Common Questions and Answers about Effexor withdrawal plan

effexor

530150 tn?1284658880 Yes, the doctor is switching me to Cymbalta but only after I am off Effexor XR. He did not give me a detailed plan to discontinue Effexor XR. He told me to do it gradually. I just really need some more advice as to how much to decrease it per day, etc. I've been reading all the horrors of people getting off it and I'm becoming a little shaken by this. Thank you so much for your support.
Avatar n tn I'm guessing you're suffering Effexor withdrawal, not Cymbalta withdrawal. It's not impossible to get a withdrawal from a short stay on a med, but unlikely. Sometimes a med just affects someone more profoundly than one would expect. But given you just came off Effexor, that being one of the hardest meds to stop taking and one that can have long withdrawals, I'm guess you didn't successfully stop it slowly enough to prevent withdrawals.
Avatar m tn I have read tons of stories about how bad Effexor withdrawal is but is it possible that you can experience no withdrawals at all? My 20 year old son has been on it for 6 months. The dr. Has gradually increased him from 37.5mg to now 300 mg. my son feels worse then he did when he was on Zoloft. We see his dr. on Monday and we plan on requesting he be taken off and to try something else.
Avatar m tn I went through the same thing when I got off Effexor... I stopped taking is cold turkey but luckily i was only on 75mg for about a year after being on 275g for four years. the withdrawal was the worst thing ever... it lasted for about two weeks. And after i was glad to finally be off of it. i was dissociated and confused for most of the two weeks. I didn't go to the ER or go to a doctor.
1423357 tn?1511085442 My wife is concerned about the withdrawal effects of the sudden stopping of Effexor, and has asked me to ask the group if anyone has done this switch on an immediate basis. Any advice you can offer is appreciated.
Avatar n tn Actually, Effexor can be taken safely together with Lexapro. In fact many P-docs perscribe the two in combination. If your goal is to eliminate the Effexor than my suggestion would be to VERY slowly taper the Effexor down, while starting the Lexapro immidiatly. Don't rush the Effexor taper because you can take the Lexapro while reducing the Effexor. No worry about any adverse reaction between mixing the two.
Avatar n tn I am amazed by the comments in this forum. I am a recent Effexor withdrawal side effect victim in need of help. I was also tapered from the Effexor XR 150mg over a couple weeks to 75mg then to 37.5mg. My final dose was on Sunday. On Monday, my whole body felt DIFFERENT. Something was not right. I thought that I was coming down with the flu or something....until I found this website. AMAZING.....those were the same symptoms I am having that others were talking about.
Avatar n tn I switched from effexor to wellbutrin. I had to be on both medications at the same time for a long time because of the effexor withdrawal... it was so hard to come off the effexor, I was at the lowest dose for a very long time, 25mg, because I couldn't get off of it the withdrawal symptoms were too bad for me.
190673 tn?1259203266 I am weaning off effexor very slowly. But I started to feel depressed. I wanna quit because of sexual side effects. Is it normal to fee llittle depressed during withdrawal?
Avatar m tn I took Effexor XR while I was preganant. I was on 225mg. I reduced the dose in the first trimester to about 175mg. I am not majorly bipolar or have any major issues other than having depression over some childhood sexual abuse and anxiety. I had been taking the Effexor XR among a million other things when I found I was pregnant. I went through 3 months of withdrawal. I was taking clonazepam for my panic attacks. I was on so many stupid drugs I didn't need.
Avatar m tn If it is Effexor withdrawal, what could a neurologist do about it? And if the psychatrist is right, what else could it be?
Avatar m tn Hello everyone, I am 22 and I have severe anxiety and panic attacks, I was on Luvox since 2006 and it helped me out tremendously, but this year it felt like it was starting to wear off, I went to my pdoc and she gave me this demon anti depressant ''effexor XR'' and at first I didn't really feel much from it, but I have been on it a month and it has helped my depression out and put my mood up a bit but my anxiety and panic attacks have been the worst they have ever been so bad
Avatar f tn The doctor put me on Zoloft 50 mg 2 tab day and 2 tabs evening starting from one tab and tappering off effexor plan. I took zoloft fot about 1&1/2 month but I did not feel god, Now my doctor has changed me to seroxat cr 25mg. The details are as follow: Date: 6th April 2015 Tab Zoloft 50mg (7 Days) 2 tab day + 2 tab nigjht 1 tab day + 2 tab nigjht 1 tab day +1 tab nigjht 0+1 tab nigjht Rivotril 0.
Avatar f tn I then took Effexor and later ther Effexor XR. Effexor XR allowed me to live a reasonably normal life raising a child and having a career. For at least 3 years my depression has slowly gotten progressively worse. My counselor and I believe it is time to add an additional medication, possibly welbutrin or change to a different antidepressant. Currently I take 300mg of effexor XR. This is the same level I have taken for the entire time I've used effexor. I would like input and advice.
Avatar m tn I can honestly say that I would rather have anxiety attacks any day then have to go through the withdrawal symptoms associated with effexor. I have been on many medications and have never ever had to do deal with such withdrawal symptoms as effexor.. I think it is discusting how doctors just put you on these medications without telling you what the withdrawal is like.
Avatar f tn I am a 36 year old single mother of three. I have been on Effexor ER for close to 8 years. I like most people had been started on Effexor due to increasing depression, anxiety and mood swings following a hysterectomy with the removal of ovaries also. (also on HRT ) I was started on 35mg for a few days then it was upped to 75mg. Over the next year it was increased to 150mg.
Avatar m tn You suffered withdrawal from missing your Effexor dose. This med should be tapered off of slowly, as should virtually all of these kind of meds. Even tapering slowly you may suffer some withdrawal. It's normal, though uncomfortable. I don't know if there's a generic for Effexor, maybe the doc will know.
Avatar m tn Anyway, yes there is a way to get off Effexor without most if not all the withdrawal issues. The most effective way was to take to Effexor back up to a dose the did not give them the withdrawal side effects, that ADD 20mg of Prozac to the mix for 4 weeks. then and only then we would start slowly step down off of the Effexor 37.5mg a week until off. Then after one month more cut Prozac back to 10mg for two more weeks then go completely dry.
Avatar f tn I have taken the effexor and felt the terrible withdrawal symptoms of taking it. I should of done a taper but I didn't and I didn't go onto another mood stabilizer right away either. So at least you have a backup plan. It seems like it took a month to get the effexor out of my system. It was rough. Perhaps, that is what is happening to you. Replacing it with something else is a good idea but it takes a couple of weeks to start working.
Avatar n tn Hey Opus, No you don't HAVE to wean off anything to go onto something else. This is a way to ensure safety is the main object. I've made it clear this is my habit for the purpose of knowing which drug does what. If you mix then you have no idea at all what is causing what. The habit was introduced to me by my long term pdoc who likes to know what is going on, as I do. If you have 4 drugs in your system, as this poster does, how would he or she know what is what?
Avatar f tn I spoke with my doctor and tapered off the dosage of effexor and started on Prozac to help with the withdrawal symptoms. I took my last 1/4 pill of 37.5 effexor 1 week ago. I have been so sick, unable to eat, drink, crying, phobic, scared, nauseated and unable to function. I am really worried about my job as I have been emotional there and unable to do my job properly. Yesturday I felt that I just couldn't get through it, drove to work but don't know how I did it.
Avatar f tn Withdrawal from Effexor can be brutal. I don't remeber being shor of breath though. are you out of breath when lying down or during the day too?
Avatar m tn Hi I am on Effexor XR 150mg, and it has done wonders for me. I started on 75mg and went on to 150mg after 2 months. Yes withdrawal is difficult, as I did stop it at one timne, but within a year my depression came back, so I started it again. Now I am calm with no depression, anxiety or panics. I feel so well. We all react differently to mnedication, some suit us, others dont. I have found the one that suits me. Let us know how you get on with psychiatrist.
