Effexor withdrawal how long

Common Questions and Answers about Effexor withdrawal how long

effexor

Avatar n tn Fish oil might help with the brain zaps. As for how long withdrawal lasts, it depends on the person. So does the taper. If you feel you need to, you can go back on the drug at the last dose at which you didn't have withdrawal and taper more slowly. Effexor is known for tough withdrawals, so what you're feeling isn't at all unusual. I'm not sure what the problem would be taking the klonopin.
Avatar m tn How long does Effexor XR withdrawal last? I understand the time frame will be different for everyone, but I'm assuming there is a general window that most people fall into? A few weeks? Months?? Some background: I've only been on anti-depressants for four months. I was first put on Zoloft while I was inpatient for an eating disorder, but it didn't seem to do anything. Two months ago I was switched to Effexor 150mg/day, as well as Neurontin 900mg/day.
Avatar f tn I was wondering if you were able to stop taking the effexor successfully, & how long did the withdrawal symtoms last? Anybody else reading this please let us all know how you are doing once you are off.
Avatar n tn My son wanted to get off antidepressants so the doctor suggested he go on prozac to counteract the wd from effexor.....(75mg) prozacs half life is 5 weeks , while effexors is less than 24 hours...so it's really hard to go off it especially if you have been on it for a while...even if they lower the dose to wean you it's pretty bad....withdrawal is awful. He's never been on Lexapro so I can't tell you if that will do the same thing...ease the withdrawal.
Avatar m tn No zoloft will not help with withdrawal from effexor is zoloft in the same group of anti-depressants ? Effexor is fat soluable and stays in your system for a long time in clings to fat and muscle, I am sorry to be the bearer of bad news, only being honest.

Avatar n tn I had to be on both medications at the same time for a long time because of the effexor withdrawal... it was so hard to come off the effexor, I was at the lowest dose for a very long time, 25mg, because I couldn't get off of it the withdrawal symptoms were too bad for me.
Avatar n tn I'm guessing you're suffering Effexor withdrawal, not Cymbalta withdrawal. It's not impossible to get a withdrawal from a short stay on a med, but unlikely. Sometimes a med just affects someone more profoundly than one would expect. But given you just came off Effexor, that being one of the hardest meds to stop taking and one that can have long withdrawals, I'm guess you didn't successfully stop it slowly enough to prevent withdrawals.
Avatar f tn Did you taper off slowly or quickly? This is a tough med to quit -- any doc should know this by now. But the intensity and duration of withdrawal is very individual. Prozac is sometimes used to help people withdraw from ssris, but Effexor isn't an ssri, it's an snri, which means it also targets norepinephrine, not just serotonin.
Avatar f tn How long can I expect the TERRIBLE effexor withdrawal symptoms to last? I took my last 1/4 tab of 37.5 mg of Effexor XR 8 days ago. I am having even functioning, worry about my job and my overall wellbeing.
Avatar f tn It may be that you need an anti-depressant. I wasn't aware that the withdrawal could go on for so long, but it could be. I went off Effexor very gradually over many months. I had none of the withdrawal symptoms, but then I could not stop crying for a month. It was clear that I needed the Effexor. If you have had depression for awhile before you first went on the Effexor, you probably do need an anti-depressant.
Avatar m tn t think Prozac is In the same group as Effexor. Effexor is a SNRI, what group is Prozac in ? My doctor changed me from Effexor to citalopram to dolsulipin that was in a different group and works on a different part of the brain. That means that you go into cold turkey. When we come off too quickly like the doctors tell us to switch your brain chemistry is altered. These tablets are fat soluable so stick to fat and muscle in your body and build up depending on how many years you were on them.
Avatar f tn I have been off Effexor for about 5 months now. I stopped cold-turkey per my doctor's instruction (BIG mistake!). I thought once I was over the initial withdrawal, I would be fine; BUT I only had a couple weeks of feeling o.k. before I started experiencing all sorts of problems. I started with muscle weakness and pain in my calves and stomach pain directly below my rib cage. It then progressed to my arms and now my voice is even weak. Everything is bilateral.
Avatar f tn How do I find a neurologist who is educated in Effexor withdrawal? I have a mild seizure disorder, my Mother was diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia, and I am "addicted" to Effexor, which I have taken for 10 years and cannot seem to break free from. Put that all together and I feel as though my worsening memory issues spell our DEMENTIA in big, bold letters. Can anyone make any suggestions? Thanks...
611559 tn?1233776445 I have taken Effexor XR for about 5 years, which followed a course of Paxil. The Paxil was preceded by a course of Zoloft. The anti-depressants were given to me because I have a physical disability with chronic pain, and anxiety that began at the same time as the pain. Anxiety was the worst, but as my life tanked from inability to do many things, the depression grew. Zoloft did not help much; I gained 60 lbs. on Paxil. When switching from Paxil to Effexor, I lost about 20 of the 60lbs.
Avatar n tn I've been on effexor for about 7 years, due to my husbands lung cancer and eventual death 6 years ago. Today my life seems fine, I;m not unhappy, I do have a gluten allergy and severe osteoarthritis and chronic anemia. I have recently decided to go off the Effexor, unfortunately, I didn't think it was going to be that big a deal, but have learned that I should have consulted my doctor before doing so. However, I took my dose of 37.
Avatar m tn I can give you my experiece withdrawing from Effexor. The first time I quit Effexor XR , I did not taper, the doctor switched me to Prozac the next day. I did pretty good,..no real side effects. The second time I went off Effexor w/o being under a doctor's care, I just quit cold turkey...do not try this, it was a really bad experience and I would never do this again. You did not mention how many Mgs. of Effexor you are taking.
530150 tn?1284658880 I think you need to talk to your doc more about how to get off effexor I quit ct and the wd's were god awfull I wish you luck and again make your doc give you some answers.
Avatar f tn I've been on Prozac for a week to help with Effexor withdrawal. I am very nauseous and have no appetite. My doctor told me this is a temporary side effect. How long does it usually last?
Avatar n tn I believe generic brands of effexor are availble and don't see how Presiq can be any more affordable? I would think it'll be much, much more expensive??
Avatar m tn I am out of options at this point and am willing to take or listen to ANY advice as to how I can better handle this withdrawal. I would like to know how long these symptoms last and if they ever go away. Even when I was being taken off the medication by my phyician lowering the dosage, the brain shivers had been starting. I have read online that the withdrawals take anywhere between days to months to years!
Avatar m tn I have recently stopped Effexor XR (150mg) and started Emsam (6mg). I have been off the effexor for 5 days and I am having "brain zaps." My question is, how long will these "brain Zaps last?" I go to school, and need to be able to function. Please email me at ***@**** for any insight.
Avatar n tn Effexor can be very hard to stop taking, and should be done slowly, tapering off carefully for as long as is needed for the particular person. The other issue is, did your doc think the mirtazapine was going to ease your quitting effexor, or just permanently switching you? Remeron is quite sedating, so she might have though this would help you through the withdrawal, but as its mechanisms of action are completely different than those of Effexor I don't know if that works or not.
