I used to take 300Mgs a day of Effexor XR for 4 years (before it pooped out on me) Anyway there is something that you need to know about Effexor XR (Venlafaxine) that is that at or below the 150Mg dosage mark Effexor is simply just another SSRI and has no SNRI action. With Effexor the Norephineperine mechanism of action does not take place unless the patient is taking at least 225Mgs a day. In most cases 300Mgs a day.

I then took Effexor and later ther Effexor XR. Effexor XR allowed me to live a reasonably normal life raising a child and having a career. there is no generic for effexor XR only regular effexor, you are going to notice symptom of a kind of withdrawl, headaches, vertigo, this is the worst. I take effexor xr and if I miss a dose I feel terrible---call you doctor--alot of times the have samples that can get you through until you can get your money.

I was wondering if anyone has ever had negative side effects from drinking beer while on Effexor XR. I recently went on vacation and drank beer for 11 days straight. A few times I got pretty drunk. I was on effexor for 5 years and it sounds like your not on the right medication. I had the same effects and came off of effexor XR becuase of it. There lies another problem. Coming off of effexor XR is pretty rough. I have posted on it in the forums. Effexor is one drug that I would really look into before staying on it. I am not a Dr and not telling you what to do but if it were me and I were feeling like you are I would goto my DR. immediately and tell him how it was making me feel.

Hi, I live in England and my doctor gave me no choice but put me on to generic Venlafaxine. Now reading Hensley's reply, I am worried it will not help me. I was told it was exactly the same as Effexor XR. I was on Effexor XL before. I don't know what the difference is. Hensley knows so much about drugs. Hi there. I wanted to let you know that the highest FDA recommended dosage for Effexor XR is 300mg. So, I wonder what your husband's internist meant? Yes, they can increase the dosage if you are becoming too "adjusted" to that dosage, but in some cases it is best to just switch to another med altogether. I highly recommend seeing a Psychiatrist. These are MDs who are professionals in the area of psych meds and will know exactly what to do.

I am 51 and began taking Effexor XR 75 mg as prescribed by my physician to help reduce the hot flashes. I've taken this same level of Rx for 3 years. It has helped to reduce the hot flashes, however, I have other side effects that concern me. I will tell you a little known secret about Effexor XR. Below the 150Mg a day dosage Effexor is nothing but an SSRI and does not give Norephinepherine action unless the dosage is 150Mg a day and sometimes 225Mgs a day. Most people find relief on Effexor between 150 to 300mgs a day. If after 5 weeks on Effexor your still not feeling better don't be afrade to go up to 225Mgs a day. On the same note do not go above 500Mgs a day because that is the danger level.

I had been on Effexor XR (450mg) for a number of years. I was concerned about the dosage and shortly after switching doctors I went off the Effexor and began taking Pristiq.
