Elidel for seborrheic dermatitis

Common Questions and Answers about Elidel for seborrheic dermatitis

elidel

Avatar m tn I have Rosacea and seborrheic dermatitis also. But Elidel is for Eczema not Rosacea. Maybe he was using it off label for you? It does have some long term potential side effects. I would get another opinion. You may be getting rebound from going off of it. I am not sure if this drug does that. Cortisone definitely does. I use azaleic acid topical. It has worked for me for a long time. It is a prescription. You can also try low dose Doxycycline.
Avatar f tn Hello, From the symptoms and pictures it looks like perioral dermatitis and seborrheic dermatitis on the forehead. Seborrheic dermatitis is a common skin condition that causes flaky, dry, white to yellowish scales to form on oily areas esp. under the nose or anywhere on face. My sincere advice is to consult a dermatologist and get it evaluated. Diagnosis has to be confirmed first.
Avatar n tn Am I right in thinking that the lips are caused by having taken 40 mg a day of accutane for 5 mths up until April of 09, or could they be a result of my seborrheic dermatitis? I had the flaking on the lips before accutane but i was also using 400 mg a day of doxycycline for 4 yrs. prior to accutane so that could have been causing the dryness?
Avatar m tn the most common symptoms of atopic dermatitis are dry, itchy, red skin and seborrheic dermatitis causes flaky, dry, white to yellowish scales to form on oily areas. My sincere advice is to get a biopsy skin done from a dermatologist to confirm the diagnosis. I hope it helps. Take care and regards.
Avatar n tn m sorry to hear what you have been through for the past months. Seborrheic dermatitis is a chronic condition that can be controlled with treatment. The severity of seborrheic dermatitis can be lessened by controlling the risk factors and by proper skin care. Over-the-counter dandruff or medicated shampoos is usually indicated for the flaking. However, shampoos or lotions containing selenium, ketoconazole, or corticosteroids may be prescribed for severe cases.
Avatar n tn Thanks for sharing your story! I also have seborrheic dermatitis and fully understand the toll it takes on ones self esteem. In my case the flare ups were directly related to an overgrowth of yeast in my gut called Candida. Shampoos never worked for me so I cut all sugar out of my diet. Two weeks later I felt like a million bucks and the seborrhea was gone. It's a pain in the butt to eliminate sugar from your diet, but the outcome is amazing. Good luck, thanks again for sharing!
Avatar f tn It would be fair to say that the Elidel is able to suppress the atopic dermatitis. That is not the same as saying that one can use this drug indefinitely, for Elidel comes with adverse, toxic reactions of its own. I suggest that you discuss this issue with your doctor and that you request consultation for a second opinion from a Dermatologist regarding the best and safest way to proceed with management of your skin disorders at this time.
Avatar n tn t have used it for that long without seeing results! Was this too long for me to use Elidel if dermatitis is not really what I have; and if so, what could have this done in terms of damage to normal skin?
Avatar m tn Okay thanks, so then how long would you expect it to normally take for EpiCeram to work and completely clear the dermatitis, before I should turn to the Elidel? How about the Elidel?
Avatar n tn I was using it on naturally thin skin to treat what I thought was dermatitis. I have heard that it takes longer for Elidel to take effect compared to a low strength steroid cream, but exactly how long should you use it for, without noticing any improvement?
Avatar m tn It seems as though my condition has improved somewhat, but not completely and I am wondering whether or not I should try the Elidel now since I want to get this resolved faster! So I want to know if Elidel is really safe for the penis skin, since on the instructions it says not to get in eyes, vagina, mouth or rectum. Okay, so what happens if some gets down into my urethra since the area I am treating is right on my meatus (skin at pee-hole opening)?
Avatar n tn Okay, I know what Elidel is and that it is a non-steroidal treatment to dermatitis. However, I want to know if it thins the skin at all, to any extent? I read on the internet from multiple websites, that TCI's do not cause skin thinning or the side effects associated with steroid ointments, which is why it's usually used. However, one website stated that Elidel does not thin the skin "as much as" steroid creams do! So which is it for sure?

You can treat flaking and dryness with over-the-counter dandruff or medicated shampoos. Shampoo the hair vigorously and frequently (preferably daily). Active ingredients in these shampoos include salicylic acid, coal tar, zinc, resorcin, ketoconazole, or selenium.
Avatar m tn I was told by my dermo that I had Seborrheic dermatitis. It was dry itchy and scaly under my beard, in the nose folds, ears and eyebrows. I was given desonate gel to use for 2 weeks and things calmed down. However now I just have a redness itchy forehead. I put moisture cream o it and it doesnt really help. Is this still donsidered Seborrheic dermatitis? And would the desonate gel still be the right rx to use?

Avatar m tn To anyone who can help. I have had a really bad case of scalp Seborrheic dermatitis for the past several years. I have tried everything under the sun to get rid of it and nothing will work. I have tried every kind of oil and shampoos. It is covering my whole scalp and they are very thick scales that even makes my hair grow slow because it has to grow through these scales. This "bout" of Seborrheic dermatitis started about 5 years ago.

Avatar n tn What effect would two weeks use of Elidel have on normal skin on the head of the penis? I mean would it do any harm if used on thin skin with no actual dermatitis present; if so, then what would happen?
Avatar n tn I developed seborrheic dermatitis on my face that is mild and controlled by creams a couple of weeks after a sexual encounter with a woman of unknown hiv status. It is now several years later and SD is still with me off and on and I never had it before the encounter and I am experiencing no other symptoms. I have also had anxiety ever since the encounter and have gained 20lbs. When during the course of HIV infection when does SD usually occur?
Avatar f tn Low potency topical glucocorticoids are usually recommended first for the treatment of seborrheic dermatitis. These treatments are available in creams and lotions for the face. The topical steroid should be applied daily until the dermatitis improves; they can then be gradually discontinued. If it persists, it would be best to see your dermatologist for further evaluation and management. Take care and keep us posted.
Avatar n tn I was recently diagnosed with dermatitis by a local dermatologist and he prescribed me a topical medication called "Elidel", since he didn't think steroid creams were appropriate for the area of body that I am treating which has thin skin. Anyways, I have been using the Elidel for about 10 days now, and have NOT seen any noticable difference in my skin condition.
