Effexor withdrawal stories

Common Questions and Answers about Effexor withdrawal stories

effexor

Avatar f tn I was hoping I could start a generic drug that may lessen the effexor withdrawal symptoms. Although, I cant afford even a doctors visit at this point. I will get insurance through work come Nov. 1.
Avatar m tn I have read tons of stories about how bad Effexor withdrawal is but is it possible that you can experience no withdrawals at all? My 20 year old son has been on it for 6 months. The dr. Has gradually increased him from 37.5mg to now 300 mg. my son feels worse then he did when he was on Zoloft. We see his dr. on Monday and we plan on requesting he be taken off and to try something else.
Avatar m tn Thank you...
Avatar m tn I started effexor 5weeks ago, it seems to be working great for me and has really changed my life..... treating my depression symptoms etc. I read all these horror stories about this medication. Does anybody else have anything good to say about it? Zoloft stopped working for me, Paxil and Lexapro dont work for me so this Med has been treating my symptoms fine, then I read these effexor horror stories and it sounds like I'm taking the "Devil Pill".
190673 tn?1259203266 I read dozens of horror stories about effexor withdrawal and that definitely contributed to it. However I believe it was both withdrawal symptoms and "fear symptoms". Brain zaps was from withdrawal and anxiety was from fear. Im back on 150 and felt great within 2 hour of taking it. Since this medication comes in capsules only and they are 37.5 the smallest, is there anything that can be done for those who can't tolerate withdrawal at all.
Avatar m tn I, personally, like Effexor. After being on Effexor XR for about 7-8 years, my psychiatrist switched me to Pristiq (which is Effexor Lite) last year because it was cheaper for me to get than the Effexor was. I can tell you this, it is the best medication for me. I'd been on Prozac, Paxil, Celexa, Zoloft, and some old-school MAOI's. But nothing, nothing, worked as well as the Effexor for my anxiety disorder.
Avatar m tn Hello everyone, I am new on this type of forums. I started taking 37.5mg of Effexor on November 2010 for Anxiety. 3 weeks ago I was up to 75mg but I didnt like the way it made me feel. On 4/29/11 I went back to 37.5mg but I want to stop the medication as I dont think I need it any more. There are other anxiety medications out there that are not benzos and work well (Buspar).
1450085 tn?1298941702 My psychiatrist switched me from Effexor to Pristiq and believe me I was scared to death! I'd heard nothing but horror stories about coming off Effexor and I can not stress to you how afraid I was! My doseages were a little different. I had been taking 150mg of Effexor and switched down to 50mg of Pristiq. I am happy to report no withdrawal symptoms at all, even though my doseage was lowered considerably.
Avatar n tn I was on Effexor (Venlafaxin) for over a year- 75mg... two months ago my Dr doubled my dose because the depression symptoms were coming back and he thought it was possible I had built up a tolerance.... So then 150 mg of the POISON !!! Immediately I developed an itchy rash of what seems like acne all over my back, chest, shoulders, arms and stomach as well as my scalp (under my hair). It has itched and refused to heal for a month and a half.
Avatar f tn Has anyone ever heard of, or been on, the combination of 40mg Prozac, 30mg Dexedrine, and 4-6mg Ativan daily? I was on this for 7 years, along with narcotics for terrible migraines. Been drug free for 3 years with no depression, but man...was it awful getting off all that stuff! Would love to hear from anyone with this combo or hear any stories about Zoloft, Prozac, & Effexor side effects and withdrawals.
Avatar f tn I am recently pregnant and withdrawing from effexor. my dr has me on 50mg of zoloft but these withdrawal symptoms are really starting to annoy me. I am missing work today because of them. my head feels like it's short-circuiting, i'm exhausted, and i can't focus (due to the buzzing in my head). i didn't quit cold-turkey, i tapered off this past week. Today is ten times worse than 3 days ago (1st day without effexor). how long does this last?
Avatar m tn I have only been on it a month, and I hate it yet I have heard horror stories of people not being able to get off it cause the withdrawal symptoms are so bad. Does anyone have any advice?
Avatar f tn ve never taken Effexor but have read the withdrawal is pretty bad. The Effexor needs to get out of your system first to start feeling better and you may possibly feel more depressed before the Prozac kicks in.
Avatar n tn I switched from effexor to wellbutrin. I had to be on both medications at the same time for a long time because of the effexor withdrawal... it was so hard to come off the effexor, I was at the lowest dose for a very long time, 25mg, because I couldn't get off of it the withdrawal symptoms were too bad for me.
Avatar f tn The brain zaps aren't damaging your brain. It's the drug being stopped that's causing them. Here's what's believed to be responsible for this: serotonin-targeting antidepressants alter the natural way the body breaks down used serotonin, allowing it to wash in targeted receptors longer. Other receptors turn off, the brain not believing them to be necessary anymore.
Avatar f tn So I have been suffering from depression for a a few years now. its on and off but mostly on around this time of year when school gets tougher and the days get darker and colder. I was on citroplam in the summer for a few weeks and while they helped my mood, they didn't help my anxiety which is the main problem. my doctor prescribed exeffor but i was afraid of going on it. Now that im starting to feel blue again i thought why not.
Avatar m tn If it is Effexor withdrawal, what could a neurologist do about it? And if the psychatrist is right, what else could it be?
Avatar f tn I have been off Effexor for about 5 months now. I stopped cold-turkey per my doctor's instruction (BIG mistake!). I thought once I was over the initial withdrawal, I would be fine; BUT I only had a couple weeks of feeling o.k. before I started experiencing all sorts of problems. I started with muscle weakness and pain in my calves and stomach pain directly below my rib cage. It then progressed to my arms and now my voice is even weak. Everything is bilateral.
Avatar m tn You suffered withdrawal from missing your Effexor dose. This med should be tapered off of slowly, as should virtually all of these kind of meds. Even tapering slowly you may suffer some withdrawal. It's normal, though uncomfortable. I don't know if there's a generic for Effexor, maybe the doc will know.
Avatar m tn Anyway, yes there is a way to get off Effexor without most if not all the withdrawal issues. The most effective way was to take to Effexor back up to a dose the did not give them the withdrawal side effects, that ADD 20mg of Prozac to the mix for 4 weeks. then and only then we would start slowly step down off of the Effexor 37.5mg a week until off. Then after one month more cut Prozac back to 10mg for two more weeks then go completely dry.
Avatar n tn Hey Opus, No you don't HAVE to wean off anything to go onto something else. This is a way to ensure safety is the main object. I've made it clear this is my habit for the purpose of knowing which drug does what. If you mix then you have no idea at all what is causing what. The habit was introduced to me by my long term pdoc who likes to know what is going on, as I do. If you have 4 drugs in your system, as this poster does, how would he or she know what is what?
Avatar f tn I spoke with my doctor and tapered off the dosage of effexor and started on Prozac to help with the withdrawal symptoms. I took my last 1/4 pill of 37.5 effexor 1 week ago. I have been so sick, unable to eat, drink, crying, phobic, scared, nauseated and unable to function. I am really worried about my job as I have been emotional there and unable to do my job properly. Yesturday I felt that I just couldn't get through it, drove to work but don't know how I did it.
Avatar f tn Withdrawal from Effexor can be brutal. I don't remeber being shor of breath though. are you out of breath when lying down or during the day too?
Avatar m tn would not take lexapro and effexor together. for effexor withdrawal i take omega3 fish oil caps twice a day//benadryl as needed for dizzyness\\ b12 sublingualtwice a day\\st. johns wort twice a day// vitamin d3 twice a day ---ibuprofen(motrin) as needed for muscle pain. as far as i am concerned, i will never take a prescription rx. for anxiety and depression again. i also have ptsd. i am sticking to st. johns wort and omega 3 fish oil caps. both will treat depression.
Avatar f tn It may be that you need an anti-depressant. I wasn't aware that the withdrawal could go on for so long, but it could be. I went off Effexor very gradually over many months. I had none of the withdrawal symptoms, but then I could not stop crying for a month. It was clear that I needed the Effexor. If you have had depression for awhile before you first went on the Effexor, you probably do need an anti-depressant.
