Effexor withdrawal hot flashes

Common Questions and Answers about Effexor withdrawal hot flashes

effexor

518001 tn?1212419235 Effexor did decrease the number of hot flashes. I thought it had stopped working about 4 months ago, so I started weaning myself off it. The hot flashes worsened the first day, so I went back to the 150 mg per day. I take 2 75 mg extended release pills. I take 1 in the am and the other before bed. What dosage are you taking? How long have you taken it? I've been one Effexor for the hot flashes (I think) for 3 years now.
Avatar f tn I am supposed to start Raloxifene. This may cause hot flashes. If severe enough, dr will rx Effexor to treat flashes. I have been reading such negative information about the side effects of Effexor, and even worse, the are withdrawal symptoms if you have to get off of it. Is there anyone reading this that actually had to take effexor along with Raloxifene? If so, could you tell me please if you had a good, or bad experience? Thank you for any input.
Avatar f tn says it works great on reducing hot flashes. If this is so maybe I will cut back on HRT for hot flashes. Thanks!
Avatar n tn I also am experiencing very hot flashes. FUN stuff!! I refuse to get back on it, and I am going to try to not take anything. Hopefully I can manage because I don't like being dependent on meds. So I just try to continue my days as normal as possible, and am waiting out these withdrawls. Hope I can manage my anxiety naturally, and good luck to those who are going through similar situations.
Avatar n tn I am now trying to wean myself off the Effexor and the side effects are significant (vertigo, confusion...) and the hot flashes seem worse than ever! Is there anything I can do to reduce or eliminate these without antidepressants? I need some help, it is impacting my quality of life and it is very uncomfortable at work. I appreciate any suggestions.
Avatar n tn About 2 months a go my gyneocologist put me on Effexor and told me to stop prozac for hot flashes. I was on the Effexor for about 5 weeks and had an allergic reation to it.. rash and all the worst side effects you could have. I tapered off that which has been horrible. I am now left with a bad headache and extreme fatique and lack of strength. What can I do to feel better, without having to go back on the meds.
Avatar f tn My doctor put me on Venlafaxine five years ago for hot flashes. I started out at 37.5mg daily and as the hot flashes worsened, the dose was increased. Twelve months ago, I decided I wasn't going to continue chasing the hot flashes with medicine and started weaning off. I decreased from 150mg to 75mg per day with side effects that lasted three weeks. After two months, I decreased to 37.5 mg per day. After two months of that dose, I stopped the drug.
Avatar n tn Hi Grandma 1964, I’m surprised that the estrogen has not helped you with the hot flashes after all this time. It seems that helping hot flashes is the one thing that almost everyone agrees estrogen does do well. What particular medication are you taking? I took Premarin for four months last year, and while it did help with the flashes and night sweats, it did little to help with my anxiety, stress and mood swings. If anything, it seemed to make things worse.
Avatar f tn I was having mild menopausal symptoms of hot flashes about twice a week, prior to removal of my right ovary due to a large endometrioma 10cm. Since then I have had severe hot flashes whereby I'm soaking wet more than twenty a day and sleeplessness.because of night sweats. I am taking effexor and estroven over the counter with minimal effect. Its been 5weeks since the surgery.
Avatar n tn m colder than I think I should be, and I have hot flashes. In my mind I can reason that these are temporary, but it is hard to physically experience this and not have a clue how long it may take. AND, am I doing the right thing, I really want to stick it out but sometimes second guess myself. Do you have any recommendations?
Avatar f tn I have been off of Effexor XR for 5 days now cold turkey after being on it for 5 year to control hot flashes from chemo. My head is still zapping every time I move and the nausea is still terrible. The only thing that helps a little is Dramamine. Hope it gets better soon. I never would have tried this drug if I had known how bad the withdrawals were.
Avatar f tn After this and beginning the Tamoxifen ,I suffered severe depression, hot flashes, excessive sweating . I began Effexor and found it helped the depression but not the flashes. Now a year later, I have started having severe ups and downs and mood swings and the sweating still there among other things. I have been taking the B1 and E suggested. can not find the periden c. no help I finally am seeing an M.D.
Avatar f tn I followed a course of HRT for a couple of years 2005,2006 but the hot flashes continued. Now I have one continuous heat wave all my waking hours! I am covered with heat rash, I crank the AC. I sweat so much I have 0 concept of temp. except too hot. Yes I'm angy, getting depressed, and tired all the time. I sleep most of the night with onlygetting up 3-4 times. MD wants me to go back on HRT. Not interested as it just delays the inevitable, BUT, I need help. Other than a 37.5 mg.
Avatar n tn I started taking venlafaxine for the sudden onslaught of menopausal symptoms caused by my hysterectomy. The hot flashes were constant and unbearable. It worked wonders! I never had and symptoms of depression before, during or after using the venlafaxine. However, the one withdrawal symptom I am experiencing is the 'buzzing' in my head - or 'brain shift' as I call it.

Avatar f tn I have been having terrible hot flashes and I don't want to go on hormone therapy so my Dr prescribed Prozac and that didn't help. We tried Effexor which I have been taking for 6 weeks and it helps tremendously but it is ruining my sex life. I took Wellbutrin years ago and it didn't affect my sex life so I'm wondering if this could be a help with my hot flashes.
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with breast cancer and after my lumpectomy and radiation, my oncologist started me on Tamoxifen. Shortly after I started the drug, I started having hot flashes and bad leg cramps. My doctor then prescribed Effexor for those side effects. I started at 37.5 mg and worked up to 75mg which I took for 5 years. A month ago he changed my prescription to 37.5 mg and said to stop once the medicine ran out. I took my last pill 3 days ago. I feel horrible.
746058 tn?1248344665 Hi, My name is Lois (Groggyfroggy) I'm new here. My OBGYN also put me on Effexor for hot flashes and night sweats because I wasn't a candidate for hormone therapy and I'm going thru' menopause. I happen to have POTS, but wasn't put on the medication for the POTS. I became very sick after that with nausea, shakiness, and a most terrible moodiness. I had to be taken off the medication and it took quite a while to get out of my system.
Avatar n tn t cover Effexor any longer) after a week long withdrawal period to get the Effexor out of my system. I have been on Paxil ever since (11yrs.) and I have only experienced the sweating issue for the past 2yrs. I had a COMPLETE hysterectomy in 2001 (age:31, 185lbs.) as well, and experienced the "hot flashes" but those dissipated rather quickly. In 2006 (age: 37, 202lbs.) I experienced chest pains and had a Heart Cath. done and everything was "normal".
Avatar n tn I have not had any surgery as of yet. Since about two months ago, a month before diagnosis I have been having extreme hot flashes every 5 minutes, not sweating, just so hot. Sometimes its followed by extreme cold sometimes not. I get very cold at any given time as well. In the morning with nightgown, heavy an slippers, I cant seem to warm up either. I know I am at the age where menopause symptoms begin but something is just not right. Im sure of it.
Avatar f tn Seems you have quite a few problems here. The menopause causes frequent hot flashes, and also Effexor causes sweats too. Many people have said they get sweats with Effexor. The question is, what is causing your sweats? Sounds like the menopause to me. Oh those sweats are awful and frequent. I had an early menopause and was put on HRT which stopped the sweats. I was not on Effexor then.
Avatar f tn If you can tolerate Effexor XR, it does help with the hot flashes and mood problems. However, it will give you a horrible headache/ill feeling for the first week. Once you are on the medicine, it works really well. Getting off the medicine is equally horrible. I'm 2 years into tamoxifen, just weaned off Effexor in early March after a year and a half on it.
Avatar m tn I took effexor and buspar together worst time of my life!! I'm 33 year old female was rushed to the ER due to serotonin syndrome never will I take effexor again. I initially was taking 15 mg buspar and was put on effexor for depression I felt like a zombie didn't eat had no energy I had needle feelings all over my chest couldn't breathe dizzy hot flashes .
Avatar m tn not that I tried either of those since high school. my menopause shipped sailed many years ago, but hot flashes big time.....pins and needles feeling all over my body. like a nettles sting. even my tongue. jaw clenching, stomach problems. too many side effects to list. I went to a neurologist, a holistic doc, 3 second opinion docs, and not one mentioned it could be the lyrica. My PCP suggested I see a shrink. This drug should be banned!!! I hope we see adds on 1-800 bad drug.
