I am currently on Effexor XR 150MG twice a day. I also sometimes have to use Clonaxepam 1/2 mg before bedtime in order to try and get to sleep. Also Aprazolam once a day as needed. The issue is I was just laid off and I need to fine a generic alternaive to Effexor XR the current generic for it it still too expensive for my budget. I there anything in the SSRI class that you would recommened that i can start transition to?

I hate to see you have to switch from Effexor XR if it was working well for you. You are correct that Celexa and Effexor XR are very different in terms of what neurotransmitters they effect in the brain. Celexa being an SSRI and Effexor XR being an SNRI. For depression has heavy symptoms of fatuge and exhaustion, then an SNRI is always a better bet becuase they tend to be more energizing.

My daughter has been on Effexor XR 150 MG for about a year. She recently found out that her insurance would not pay for this medicine. Her Dr. put her on Zoloft without wheening her off of the Effexor XR. She is experience symptoms that include feeling very dizzy and nausea. Is this Dr. correct prescribing her this new medicine without slowly wheening her off of the Effexor XR. Are these symptoms due to her going "Cold Turkey" with the Effexor XR? Please advised.

Has anyone tried the generic for of the regular effexor. My insurance is way more the effexor xr. The regular effexor has a generic.

Hi, I have GAD and took lexapro and generic lexapro for almost 9 years before it stopped working for me. My doc put me on effexor xr on May 5 and I feel as though my anxiety has gotten worse. She has recommended we double the dose to 150 mgs . I am looking for advice as to whether I should continue on this path. I want so much for this to work ! Any thoughts? Thank you so much! Anyone has this experience and then had improvement? Looking for any and all positive feedback!

I started Effexor XR about 4 days ago. So far it's been somewhat similar for the initial stage as other SSRI's, though maybe with a touch more anxiety. The last time I was on an SSRI (first time on an SNRI now), was a few months back. I'm also taking .5mg of clonazepam, and 20mg of propanolol, along with the 75mg of Effexor XR. I take all of them once per day, in the morning when I wake up (my peak anxiety time).

Hi, I have begun Effexor Xr 37.5 mg. for basic anxiety- I worry alot.. I have gone on/ off for years, the stigma of being on meds. gets to me. I am a healthy, school teacher and am not depressed.. more like a cat on a hot tin roof, worry about alot, especially my health (not really a hypocondriac, but close!). I have had weird things happen like a virus of some sort that made my liver enzymes go out of whack.. so, 6 months of blood work, ultrasounds on liver etc..

I stopped taking Effexor XR four months ago and I've been on Citalopram for the past 2 months. It's not helping and I want to go back to Effexor which helped me a lot more. For both meds I had to go through a month of hell before they started to work. Will I need another month for Effexor to start working again or will my body remember it and therefore will allow it to start working straight away?

I am on my third day off going cold turkey off of Effexor XR 150mg x2 daily. It is the most awful feeling in the world! I have taken the Fish OIl today for the first time and it did nothing for me. Docotrs should NOT give this crap to their patients!! It shouldn't be MADE!! AWFUL AWFUL things I have learned. WHAT can I do to help myself??? I pray ALL day. I can't be around anyone. What is the difference between Effexor and Effexor XR? Are the dosages usually the same for both meds?

I went to the pdoc and told him I was interested in trying the new Pristiq, he said it was longer lasting, which is a good thing in my book, but he said thats all he knows about the drug, I was stunned he didnt know any other information!!! So he told me to just stop taking my Effexor xr of .75mg x 3 pills a day and start taking pristiq .

I am been taking 300 mg of Effexor XR for approximately two years continuously. I now must stop cold turkey for I recently lost my prescription coverage insurance. I know the symptoms but have never stopped taking without being "weened" of the med. Are there any other symptoms that might be more serious that I should be aware? Is it true that withdrawing from Effexor can be life threating?

Paxil began losing effectiveness and after seven years, doctors tried new medications like Lexapro which was less helpful. Finally I began Effexor, then Effexor XR, then increasing the dose last year. Though depression bleeds through occassionally, (feels more like the blues than a dark suicidal hole), I think I'm doing very well on Effexor XR 150 mg. But I can not help but wonder .... Will I eventually need 225mg? What will it take after that?

Hi, I live in England and my doctor gave me no choice but put me on to generic Venlafaxine. Now reading Hensley's reply, I am worried it will not help me. I was told it was exactly the same as Effexor XR. I was on Effexor XL before. I don't know what the difference is. Hensley knows so much about drugs. I know nothing, just trust my doctor to put me on one he thinks will help me. Didn't know I could ask him to put me on the proper drug not the generic.

I then took Effexor and later ther Effexor XR. Effexor XR allowed me to live a reasonably normal life raising a child and having a career. For at least 3 years my depression has slowly gotten progressively worse. My counselor and I believe it is time to add an additional medication, possibly welbutrin or change to a different antidepressant. Currently I take 300mg of effexor XR. This is the same level I have taken for the entire time I've used effexor. I would like input and advice.

If you are taking the Effexor XR you need to continue with it.the same dosage. The XR means it has an extended release and you get a leveled dose all day long. Changing to a regular form of effexor/venlafaxine would give you a one-time shot of the drug. I can't help with the pricing. Good Luck!

I think you can consult your shrink if you could shift to effexor tabs instead of effexor xr capsules wich you can taper it gradually! FYI effexor xr in long treatments cause increase in cholestrol levels and increase blood pressure as well !

i've been taking Effexor XR for almost 2 years now with 150mg a day. It's been fabulous and has always manage to control my anxiety and depression. On Monday 25 i came down with a fever and started to get really sick. On Wed 27th i was prescribed Rulide, and I took it asap. By Friday morning i was suffering from bad anxiety attacks in the morning, weird and just disturbing dreams in the morning, and a sense of low self worth and depression.

I mentioned about switching from Effexor Xr 225mg (which on my own I lowered to 150mg) He said that Effexor XR affects two different areas of the body whereas Zoloft only affects one area. Now he mentioned NOTHING about keep taking the Effexor Xr in lower does while I make hte switch to Zoloft. Am I supposed to just switch right over to Zoloft and discontinue the Effexor Xr??

One option (if your Effexor is failing) is to add Eskalith 450 to the Effexor XR. Adding Eskalith gives Effexor more punch and may give you another couple years from Effexor. I did this and I was able to squeze another 2 years from Effexor at the same 300MG a day dosage that was failing prior to that. Just some ideas to talk to you doc about.

I have been on effexor xr for 1 year and am trying to come off. I am weaning myself slowly but have terrible headaches and dizziness. How long does this last. I can handle if if I know how long it will take.
