603543 tn?1255294450 My dr gave me samples of generic effexor xr the other day to try, over the weekend i took them and had the most awful headaches...Im so afraid to take them now..Ayone heard anything about these?
Avatar n tn I heard that the patent was up and this means that it should be avalible in a generic formula that is the same as Effexor XR. If not then you doctor should have no problem writing you a script for the name brand Effexor XR. Just call him and say "hello doc, thatks for the generic Venlafaxine, but I prefer name brand Effexor XR." He should have no problem with this at all. Same drug slightly different release action.
309783 tn?1271958229 (Same as in Effexor XR) The patent on Effexor XR ran out about 8 months ago and now other pharm companies can make generic extended release Effexor. In the last 7 years Effexor XR has made Weith Pharm company 3.5 Billion dollars per year. That Billion not Million. Now you can see why other pharm companies are so eager to get their generic version to market. For 5 of those 7 years Weiths Effexor XR was the top selling antidepressant drug in the world. There is a reason for this.
Avatar n tn Im 47, born in 1963, weigh about 140lb,female, on Effexor xr, and alergic to sulfa. I left the part about drug alergies blank when i filled out my profile though. But anyhow no wonder you are still sch a worry wart, that dose is to low. I was on 75mg for years and finally uped it to 150 and became much more confident, allot less worried . You really need to up that dose. I didnt realize the xr came in 37.5. But keep me posted on what you decide.
Avatar m tn Been on Effexor XR for maybe 4yrs and recently rec. venlafaxine instead via mailorder. I assumed Effexor XR must have just gone generic. I have been on venlafaxine for about 3 weeks and just do not feel "right". Very tired- especially around 2-3 pm and started gaining weight again. Originally gained 30lbs until added Wellbutrin 300mg to the Effexor. Also my mind is not as sharp, having more headaches, bloated stomach and crabby.
Avatar n tn there is no generic for effexor XR only regular effexor, you are going to notice symptom of a kind of withdrawl, headaches, vertigo, this is the worst. I take effexor xr and if I miss a dose I feel terrible---call you doctor--alot of times the have samples that can get you through until you can get your money.
Avatar n tn which brand of generic Effexor XR is chemically closest to the brand name Drug, the drug compound & the capsule
603543 tn?1255294450 I hate to see you have to switch from Effexor XR if it was working well for you. You are correct that Celexa and Effexor XR are very different in terms of what neurotransmitters they effect in the brain. Celexa being an SSRI and Effexor XR being an SNRI. For depression has heavy symptoms of fatuge and exhaustion, then an SNRI is always a better bet becuase they tend to be more energizing.
Avatar m tn Has anyone tried the generic for of the regular effexor. My insurance is way more the effexor xr. The regular effexor has a generic.
603543 tn?1255294450 The dr gave me generic effexor xr to try instead of regular effexor xr.... i took them over the weekend, had a headache and was tired all weekend..... yesterday i decided to switch back to my reg effexor xr, and my head was clear, i didnt have that heavy tired feeling in my head....i got so much done yesterday i havent felt likethat in so long....today its back to that heavy tired feeling, i was so excited about that feeling yesterday........ how upsetting.....i want that feeling back....
1378325 tn?1285346625 I was told my my pharmacist that Effexor XR and the generic is made my the same manufacture. The price is the same to me under my medicare plan except less money is applied toward the medicare "gap" so I choose the generic. Insurance is such a scam. If it were you or me we would be up on racketeering charges. Pharmaceuticals have big bank accounts and politicians have deep pockets.
1302779 tn?1287405029 Hely all I was on celexa 40 mg for around 6 months and my doc switched me to cymbalta celexa was an ssri and cybalta is an snri. I have no problem with the switch except cybalta doesnt come in generic which my insurance only pays for generic drugs but "effexor " does. has anyone have experience with effexor?
Avatar f tn I tried Pristiq in an attempt to help with menopausal symptoms. I was (and am) on Effexor XR, and Pristiq is almost identical to Effexor XR. I think the only difference is in their molecules. I didn't find Pristiq any better (for me) than Effexor XR, so I went back to Effexor XR. I wish you the best of luck with it. I hope it works for you.
Avatar n tn Ahh Pristiq, The new SSNRI. Actualy just a slight tweek on Effexor XR. Interesting fact about Pristiq..... Wyeth's newest Antidepressant medication Pristiq, is actually kind of a sister drug of Effexor XR. In fact in terms of the active ingrediants molecular structure they are about 98% the same. You know why the Drug Company Wyeth would produce a drug so much like Effexor XR?
Avatar n tn The whole antidepressant weight gain or loss issue is still a big debate. On one hand scientific studies show that SSRI and SNRI medications do not alter the bodies metabolism, on the other hand you see reports by people saying they gained weight on them. In the last 16 years I have taken nearly every SSRI and SNRI medication on the market and did not experience weight gain or loss on any of them. Now, obviously I am about 25Lbs heavier than I was when I was in my 20s.
534618 tn?1213454476 Some new developments on Effexor... regular Effexor has gone generic! I was shocked to get my prescription for my minimum copay! Only downside - no generic Effexor XR. Today's my first day on the regular Effexor, so I'll let everyone know how it goes. One thing I heard today that I hadn't heard before: Effexor withdrawl/weaning symptoms can be severe enough to land you in the hospital. Yikes!
Avatar n tn put her on Zoloft without wheening her off of the Effexor XR. She is experience symptoms that include feeling very dizzy and nausea. Is this Dr. correct prescribing her this new medicine without slowly wheening her off of the Effexor XR. Are these symptoms due to her going "Cold Turkey" with the Effexor XR? Please advised.
Avatar f tn Um, I don't think there is a generic effexor, and if there ws, I don't know how much cheaper it would be. I heared in the USA it is STUPIDLY expensive. As far as I know nothing will keep you from going through the withdrawl, sorry. When I went off it I went through a week of hell and several weeks lost in the outskirts of hell.
Avatar n tn I have been on Effexor XR 150 mg for 4 years and due to the cost and effect on my libido, I have started withdrawal, first tapered to 75 mg for 30 days, now on 37.5 for 15 days, then everyother day, and to continue till I'm done. Well in talking to my pharmacist she said she has seen violent reactions when people stop suddenly. My mood swings are terrible and I'm suprised my husband hasn't locked me up. I get angry, moody, incredibally sad.
Avatar f tn Hi, I have GAD and took lexapro and generic lexapro for almost 9 years before it stopped working for me. My doc put me on effexor xr on May 5 and I feel as though my anxiety has gotten worse. She has recommended we double the dose to 150 mgs . I am looking for advice as to whether I should continue on this path. I want so much for this to work ! Any thoughts? Thank you so much! Anyone has this experience and then had improvement? Looking for any and all positive feedback!
Avatar m tn My insurance carrier recently switched my prescription coverage from the Brand Name of Effexor XR to the newly available Generic. I have noticed that my depression is getting worse, my anxiety is off the scale and I am falling back into very bad self-harming, self-destructive behavior. At the same time that this was switched, I was also taken off of Celexa (10mg daily) which was being used as an add-on treatment for the Effexor. We stopped the Celexa due to severe bruising and nose bleeds.
Avatar f tn Hi. I know this is an older thread but I have a question. I am on Effexor xr ( generic). I started at 37.5 with the doctor saying he was going to 75 mg if I tolerated well. Well, little by littte we have had to keep ramping up and now I am 181.5 mg. That was 7 days ago. I know he said he doesn't want to go to the next higher dose which is 225. It seems like I get one good week and then start to relapse. Makes me wonder if this the drug for me.
Avatar f tn In January, my MD directed me on how to wean myself from Effexor XR...so I could begin a generic form of Celexa. My God. If this is what withdrawal is like, I am fortunate that I never abused drugs. Hot flashes and sweats; the zinging in my head that I've read others describing, crying, nausea. Happily, the drug-related constipation has ended. Dizzyness and then a BAD migraine - and a ride from work to the ER. I tapered off with weekly decreases...dropped to 150mg for one week...
Avatar n tn Yes, I would also recommend that you consult with your doctor. I would ask about taking the Effexor XR pills which are timed to last the full 24 hours. So I wouldn't think in that case it should matter. But be sure to tell your doctor about your sleepiness. Maybe just reducing the dose could help you. I always took less than 150mg.
Avatar f tn hi i am on 3 weeks today taking 150mg effexor xr and not feeling any different is this the normal thing
