again!!!
Avatar n tn I was dx with Lyme Disease finally by the test doctors trust which is the Western Blot, where as the ELISA serum blood test is usually rarely accurate in the Lyme Literate and Centers for Disease Control community. Even someone who has had severe lyme w/seizures, their ELISA serum blood test never came back positive. Good luck. Kris PS: Just realized this was posted 2008. What was the outcome if its ok I ask?
Avatar n tn His sonography suggested fatty liver, his endoscopy suggested hernia and all the blood test were normal except autoimmune hepatitis. Here in one of the tests, LC-1 (cystosolic antigen) was borderline positive. Can anyone explain me what does that mean.
Avatar n tn Conditions which can cause elevated ESR, CRP and positive pANCA and respond to steroid therapy could be temporal arteritis or giant cell arteritis. This is diagnosed by biopsy of a small part of blood vessel along with test for complements. The other possibility is vasculitis like panarteritis nodosa.
Avatar m tn however, due to the episodic nature of autoimmune diseases, it may be worthwhile to repeat the ANA test at a future date if symptoms persist. Aside from rare cases, further autoantibody (subset) testing is not necessary if a person has a negative ANA result. Is there anything else I should know? A number of drugs and some infections (such as chronic non-viral hepatitis, primary biliary cirrhosis) as well as other conditions mentioned above can give a false positive result for the ANA test.
Avatar f tn Getting a diagnosis of Hepatitis C (especially if a thorough explanation of the tests and diagnosis or possible diagnosis was not given) can be very traumatic. Many of us on the forum went through the same type of experience. I don't think doctors realize how traumatic it is to tell someone they have a very serious disease, especially if they fail to have a discussion about it.
Avatar n tn The chances of the antibody test being a false positive is less then 5%, especially if the test result is a high #. As mentioned above hopefully she is one of the lucky 15-20% and cleared the virus on her own.
Avatar f tn My doctor mentioned that sometimes with fatty liver the blood work will result in a false positive for PBC. I recently had blood work done for a possible overlap with autoimmune hepatitis, but that was negative.
Avatar n tn And it is good that the present test results are fine. While blood tests and liver biopsy are needed for the diagnosis, other considerations such as risk factors, symptoms and results of other tests are also important. It is important that you talk about this with your attending physician also for proper evaluation. Seeking another specialist's opinion may also help. Take care and do keep us posted.
Avatar n tn Finally had another ELISA test which turned out negative. I jumped the gun a little bit as my test was done 82 days post exposure. I was anxious to find out my hepatitis status since co-infection with hep C has been associated with delayed seroconversion so that's why I tested a little early. I thankfully tested negative for hep B and C as well. Are these results conclusive for being negative for HIV or do I need to get another ELISA again on 90 days post?
Avatar f tn The only association with HCV that I’m aware of is that doctors often use the ANA test to *rule out* autoimmune hep prior to treating patients for HCV; the treatment for one condition often exacerbates the other disease if co infection is present. It sounds as if your doctor is on the ball; hopefully, a biopsy sample will help complete the diagnosis. Here’s a good website to reference for blood test results: http://www.labtestsonline.org/ and more on the ASMA test: http://labtestsonline.
Avatar n tn 'Can I decrease the value of elisa?' No "Then what is meant by 1.775?" It means you are positive for hcv antibodies. A reactive antibody test does not necessarily mean a person still has Hepatitis C. Once people have been infected, they will always have antibodies in their blood. This is true if even if they have cleared the Hepatitis C virus.
Avatar n tn There are many different ELISA tests, so doctors must use one specifically for hepatitis C. The ELISA test will search the blood sample for the hepatitis C antibody. If any are found, this means that you might have HCV infection.
Avatar m tn If I am correct, you had Hepatitis B vaccination in the past. Your HBsAb has dropped below the protective level of 10 mIU/mL. As you doctor said, you are OK,si.
Avatar f tn Several of these physicians are leaning toward the possibility of lupus, lupoid hepatitis, or autoimmune hepatitis. To date, testing has ruled out viral hepatitis, ' ------------------------------- This is a discussion forum for those looking for info. and support regarding HCV.
