Common Questions and Answers about Effexor zaps

effexor

Avatar m tn I have recently stopped Effexor XR (150mg) and started Emsam (6mg). I have been off the effexor for 5 days and I am having "brain zaps." My question is, how long will these "brain Zaps last?" I go to school, and need to be able to function. Please email me at ***@**** for any insight.
Avatar n tn I was on Effexor a few years ago and started having brain zaps when I went off of it (I was weaned), and to this day I still get brain zaps, always on the left side of my head, when my stress levels are or anxiety is high, and I usually get them around the same time every year from when I started taking the medication.
1423357 tn?1511085442 Day 7 off of Effexor. My wife reports the brain zaps completely disappeared on Day 6. She has backed off the Paxil dose to 25mg. She hope to continue reduce that to her prescribed daily dose of 20mg. What remains currently in fatigue and occasional nausea. I questions whether the nausea could be just an illness. But upon taking her daily dose in the evening, the nausea goes away. So within one week, she has successfully transitioned from 150mg. of Effexor to 25mg.
Avatar n tn I was on 150 mg of effexor xr for around two years. i tapered very slowly and had horrible headaches and brain zaps that were very very scary. While tapering my doctor put me on 20 mg of prozac and I think that helped somewhat. but three months later im still having occasional brain zaps Are these symptoms going to be permanent? im afraid that the effexor has done damage to my brain.
Avatar n tn When I go off of it I get these (electrical zaps, zings) in my ears and head. Is this what you mean by head zaps? I had to go from Effexor right to Citalopram 20mg. It's been 2 days on Citalopram and I am starting to hear these head zings. Should I ask for a larger dose or increase # of times I take it a day? I can't function with these zings going on.
Avatar n tn My doctor then advised me to stop taking the effexor for a week to see if the sexual side effects got any better which they did. I am now on day 5 of no effexor and i keep having these zaps or sensations running through my body. When will these stop? any help will be great. I am pretty scared about how long these could last.
Avatar f tn This will go away. The brain zaps quit with me first but the nausea stayed for awhile. Have the brain zaps quit for you yet? Hang in there, okay. We're here to support you. M4you always gives great advice. He was trying to explain to you why your having these withdrawal symptoms.Sometimes it helps to know why your going through what your going through.
Avatar f tn Thank You for your reply. I am trying to understand what exactly Efferor XR does or does not do. I have tapered myself off of this drug. I started the process in January of this year, 450mg per day then - to 75mg per day - until 0mg 7 days ago. It has been THE WORST experience of my life to date. The one thing that I want GONE are the "Brain Zaps". I have read that Effexor increases serotonin, I've been told that Effexor blocks serotonin.
Avatar f tn Effexor is hard to quit cold turkey but I did it with Cymbalta which is almost the same maybe even worse to withdrawn from. Anyway yeah expect brain zaps, mood swings and maybe episodic aggressiveness. My opinion on this is that you better quit cold turkey cause you will be off the med sooner even tho the withdrawal is terrible. You would probably get brain zaps anyway even when tapering off slowly. Good luck!
Avatar n tn Ive been on effexor for 2 years now it has worked great but now the doctor is weaning me off of it. I keep having brain shocks. I cant handle it. Do you think if I was switched to another anti deppressent that it would be better to wean myself off of that?

Avatar n tn ve tried Prozac, Zoloft (bad reaction), Effexor (helpful but made my migraines worse). I did a 7 day trial of Cymbalta but it was making me so dizzy that I was sitting in bed crying from the spins. I'm now on day 5 without it, and for some reason, I'm experiencing withdrawal symptoms: anxiety, brain zaps, feeling dizzy, nausea, intrusive thoughts and depression. Mind you, this anxiety is beyond what I experience. I also feel like I'm not "all there.
Avatar m tn Wow! I guess you really did get zapped. I had small brain zaps when I went off Effexor once. Nothing really bothersome, though. We all react differently.
Avatar n tn t put 2 and 2 together until I went through all the withdrawal symptoms last month while weaning off of the Effexor. During that time the brain zaps intensified! They quit going down my arm and leg, but got worse in my head and back. I don't remember whether I jerked or not, but I do know they would stop me in my tracks and I would jump from the shock of it. It's like when you accidently touch a live current. It did eventually go away. Thank God! As far as weight gain!!!!!!
1325908 tn?1274861128 t really say I ran across it I crashed into it, any body on the anti-depressant Effexor XR PLEASE go to www.fda.gov Put in Effexor XR in the search engine there. Information is there about Effexor XR. I found a pdf on a warning letter. This may not mean anything to you but it tells me that Wyeth tryed to pass this med off as a good medication and now those of us that are on it are having a hell of a time getting off of it.
Avatar f tn How long have you been off of Effexor and did your taper? Brain zaps can be a withdrawal symptom of Effexor. That's why I was asking the questions.
Avatar m tn I have Bipolar and have been recently taking Lithium Carbonate, Effexor XR, Geodon, and Klonopin. My psychatrist has been lowering my Effexor dose over the last few months. And I have been having issues with some dizziness with each decrease in dose. A little over two weeks ago, I took my last Effexor dose. Since then I've been having problems with severe vertigo, nausea, and "brain zaps.
Avatar f tn I have not taken Lexapro, but I have taken other SSRIs (Prozac, Effexor and Cymbalta). All of them caused the brain zaps. Effexor was the worst offender, and I tapered it ridiculously slowly, and the problem hung on for a very long time. At least I found out it was a withdrawal problem by them - after stopping Prozac I had the brain zaps and suspected I was getting multiple sclerosis or something.
Avatar f tn Hello, i count my blessings i feel so good atm, i decided to stop my Effexor 2 days ago. No brain zaps or confusion, nothing. I tapered very quickly from 225mg to 37.5mg in 12 days, then stayed on 37.5mg for around 9-10 weeks. I have been so lethargic and sick with sore bones almost daily for the whole 9-10 weeks. Within 32 hours of stopping, my energy came back, my mood lifted, i feel focused more than i have in a very long time. More importantly, ive stopped craving sweets !!!
704329 tn?1518523098 ve heard this more with Effexor than Paxil, what they used to do with Effexor was have the person take it twice per day to avoid the withdrawal from the rapidity with which it leaves the body. You might be having this reaction with Paxil. You might discuss dividing the dose in two with your psychiatrist.
Avatar f tn in the last few months I went from 150 mg Effexor to 75 mg.....tired and cranky all the time, thought it was the effexor....On July 12 doctor switched me from effexor 75 mg. to 20mg prozac...prozac made me rage...after 11 days of taking prozac, I quit taking everything (July 23rd). Now I am irritable, short tempered and very impatient with people....are these withdrawals or signs of needing to to back on another anti depressant.
Avatar m tn I am on day three of my second attempt to get off Effexor. I reduced from 225mg to 37.5 in 5 weeks and then hit the horrendous withdrawal that many have described. after 36 hours I took 37.5 and continued taking it for another 3 weeks. Doctor started me on Wellbutrin 3 weeks ago and I'm up to 200mg now. I am on my second attempt to get off this poison and while it is certainly better than the last time I am still really suffering. I WILL NOT take Effexor again.
Avatar n tn For the brain zaps, try fish oil. You can also try tapering more slowly.
Avatar n tn I stopped taking Effexor because it was so expensive and I don't have health insurance anymore. I also started taking Celexa and so far so good! Plus it is a lot cheaper!
477600 tn?1211421159 You are experiencing Effexor withdrawl symptoms. People who run out of Effexor have VERY bad experiences. GET YOUR MEDS NOW! CALL SOMEONE WHO CAN HELP YOU GET YOUR MEDS!
1544088 tn?1293661019 I feel for you. Do you have any Tramadol? Its made chemically similar to effexor so tricks the body into thinking it's getting Effexor. Unfortunately with this drug you just have to ride through the withdrawlds. I wasn;t able to do it which is why I was paying $400/month for 450mg Effexor XR (yes, that is well above the FDA limit, I had the devil of a practitioner prescribe it to me).
Avatar f tn just want to ask people there opinions on this drug is effexor best or effexor xr (xtended release)?
Avatar m tn I have just discovered this evening that I inadvertently discontinued my Effexor xr 300 mgm daily, nine days ago when I failed to add it to my two week medication docette. I had just made a change from taking the med at night to am. At the same I had people coming and going from my house due to a flood clean-up in my basement, which added stress and frustration to a normally very quiet home.
