Effexor xr and blood pressure

Common Questions and Answers about Effexor xr and blood pressure

effexor

I went off effexor xr years ago because it was raising my blood pressure and it wasn't easy. I turned into a very mean person for the two weeks I was weaning off of it. It was kind of scary because I got kind of violent and if my sister didn't know why she wouldn't have understood. Any way, my doc told me how to taper off by reducing my dose and using my clonazepam for anxiety feelings during that time.
My Dr threatened to put me on blood pressure meds because it was above normal the whole time I was on this med. And when it quit working it was a nightmare. I'm very happy for the people that can get any kind of relief from meds and or counseling. I take it that the original poster was not made aware of possible withdrawal. For some people like me, it can take months.
Regular cardio exercise 4-5 times a week is a better way of healing yourself than taking these ******** medications for the rest of your life. And Effexor will raise your blood pressure. You need to ask yourself do you want to take these medications forever, or do you want to live a happy lifestyle without using these overrated antidepressants. Just do the best you can when you get off this drug. Each week that passes will get better and better without this medication in your system.
I am currently doing research for an upcoming book which deals with the side effects and withdrawals people have experienced from Effexor XR and other (like) anti-depressants. I am interested in receiving any information current or former users would like to share concerning their experiences with these drugs. Please email me @: beach-***@**** and thanks!
It can cause headache, nausea, dry mouth, sweating, sleepiness or insomnia, and diarrhea or constipation and loss of libido. It can also cause increased or lowered blood pressure, sweating, anorexia, twitching and shock-like sensations. Also remember that as you lower the dose you are also lowering the side effects directly attributable to the medication. Regards.
Hello iam new here I am taking tramadol 50 mgs, neurontin 300mg,hydrocodon-acetaminoph,a pain patch of 25mcg/hr and cymbalta 90 mg. And my Dr. Wants me to take effexor xr 75mg in lu of cymbalta (the cymbalta was given to me by a shrink for pain control) but I am told that effexor xr n tramadol don't mix.
Effexor is known to increase blood pressure and so is Zyrtec-D, not plain Zyrtec. The D component of Zyrtec-D is pseudoephedrine and any product with that ingredient (Sudafed, Claritin-D) is not recommended with patients who have hypertension or increased ocular pressure (increased pressure in the eyes). The reason is because the pseudoephedrine constricts the blood vessels and as a result increases pressure. Effexor as well increases blood pressure due to how the medication works.
Do you believe withdrawal from Effexor XR caused my blood pressure to sky-rocket? 2. Did Effexor XR permanently elevate my blood pressure? 3. Will my blood pressure eventually return to my baseline of 110/70? 4. How long will these "zingers" last? Thanks for listening !!
Hi im currently trying to wean off of Effexor xr 150mg a day, im taking 113.5mg a day at the moment and have been for about a week. Im 26 weeks pregnant and wanted to be weaned off due to breastfeeding concerns. I have been having the worst headaches and im wondering if there is anything i can do and if it is caused by the weaning? also should i be concerned about any further side effects from withdrawl?
Could you please tell me if anyone else has numbness in their face, arms, legs, or hands while on Effexor XR 150? I just started using the higher doseage about a month ago and have noticed all kinds of side effects, the above as well as a very stiff neck and tightness in the hands, along with a mild redness in the hands, spotted I would call it. Also, I was diagnosed with severe Rheumoid Arthritis about 5 years ago after having a spinal tap.
Under my doctor's supervisor I was to decrease my Effoxor by 75 mg every 2 weeks, while starting on low dosages of Zoloft. I have high blood pressure and kidney disease and my doctor wanted me off Effexor XR as it can raise your blood pressure. Zoloft does not affect blood pressure. My withdrawal symtoms are: Full body night sweats to the point I have to change my PJ's one to two times a night. I have experienced soft BM's about 4 times a day, along with some stomach cramping.
Paxil and Effexor are the two drugs notorious for this withdrawl.
I noticed when I was tapering my blood pressure went even higher and so did my heart rate. That's one of the reasons I was quitting this med in the first place, because of my blood pressure. It went back to normal once I was completely done tapering. I would recommend not drinking alcohol at all until your done tapering off the effexor. Take care.
Previously I had been being paced often and had had several hospital admissions for low blood pressure, high blood pressure and heart rhythm issues.
I can relate to those w/d symptoms. I too tried a while back to stop my effexor. Didn't go CT, but tried the taper. Got down to 37.5 every other day, but I realized it just wasn't time for me to come off of it. I realize i may have to take it the rest of my life and have come to terms with that. I also sought counseling to deal with why i had the depression (me too stemming back to childhood). While i have made huge improvements in the area, I just need it.
Some that are very med sensitive can find this low dosage enough to do the trick, but in mosts cases dosages between 75 and 225Mgs a day are more common. I took Effexor XR 300Mgs a day for 4 years and in that time it was very effective, as I was failing to respond to SSRI's. You will hear a lot of Effexor bashing on the forum. People tend to only post the negitive. Fact is that all AD medications have some level of withdrawl effect should you stop, even with a slow taper.
I think you can consult your shrink if you could shift to effexor tabs instead of effexor xr capsules wich you can taper it gradually! FYI effexor xr in long treatments cause increase in cholestrol levels and increase blood pressure as well !
My psych doc wants me off of Effexor XR due to my issues with high blood pressure. I was on 75mg/day for a little over 2 years (with an increase to 150 and then back to 75mg). I am also on Lamictal, Lithium, and Seroquel - hence another reason to get off of it. I am on day 4 of the withdrawal from Effexor and I feel horrible. I have extreme vertigo, cold sweats, and of course the crazy crying for no reason. I would have been on day 6, but my mother convinced me to take a little to feel better.
Also, the physical withdrawals are painful and it feels like you have the flu. Since Effexor XR effects blood pressure, she could expereice a severe drop. The withdrawal will last at least a month. It is NOT a good situation for her to be in. The only way to get off Effexor safely is to taper. Cold turkey is too dangerous since it leads to volatile emotions. Please encourage her to take at least a half of her normal dose to get her a little comfortable.
I'm not on any medications that would cause high blood pressure besides Effexor, and I'm 26 years old, and it's ALWAYS been fine until TODAY. So, my GP told me to quit taking the effexor (and that I should wean, if need be) and started me on Lexapro, 10mg, RIGHT AWAY. Take the full 10mg of Lex -- it's a mild dose, and the dose that works for most people.
First, my heart goes out to all who have posted their stories of horrible withdrawal symptoms as a result of discontinuing usage of Effexor XR. I started on Effexor XR about ten months ago due to severe depression and anxiety. Just over two weeks ago, I started to wean myself off of my maximum daily dosage of 112.5 mg. For 8 days, I took 75 mg per day, and then lowered it to 37.5 mg for another 8 days.
My libido became non-existent, I was gained weight, my digestive system seemed out-of-wack, and I'm not sure that it helped my anxiety. I'm not sure it was related to the Effexor XR, but I was bruising very easily, and I was obsessive about spending and "projects" during this time. I should also mention that I am on 30 mg of Adderall XR for ADD. My Dr. decided to switch me to Wellbutrin XR which would also help me quit smoking.
I've been off of my effexor xr for about 5 days now and after talking to my pharmacist and doing some of my own research, ginger seems to help greatly with dizziness and nausea. Here is a link for the effects of ginger and how to take it. I've been chewing a 1/4" piece of peeled, fresh ginger every 4 hours and it is working miracles. Here is the link <a href=http://www.umm.edu/altmed/ConsHerbs/Gingerch.
She checked her palm pilot for side effects and said there was not data showing shortness of breath as a side effect and ended up sending me home with a prescription for Effexor XR 150mg. I went home and typed in EFFEXOR and shortness of breath and thank God I did because there were many sites addressing this issue. I called my MHFNP back on Friday to try and advise her I saw this on the internet.
5mg now because it didn't work great for me and it skyrocketed my blood pressure. I am starting Prozac 20mg and decreasing the Effexor. Here's the thing. What do you mean by muscle twitches? Are they involuntary? Because I have voluntary muscle twitching that I just noticed as I began decreasing the effexor. Mine is an uncontrollable feeling that I need to tighten my muscles. I tighten them quickly, like a twitch to eliminate this feeling.
i had to stop because i lost my insurance . and it gave me high blood pressure. and my kidneys were in pain. now my blood pressure is better my kidneys feel better. and now hell has set in for while. can anyone tell me if this has happened to them.
I recently quit taking effexor cold turkey and have had a horrible time of it. I am tired and grumpy and felt like I was depressed even though I know I am not. That medecine is horrible for your mind and body. I have had to take half doses so I can walk around and function but let me tell you, in a few weeks, I will NEVER EVER take it again. The withdrawal is phenomonally horrendous. I wonder how strong of a medication it is to make me feel this way now.
But Nexium makes you gain weight and your blood pressure climbs and they start in on the Cartia, but all of this stuff causes depression and lethargy, so they start you in the psychotropic meds. WHO DO THESE PEOPLE THINK THEY ARE, GIVING US A DOZEN MEDICATIONS??? They certainly aren't healing anybody. Read Kevin Trudeau's new book, The truth THEY don't want you to know about. It will blow your mind. I read it 2 weeks ago, and it just blew me away.
I am currently starting the withdraw from Effexor. I told my doctor that's what I wanted to do and she offered no advice to me. She did give me a sample pac of Effexor which has 75 mg. in it and 37 mg in it. I was taking 150mg. So I have started taking the 75 mg and will decrease to the 37 mg. Please tell me what I need to do in addition to that. I take calcium blockers for high blood pressure.
One option (if your Effexor is failing) is to add Eskalith 450 to the Effexor XR. Adding Eskalith gives Effexor more punch and may give you another couple years from Effexor. I did this and I was able to squeze another 2 years from Effexor at the same 300MG a day dosage that was failing prior to that. Just some ideas to talk to you doc about.
