m just a bit younger but similar history. Ex drinker and smoker. Effexor on and off over last 10 years. Memory issues? Usually around names and small things like that. Frustrating but no big deal. Yet. It's with things I see on Tv etc. You know the face but can't get the name. So have to race to the PC to Google the movie to see what the name is etc.
Is that Effexor? I don't think so.
I searched about the effect of effexor on memory loss and I found it lowers acetylecholine level in the brain.
Then I thought to take acetylecholinesterase inhibitor as donepezil but I'm not sure about its role in my case.
Now I do not know what to do. I hope you could help me.
How can I get rid of this annoying symptom memory loss?
and can i take any medication to enhance my memory?
Please help me , my life now is hopeless..
I am 51 and began taking Effexor XR 75 mg as prescribed by my physician to help reduce the hot flashes. I've taken this same level of Rx for 3 years. It has helped to reduce the hot flashes, however, I have other side effects that concern me. I am now trying to wean myself off the Effexor and the side effects are significant (vertigo, confusion...) and the hot flashes seem worse than ever! Is there anything I can do to reduce or eliminate these without antidepressants?
Hi, I'm a 45 year male, that has been on antidepressants since I was 15 years old. Lately (over the lasts 6 months) I have been experiencing, extreme loss of short term memory. I'll be watching a tv show, it goes to commercial and I have absolutely no idea what program I was watching. When, say doing some bookkeeping, I will look at an invoice, and when I go to input the invoice # or what ever I have to go back to the invoice, sometimes 2 to 4 times...
I am having bad problems with depression - but I am also having bad short term memory loss, concentration difficulties and some word mixups- spelling like a 2nd grader in some instances.
This is very bad- I am really messing up at work. I cant remember what or if I just took a med- what number I just dialed. I once had short term memory loss from prednisone years ago- this seems like that sort of. I've NEVER had this from depression- gasp. anybody had this kind of thing?
Earlier this year while on my regular daily dose of 150 I started to notice a feeling feeling lightheadedness with some loss on concentration and memory. This was the same feeling I would get if I missed 2 consecuative days while on the 150per day.
I decided to get off the med because it appeared to me that my brain wanted more med to to the same job, or addiction.
I have been on Effexor XR for probably 5 years now and am taking 150mg daily. For quite a while now I have been experiencing word-finding problems. Simple words and names that I may use on a daily basis are just lost and it takes considerable thought to remember the simplest thing. I also am not able to concentrate on school work very well. I don't no if its just me or the medicine because I have been on it for so long. I also just do not feel as smart and bright as I used to.
i switched to 37.5 mg effexor xr because of my decreased libido. after several months, i feel generally anxious again, as if i've had caffeine. the other thing i've noticed is a decreased memory for names, places, etc. can you tell me what is causing this, and how can i get relief from this anxiety? it makes me irritable and otherwise unable to function optimally. i am 49 yrs old, and female. thank you very much.
I have been on meds for bi-polar and have developed tremors and memory loss (phone #, SS# etc plus other). I have gotten off the meds, been a few days, and am scared that this will be a permanent change. Friends who hadn't seen me in months, came over recently and were shocked and concerned about me, telling me that I seemed like a zombie. I was taking Effexor xr 150 mg and I became pregnant. I immediately stopped use. I later found out my baby would probably not make it at birth. Well, I gave birth and like they said he had birth defects and the cause was unknown. His bones did not develop properly and his chest was too small for his lings to grow. All of his bones were not formed correctly and they said for some reason when he was conceived the cell that forms bones just did not form. Could effexor xr be the reason?
Im 47, born in 1963, weigh about 140lb,female, on Effexor xr, and alergic to sulfa. I left the part about drug alergies blank when i filled out my profile though. But anyhow no wonder you are still sch a worry wart, that dose is to low. I was on 75mg for years and finally uped it to 150 and became much more confident, allot less worried . You really need to up that dose. I didnt realize the xr came in 37.5. But keep me posted on what you decide.
yes bev i have been on effexor xr since 2001 and i gained a tremendous amount of weight and then my thyroid bit the dust so now i'm on meds for that. i'm hoping that will help me lose weight. it's really hard. but this profuse sweating is just awful. i'm in texas and it's already been 100 many days. i am just wondering if there is something herbal or ANYTHING that would decrease the sweating. i drink tons of water a day.
did tell me very vague about the Effexor XR and that Pristiq was its cousin. Now, I will say that when I was on Effexor XR I had horrible leg cramps to the point I couldn't move. They put me on rls meds. When I got off the Effexor my leg cramps stopped. I still have leg tremors, but nothing like before.

Ahh Pristiq, The new SSNRI. Actualy just a slight tweek on Effexor XR.
Interesting fact about Pristiq..... Wyeth's newest Antidepressant medication Pristiq, is actually kind of a sister drug of Effexor XR. In fact in terms of the active ingrediants molecular structure they are about 98% the same.
You know why the Drug Company Wyeth would produce a drug so much like Effexor XR?
