What is the maximum dosage for Effexor XR? Also, is it advisable to take with Lorazapham?

I'm on 150mg of Effexor XR, but I'm not sure if that's as a preventative or for my secondary depression. I've been on various doses over the years, but FOR ME 150mg is the best. However, EVERYBODY is different, and what I take shouldn't be any reason for you to take that same dosage. Trust your doc, as they'll know better than we will.

My copay has risen to $123/ month for the Effexor XR, so my doctor suggested we try Pristiq for the rebates to cut costs. I did as my MD sugessted and alternated 225 to 150 mg x 8 days before begining Pristiq at 50 mg. About 6 to 7 days after making the switch, I had maniac like symptoms (hyperalert, sexual,with a "tingling/buzzing" feeling.

Has anyone tried the generic for of the regular effexor. My insurance is way more the effexor xr. The regular effexor has a generic.

Ahh Pristiq, The new SSNRI. Actualy just a slight tweek on Effexor XR. Interesting fact about Pristiq..... Wyeth's newest Antidepressant medication Pristiq, is actually kind of a sister drug of Effexor XR. In fact in terms of the active ingrediants molecular structure they are about 98% the same. I am taking Effexor XR and it has been a lifesaver for me. I am on Arimidex and was having hot flashes and was depressed after breast cancer treatment. I had been on it before and stopped taking it without any problem. I know everybody is different. It sure helped me!!!

Now I have no insurance, meaning, I cannot pick up my Effexor XR, Levothroid, Zocor (for cholesteral)and also my trazadone for sleep. The only thing I was able to pick up was my xanax 1mg 2X daily. I have never taken an antidepressant before. At age 73 can I take Effexor XR 37.5 for the rest of my life so that I do not go through withdrawal having to stop?

I then took Effexor and later ther Effexor XR. Effexor XR allowed me to live a reasonably normal life raising a child and having a career. For at least 3 years my depression has slowly gotten progressively worse. My counselor and I believe it is time to add an additional medication, possibly welbutrin or change to a different antidepressant. Currently I take 300mg of effexor XR. Yes, the doctor is switching me to Cymbalta but only after I am off Effexor XR. He did not give me a detailed plan to discontinue Effexor XR. He told me to do it gradually. I just really need some more advice as to how much to decrease it per day, etc. I've been reading all the horrors of people getting off it and I'm becoming a little shaken by this. You may want to switch that generic Venlafaxine to Effexor XR and perhap talk to you doc about adding Lithium. Good thing about Lithium is even if you don't have Bi-polar, it will still help a lot as an add on medication for your Effexor XR. Generic Venlafaxine has no sustained release properties to it. This can pose a problem because it has such a short half life as atidepressants go. making the switch to Effexor XR and adding Lithium should make a world of difference.

I have taken Effexor XR for about 5 years, which followed a course of Paxil. The Paxil was preceded by a course of Zoloft. The anti-depressants were given to me because I have a physical disability with chronic pain, and anxiety that began at the same time as the pain. Anxiety was the worst, but as my life tanked from inability to do many things, the depression grew. Zoloft did not help much; I gained 60 lbs. on Paxil. When switching from Paxil to Effexor, I lost about 20 of the 60lbs.

i've been taking Effexor XR for almost 2 years now with 150mg a day. It's been fabulous and has always manage to control my anxiety and depression. On Monday 25 i came down with a fever and started to get really sick. On Wed 27th i was prescribed Rulide, and I took it asap. My daughter has been on Effexor XR 150 MG for about a year. She recently found out that her insurance would not pay for this medicine. Her Dr. put her on Zoloft without wheening her off of the Effexor XR. She is experience symptoms that include feeling very dizzy and nausea. I mentioned about switching from Effexor Xr 225mg (which on my own I lowered to 150mg) He said that Effexor XR affects two different areas of the body whereas Zoloft only affects one area. I hate to see you have to switch from Effexor XR if it was working well for you. You are correct that Celexa and Effexor XR are very different in terms of what neurotransmitters they effect in the brain. Celexa being an SSRI and Effexor XR being an SNRI. For depression has heavy symptoms of fatuge and exhaustion, then an SNRI is always a better bet becuase they tend to be more energizing.

Has your doctor prescribed this for you and said it's o.k.? I take 300 mg of Effexor XR every day, and .5mg of clonazepam in the morning, and 1 mg at bedtime, and I'm fine. He just recently added Wellbutrin to the regimen. I'm wondering why you are asking this. If you doctor prescribed this for you, he/she must feel it's safe for you to take. I'd like to know more. The dr gave me generic effexor xr to try instead of regular effexor xr.... i took them over the weekend, had a headache and was tired all weekend..... yesterday i decided to switch back to my reg effexor xr, and my head was clear, i didnt have that heavy tired feeling in my head....i got so much done yesterday i havent felt likethat in so long....today its back to that heavy tired feeling, i was so excited about that feeling yesterday........ how upsetting.....i want that feeling back....

While there is a generic extended release version of venlafaxine available, it is not exactly the same as the brand name (Because of the patent). The headaches you are experiencing may be caused by some of the inert ingredients in the generic brand. Knowing this, I would take the samples back to your Dr. and continue using the brand name since you already know it works for you.
