Common Questions and Answers about Effexor withdrawal joint pain

effexor

Avatar m tn After a day of brain zaps, vertigo, nausea, dizziness, irritability, mood swings (happy to throwing things in less than 5 mins), having a short fuse, body aches, teeth sensitivity, joint pain and gassiness, I decided to take some natural supplements to help with the withdrawal symptoms. For me personally, the brain zaps were the worse by far. I felt like I had an electrical storm in my head.
611559 tn?1233776445 The anti-depressants were given to me because I have a physical disability with chronic pain, and anxiety that began at the same time as the pain. Anxiety was the worst, but as my life tanked from inability to do many things, the depression grew. Zoloft did not help much; I gained 60 lbs. on Paxil. When switching from Paxil to Effexor, I lost about 20 of the 60lbs. Effexor was given to me at 75 mg per day; then to 150 mg. of Effexor per day in a.m.
530150 tn?1284658880 I have had problems with vision, blurred and spotty, on and off through discontinuation of Effexor...have read this to be common with withdrawal process. I am feeling terrible at best but am so hopeful and ready to be done with Effexor...I begged my doctor not to prescribe it to others without sharing some of the horrible side effects with them of the withdrawal process that is possible, with tapering off process.
Avatar f tn m not sure Cymbalta is better for pain control than Effexor anyway. Cymbalta is the same class of medication and got certified by FDA for pain control to keep its patent alive longer, but it doesn't treat the source of pain, it just makes people not care as much. I believe the successor drug to Effexor, Pristiq, has also gotten certified for this purpose, so again I'm guessing that Effexor may be just as effective at controlling pain.
Avatar f tn s withdrawal from effexor. T oday I was sick to my stomach and had a headache, but I also had my tongue in such pain I could barely eat. Is this symptoms of withdrawal from effexor?
Avatar f tn Joint pain in relation to withdrawal? Id say yes. It was for me. My joints ACHED - ankle joints, knee joints, hip joints - all the "connecting" parts. I think the best remedy is hot baths, hot showers, jaccuzzi, hot towels. Also, believe it or not, exercise helps. For me when I was in acute withdrawal and had the most pain, I did get relief from brisk walks.. the relief didnt last, but helped for a bit. It was basically - 30 minute walk; 30 minute hot shower.
Avatar m tn would not take lexapro and effexor together. for effexor withdrawal i take omega3 fish oil caps twice a day//benadryl as needed for dizzyness\\ b12 sublingualtwice a day\\st. johns wort twice a day// vitamin d3 twice a day ---ibuprofen(motrin) as needed for muscle pain. as far as i am concerned, i will never take a prescription rx. for anxiety and depression again. i also have ptsd. i am sticking to st. johns wort and omega 3 fish oil caps. both will treat depression.
Avatar f tn re experiencing the same difficultied that I am.....My body just fell apart over the last 2 years, joint pain, broke bone in my foot after working out on a tread mill, weight gain, .....Boo Hoo....But I am so depressed over what's happening to me, and I was so healthy 5 years ago.... I too feel 65 yrs old and I am only 53. I'm really worried!
Avatar n tn I switched from effexor to wellbutrin. I had to be on both medications at the same time for a long time because of the effexor withdrawal... it was so hard to come off the effexor, I was at the lowest dose for a very long time, 25mg, because I couldn't get off of it the withdrawal symptoms were too bad for me.
Avatar f tn i was on it for about the same amount of time as you, i did wean also. but i still had withdrawal for several weeks. the stomach pain and nausea were the worst. hang in there, it will go away. take care.
1176402 tn?1278321169 Yes, I went thru withdrawal but with the addition of Prozac the withdrawal was not as brutal as in the past. I have withdrawn "cold turkey" and ended up on the physc ward. I strongly suggest that you be under a doctor's care when stopping Effexor. Best of luck to you.
Avatar f tn I went through withdraw for main pills and withdraw from effexor xr and i would much rather come off pain meds then effexor it was ten times and i wasnt takeng very high dose and was only on it for about 6 months.
647120 tn?1256601651 This is a very individual thing, but in some cases tramadol may increase the effect of serotonin re-uptake inhibitors, such as Effexor - this might have made for a tougher withdrawal. If your original dose of Effexor was above 150mg/day, you may also have been getting (beneficial) norepinephrine re-uptake inhibition effects from Effexor prior to withdrawal.
Avatar f tn every one i talked to said they were having hard cramps from withdrawal off effexor
Avatar m tn It was decided by me (and my headache practitioner) to stop taking Effexor XR, as it might be exascerbating my 24/7 excruciating migraines/eye pain. Getting off of Effexor XR has been the worst HELL I have ever been through -- much worse than any depression. The only thing that has helped has been the addition of a low dose of Prozac, due to its longer half-life. I will NEVER go back to taking an antidepressant regimen.
Avatar m tn If it is Effexor withdrawal, what could a neurologist do about it? And if the psychatrist is right, what else could it be?
Avatar f tn Maybe I am going through withdrawal symptoms too from Effexor too. I was on Effexor and Lyrica. Effexor for depression but also for neuropathy pain in my fee also. It seemed the Lyrica and Effexor combined worked for the pain, I went to a neurologist and he took me off the Lyrica, which made me gain 60lbs! lol... and put me on Zonisamide. It has been great for my pain. But now that aI have been on it awhile I am feeling sick to my stomach every morning and my head feels fuzzy.
Avatar f tn I have been totally off effexor xr 75mg for 15 days. I have had all the withdrawal symptoms mentioned...pure hell! I am trying to train for a 5K which I used to do 6 years ago before effexor. I find myself having more bad training sessions than good. I have been experiencing dizziness with a heavinress or tightness in the chest. Pulse is normally low in the 50s but does manage to get into the low 60s with training. Blood pressure remains unchanged.
190673 tn?1259203266 I read dozens of horror stories about effexor withdrawal and that definitely contributed to it. However I believe it was both withdrawal symptoms and "fear symptoms". Brain zaps was from withdrawal and anxiety was from fear. Im back on 150 and felt great within 2 hour of taking it. Since this medication comes in capsules only and they are 37.5 the smallest, is there anything that can be done for those who can't tolerate withdrawal at all.
Avatar m tn Right now I am going through horrific withdrawal from Effexor in order to try Cymbalta. A SCS test is the next step at the pain clinic.
Avatar f tn From July 2006 to December 2006 I went through a slow and difficult withdrawal from Effexor 37.5, after being on Effexor for about 10 years or so. I initially went on it just due to depression over a bad job situation; I ended up staying on it because I felt so lousy every time I tried to quite. Finally, I used the program and supplements from theroadback.org faithfully, to help with the withdrawal, and my doctor was aware of the program.
Avatar m tn You suffered withdrawal from missing your Effexor dose. This med should be tapered off of slowly, as should virtually all of these kind of meds. Even tapering slowly you may suffer some withdrawal. It's normal, though uncomfortable. I don't know if there's a generic for Effexor, maybe the doc will know.
Avatar m tn Anyway, yes there is a way to get off Effexor without most if not all the withdrawal issues. The most effective way was to take to Effexor back up to a dose the did not give them the withdrawal side effects, that ADD 20mg of Prozac to the mix for 4 weeks. then and only then we would start slowly step down off of the Effexor 37.5mg a week until off. Then after one month more cut Prozac back to 10mg for two more weeks then go completely dry.
Avatar n tn Hey Opus, No you don't HAVE to wean off anything to go onto something else. This is a way to ensure safety is the main object. I've made it clear this is my habit for the purpose of knowing which drug does what. If you mix then you have no idea at all what is causing what. The habit was introduced to me by my long term pdoc who likes to know what is going on, as I do. If you have 4 drugs in your system, as this poster does, how would he or she know what is what?
