effexor xr and blood pressure

Hello, I have been taking Effexor XR 150mg for 5 years now for severe panic disorder. My blood pressure has been giving me a fit lately, and my doctor noticed where Effexor can cause higher blood pressures. Today, he switched me from Effexor to Celexa, which is good because I was never completely happy with Effexor anyway. However, he said that I can stop the Effexor cold turkey and go straight to the Celexa. Is this correct?

did tell me very vague about the Effexor XR and that Pristiq was its cousin. Now, I will say that when I was on Effexor XR I had horrible leg cramps to the point I couldn't move. They put me on rls meds. When I got off the Effexor my leg cramps stopped. I still have leg tremors, but nothing like before. Anyway, Thank you for the infor.

does Effexor XR cause there to be an increase in eye pressure? I seem to recall having read that but cannot find any information at this time. If it is not the medication causing an increase in pressure what could be the cause? This is both eyes having had trabs and both with elevated pressure.

I called the pdoc back and he's having me take a 75 effexor xr and my pristiq 50---I guess a ween off of it, no more brain zaps for now, I dont know what will happen after I stop taking effexor all together, we shall see in a few weeks. As for the comment above, I too have seen people have to pay out of pocket for perscriptions and its usually elderly and people like me, who had been laid off and take medications and are put into a situation of having to pay out of pocket, what to do?

One option (if your Effexor is failing) is to add Eskalith 450 to the Effexor XR. Adding Eskalith gives Effexor more punch and may give you another couple years from Effexor. I did this and I was able to squeze another 2 years from Effexor at the same 300MG a day dosage that was failing prior to that. Just some ideas to talk to you doc about.

Forgot about the packaging info, and since my shrink never said a word about monitoring my blood pressure, didn't think it was the drug. Well now I know better, and I am willing to join a class action suit against Wyeth for this horrible, supposedly non-addictive drug, coming off it is worse than heroin! Anyone interested? Im 47, born in 1963, weigh about 140lb,female, on Effexor xr, and alergic to sulfa. I left the part about drug alergies blank when i filled out my profile though. But anyhow no wonder you are still sch a worry wart, that dose is to low. I was on 75mg for years and finally uped it to 150 and became much more confident, allot less worried . You really need to up that dose. I didnt realize the xr came in 37.5. But keep me posted on what you decide.

First of all I would like to say I'm so sorry that you lost your Father. Don't ty to go cold turkey off this med again, it's just too hard to do. Tapering like your doing is the best thing to do. If I remember correctly your not supposed to drink while on effexor. I noticed when I was tapering my blood pressure went even higher and so did my heart rate. That's one of the reasons I was quitting this med in the first place, because of my blood pressure.

Hello iam new here I am taking tramadol 50 mgs,neurontin 300mg,hydrocodon-acetaminoph,a pain patch of 25mcg/hr and cymbalta 90 mg. And my Dr. Wants me to take effexor xr 75mg in lu of cymbalta (the cymbalta was given to me by a shrink for pain control) but I am told that effexor xr n tramadol don't mix.

I went off effexor xr years ago because it was raising my blood pressure and it wasn't easy. I turned into a very mean person for the two weeks I was weaning off of it. It was kind of scary because I got kind of violent and if my sister didn't know why she wouldn't have understood. Any way, my doc told me how to taper off by reducing my dose and using my clonazepam for anxiety feelings during that time.

You may want to switch that generic Venlafaxine to Effexor XR and perhap talk to you doc about adding Lithium. Good thing about Lithium is even if you don't have Bi-polar, it will still help a lot as an add on medication for your Effexor XR. Generic Venlafaxine has no sustained release properties to it. This can pose a problem because it has such a short half life as atidepressants go. making the switch to Effexor XR and adding Lithium should make a world of difference.

I hate to see you have to switch from Effexor XR if it was working well for you. You are correct that Celexa and Effexor XR are very different in terms of what neurotransmitters they effect in the brain. Celexa being an SSRI and Effexor XR being an SNRI. For depression has heavy symptoms of fatuge and exhaustion, then an SNRI is always a better bet becuase they tend to be more energizing.

I have been totally off effexor xr 75mg for 15 days. I have had all the withdrawal symptoms mentioned...pure hell! I am trying to train for a 5K which I used to do 6 years ago before effexor. I find myself having more bad training sessions than good. I have been experiencing dizziness with a heavinress or tightness in the chest. Pulse is normally low in the 50s but does manage to get into the low 60s with training. Blood pressure remains unchanged.

Can I take Tramodol with Effexor XR, Clonazepam, Trazadone, Lunesta, Gabapentin, Hydroxyzine. I am on all these medications for clinical depression and panic/anxiety disorder. But now I was recommended to take Tramodol for pain. Will there be a bad interaction with the drugs I just named? I would like to know each drug I have listed seperately and it's interaction with tramodol. Example....Can I take Effexor XR with Tramodol? Can I take Clonazepam with Tramodol?? Etc. ect.

yes bev i have been on effexor xr since 2001 and i gained a tremendous amount of weight and then my thyroid bit the dust so now i'm on meds for that. i'm hoping that will help me lose weight. it's really hard. but this profuse sweating is just awful. i'm in texas and it's already been 100 many days. i am just wondering if there is something herbal or ANYTHING that would decrease the sweating. i drink tons of water a day.

I think I will ask my Doctor to try me on some of the meds to see if I can see a difference but am afraid because i have high blood pressure. Has there been any cases of misdiagnosis of depression and it be ADD instead? When I try to do any task it overwhelms me to the point of quitting, I am always tired , can't sleep, cry alot, low self esteem, emotionally eat etc. I certainly haven't been myself in years. Depression meds stop the emotional part but do not help with anything else.

Ahh Pristiq, The new SSNRI. Actualy just a slight tweek on Effexor XR. Interesting fact about Pristiq..... Wyeth's newest Antidepressant medication Pristiq, is actually kind of a sister drug of Effexor XR. In fact in terms of the active ingrediants molecular structure they are about 98% the same. You know why the Drug Company Wyeth would produce a drug so much like Effexor XR?

Since then I went from having low blood pressure to high. About three days ago I stopped taking it because of this. My blood pressure is back to normal but for last two days, am having terrible withdrawl symptoms. Should I start taking it again until I can get to see my doctor? Or how long will this last?

t have high blood pressure (and I have a family history of that). And my menstrual cycle last 2-4 days, so I guess I was lucky with that. I am starting week 2 today without any effexor in my body. The side effects of withdrawals started 3-4 weeks ago while weening off, but they became unbearable one week ago when I was completely off. I just wish I had a date that I would feel better so i could see the end of the tunnel.

Hi im currently trying to wean off of Effexor xr 150mg a day, im taking 113.5mg a day at the moment and have been for about a week. Im 26 weeks pregnant and wanted to be weaned off due to breastfeeding concerns. I have been having the worst headaches and im wondering if there is anything i can do and if it is caused by the weaning? also should i be concerned about any further side effects from withdrawl?
