Effexor withdrawal problems

Common Questions and Answers about Effexor withdrawal problems

effexor

Avatar f tn Did you stop the Effexor abruptly, of do a slow taper off it? Effexor is one of the most difficult of all antidepressants to stop taking without significant withdrawal, and taking another drug won't most likely help with that withdrawal because no two of these drugs work exactly the same, and these drugs are not even in the same class of drugs.
Avatar f tn I am on day 7 of Effexor withdrawal, I quit cold turkey. My dose was 225 mg. I am having diarrhea after every meal, vision problems and trouble sitting still. Also I am very tired. The only time I feel o.k. is when I am eating or outside running. Where do I go from here?
Avatar f tn I did not have this problem w/withdrawal from Effexor but that does not mean it's a symptom. Anytime someone has problems breathing, they need to get in touch with their doctor, could be something else causing this.
Avatar n tn 3) Is it better to go back to Effexor since I was not having problems. I was looking for a better anti depressant for depression and restless legs. And go off Effexor more slowly.
Avatar m tn I have Bipolar and have been recently taking Lithium Carbonate, Effexor XR, Geodon, and Klonopin. My psychatrist has been lowering my Effexor dose over the last few months. And I have been having issues with some dizziness with each decrease in dose. A little over two weeks ago, I took my last Effexor dose. Since then I've been having problems with severe vertigo, nausea, and "brain zaps.
Avatar f tn After last week I thought I was free and clear and over the Withdrawals of stopping effexor. Is my symptoms still related to withdrawal or am I going CRAZY? I been taking Prozac 20mg that my doctor gave me to help with the side effect of withdrawal but still feeling really bad.
Avatar f tn I am becomming more aware of the fact that more people who have been on effexor are ending up with thyroid problems after the effexor use where there was no thyroid probem before use of effexor. This is my case and it is difficult to understand what I am suffering from most now as the effects of being on effexor are much like a thyroid gone bad. And since I stopped effexor and all antideppresson drugs almost 7 months ago. However now I feel effexor withdrawls are worse.
Avatar m tn would not take lexapro and effexor together. for effexor withdrawal i take omega3 fish oil caps twice a day//benadryl as needed for dizzyness\\ b12 sublingualtwice a day\\st. johns wort twice a day// vitamin d3 twice a day ---ibuprofen(motrin) as needed for muscle pain. as far as i am concerned, i will never take a prescription rx. for anxiety and depression again. i also have ptsd. i am sticking to st. johns wort and omega 3 fish oil caps. both will treat depression.
Avatar n tn I previously experience HORRIBLE side effects from sudden withdrawal of effexor. I had palpitations, pounding heart, profuse sweating, and jerking motions of arms and legs (seizure-like). So I was off it in a month and put on Celexa. My Rx co-pay went from $48 per month to $4 at Wal-Mat. I'm a happy camper.
Avatar n tn Effexor and Zoloft are two different meds. Yes, I think it would have helped if her Dr would have weaned her off the Effexor. What she's going through is withdrawal from the Effexor. Can she ask her Dr if he has any samples of the Effexor so she can wean off of it? I'm really not sure if she can take these two meds together or not. She may have to wean and then go on the Zoloft.
Avatar n tn The fact you need more Ativan can indicate the stimulating effects of Effexor are not agreeing with you, or it can be a withdrawal effect. No way to know. You are also starting out on a high dose of Effexor, unless you tapered up to that level. Usually the safest way to stop a drug is to taper off of it as slowly as you need to and the safest way to start a drug is to taper up as slowly as you need to.
Avatar f tn no, i went several months trying natural things like 5htp and omega oils. i do think it's much easier going from one antidepressant to another. i went from paxil to effexor with no problems, now i'm back on paxil. if you start the celexa then the withdrawal will probably go away. for me effexor was the worse antidepressant i've ever taken. if you take celexa i hope it works for you. take care.
534854 tn?1234076108 It is clear now that the companies must have known that a certain proportion of these patients re-randomised to placebo, who subsequently complained of depressive and anxiety symptoms, will have been suffering from withdrawal problems. These withdrawal problems however appear to have been used as a basis for claiming that continued SSRI intake had a prophylactic effect against nervous and depressive problems.
Avatar f tn I spoke with my doctor and tapered off the dosage of effexor and started on Prozac to help with the withdrawal symptoms. I took my last 1/4 pill of 37.5 effexor 1 week ago. I have been so sick, unable to eat, drink, crying, phobic, scared, nauseated and unable to function. I am really worried about my job as I have been emotional there and unable to do my job properly. Yesturday I felt that I just couldn't get through it, drove to work but don't know how I did it.
1423357 tn?1511085442 Her oncologist placed on the SNRI Effexor. Getting off Paxil and onto Effexor had some problems. She slowly ramped down on the Paxil BEFORE starting the Effexor. There were episodes of crying for no reason and several weeks of other slightly odd behavior before things smoothed out. But my wife says she has never felt as good as being on Paxil. So our physician has suggested that she return to Paxil.
Avatar n tn I switched from effexor to wellbutrin. I had to be on both medications at the same time for a long time because of the effexor withdrawal... it was so hard to come off the effexor, I was at the lowest dose for a very long time, 25mg, because I couldn't get off of it the withdrawal symptoms were too bad for me.
Avatar n tn t working, but there you go. Some people go through withdrawal and get problems they never had before, such as depressed people ending up with anxiety attacks and vice versa. But they're not technically addictive, so the drug companies don't have to advertise them that way, and most people do get off them without tremendous difficulty. Not comforting when you're one of the many who don't.
530150 tn?1284658880 I have had problems with vision, blurred and spotty, on and off through discontinuation of Effexor...have read this to be common with withdrawal process. I am feeling terrible at best but am so hopeful and ready to be done with Effexor...I begged my doctor not to prescribe it to others without sharing some of the horrible side effects with them of the withdrawal process that is possible, with tapering off process.
Avatar f tn It is a withdrawal symptom of antidepressants for some people, as it's hard for some of us to live without the drug once we get used to it. Since you've been on it for a long time, it can take a long time for the brain to adapt back to working normally.
647120 tn?1256601651 This is a very individual thing, but in some cases tramadol may increase the effect of serotonin re-uptake inhibitors, such as Effexor - this might have made for a tougher withdrawal. If your original dose of Effexor was above 150mg/day, you may also have been getting (beneficial) norepinephrine re-uptake inhibition effects from Effexor prior to withdrawal.
Avatar f tn t taken most of them. I did take Effexor for a while, but had to go off of it b/c of digestive problems. But wanted to let you know that I completely understand the anxiety disorder. I've ended up in the ER b/c of an anxiety attack before. The thing with anxiety attacks is that if you start worrying about having one you will. I have had them in the local grocery store, my bank, and at Wal-Mart. Simply trying to go back into those places sent me into major panic attacks.
Avatar f tn now as i sit here on my 4th day of effexor withdrawal im left with racing thoughts, crippling physical effects and no one to turn to. ever since i was a young child i've dealt with depression and anxiety. it wasnt until i was in junior high that my parents decided to try therapy and medication for me. it took me several different doctors until i finally found one that truly felt had helped me.
