Effexor withdrawal dreams

Common Questions and Answers about Effexor withdrawal dreams

effexor

Avatar f tn re probably suffering some kind of withdrawal or side effect. Quitting Effexor cold turkey is pretty nutso, but maybe the psychiatrist felt switching to Pristiq wouldn't present the withdrawal problem because the two drugs are so similar, Pristiq being basically Effexor with some of the molecule cut away. If this is your only side effect so far, it could also be your brain just shedding some stuff, which is what nightmares are.
4250427 tn?1351716367 I personally think that the symptoms you are experiencing is withdrawal from the Effexor. You were on a large dose, and it will take quite a time to get it out of your system. If you have read other posts about withdrawal from Effexor, you will see that it is difficult. You could go back and see the doctor about this, or sit it out, and wait to feel better. Some people say it takes quite a time, but in my case, I was on 150mg daily, and did withdraw at once.
Avatar m tn I felt the same way when I was going through my withdrawal from effexor, and that was under direct Dr. supervision. I had been on 37.5 for a few weeks, and my first day off of it was like hitting a brick wall. with virtually all the symptoms you discribed. I knew then that i'd be counting granules. Even then, when i was down to 3-5 grains, I couldn't stop! I ended up having to swap over to prozac to do the final transition to nothing. and EVEN THEN it wasn't painless.
1423357 tn?1511085442 My wife is concerned about the withdrawal effects of the sudden stopping of Effexor, and has asked me to ask the group if anyone has done this switch on an immediate basis. Any advice you can offer is appreciated.
408795 tn?1324935675 My wife is currently on effexor XR, she's been on it for around 2 years or longer. Can someone tell me if they ever got off of it and how they got it done. I remember when she first started taking it, one of her sx's was the strange dreams. She tried to get off cold turkey and she started having even stranger dreams, she couldn't get off. Is it a taper very slowly approach? She has gone down to 37.5 mgs. a day from 75 mgs., so now she wants to move onward and out.
Avatar n tn Switching to another antidepressant will probably leeson your withdrawal for the effexor. I know that some of the antidepressants you can get as generic, much cheaper. I take paxil and get it for $4.00 and that's a months supply. Do you want to try another med? You can check at walmart or some grocery stores and see what antidepressants they carry that are on their list of $4.00 meds. I hope this helps some.
Avatar f tn t get me wrong, Effexor did what it was supposed to, but this withdrawal process is not something I want to repeat. I am struggling a bit with bouts of anger since I started weaning down, I have heard this is a withdrawal side effect. But I worry it is depression rearing it's ugly head, how do I know the difference? Any ideas, thoughts are very welcome!
Avatar m tn This is kind of a strange set of circumstances. I'm moved to Nashville about a couple weeks before the flood hit because i was detoxing off of heroin. I took methadone a little too long, and methadone can be even harder to come off than heroin. So like 3 weeks later im still really sick and not sleeping.
Avatar n tn How long were you taking the effexor? Withdrawal from one med can be difficult sometimes, but if you are having problems have you considered talking to your doc to maybe slow the taper a little? I did this when I came off Zoloft and it helped tremendously. Also, your body needs to adjust to the dosage of Zoloft, so in my opinion, you will feel a little more on edge for a little bit, but things will and do level off...just keep working with your prescribing doctor! Keep us posted!
455167 tn?1259257871 Hello. My therapist has suggested changing from effexor xr to the chemically similar pristiq. I've been on 150mg per day of effexor for several years, and have experienced withdrawal effects before due to missing doses for a few days, so I know what that's like. To start, I'm taking 50mg pristiq and 75 mg effexor daily for 7 days, and then 50mg pristiq and 37.5mg effexor for the next 7 days. My therapist has suggested this dosing to make the transition gradual.
Avatar n tn Unfortunately, I went thru the same withdrawal off of effexor. I quite because it made me feel tired all of the time. It will probably go on for about7 days. I even had brain shortages or flashes. It is part of the withdrawal. Are you going to replace it with something else?
Avatar n tn I woke up after having horrific dreams about a being trapped in a tank of poisonous eels, feeling like my spine was wired up to the mains. I've been using a lot because I already have a high tolerance to opiates, what I wanted to know is if withdrawal symtoms of Morphine are any worse than Tramadol, because I think I may need to progress to that eventually. I have permanent nerve damage.
Avatar f tn I remember something vaguley that the withdrawal of Prozac can bring on orginal symptoms and that they will pass with the withdrawal process. Or am I feeling like this because I need prozac and I should never have come off and never will come off?????? I also have the physical symptons of bloating , stomach cramps insomnia, vivd dreams etc but accept that these will go away in time. But the question is am I a chronicly unhappy person or is it just the withdrawal and it will pass?
Avatar n tn whodunnit is right ALL antidepressants should be weaned off when quitting but effexor especially. I am in the process of weaning off effexor right now and I have no withdrawal symptoms. I suggest you see your doctor (if he is not supportive find another one) and tell him/her you want off effexor and they will help you to quit gradually.
Avatar n tn I switched from effexor to wellbutrin. I had to be on both medications at the same time for a long time because of the effexor withdrawal... it was so hard to come off the effexor, I was at the lowest dose for a very long time, 25mg, because I couldn't get off of it the withdrawal symptoms were too bad for me.
Avatar n tn I was on Effexor (Venlafaxin) for over a year- 75mg... two months ago my Dr doubled my dose because the depression symptoms were coming back and he thought it was possible I had built up a tolerance.... So then 150 mg of the POISON !!! Immediately I developed an itchy rash of what seems like acne all over my back, chest, shoulders, arms and stomach as well as my scalp (under my hair). It has itched and refused to heal for a month and a half.
928827 tn?1244736114 So i just started my lexapro, 20mg while weening off effexor 37.5 ... 2 more days and i'll be totally off the effexor. i have been having some of the wierdest dreams.. and i can't really sleep to well.. and when i do get to sleep, it's not really how do i say, a good quality of sleep. i think it's from both the medications... another problem is i keep "jumping" day by day, like one day i feel great, with a little bit of anxiety the next (like today) a lot of anxiety.
874521 tn?1424116797 And urge her to talk her dream problem over with shrink or his/her nurse. Effexor has helped many people with depression. Strange dreams are a fairly common side effects of antidepressants.
Avatar f tn I have done it both ways, so I know. Effexor helps a lot of people, it is just the withdrawal that is difficult. I took 10 months to withdraw and had no withdrawal symptoms at all. OK cold turkey worked for you, but I would encourage people to take a very long time to withdraw. It worked for me. I am an elderly lady and have struggled with depression for over 20 years and been on many different anti depressants. Effexor really helped me, and I would not knock it.
Avatar m tn If it is Effexor withdrawal, what could a neurologist do about it? And if the psychatrist is right, what else could it be?
Avatar n tn I think that this must be what it's like for a junkie to get off heroin or something. Unless you're a rich junkie and can afford to go to one of those places where they put you in a coma until after the withdrawal is over. I have been weaning myself off Effexor XR since March '09. I went to my shrink last week and told him I was down to 1 pill (75mg) a day. I was doing ok, and he said that I was not at a therapeutic level, so I might as well go off it altogether.
Avatar n tn Hello, I'm in hell. I've been off of Effexor for 7 days now, at least. The withdrawal effects are beyond horrific. I feel extremely agitated and angry most of the time, hopeless, Like I should committ suicide so I don't put my family through the hell of having me in there life. I know these are not normal thoughts and I'm not going to kill myself I just need help.
Avatar f tn I am also in the process of weaning of effexor xr 150mg. I started cutting back to having one 150mg capsule every second day 10 days ago, I was waiting to get paid and so today is my third day without one. I am about to go get 75mg script filled. I have been clenching my teeth, I keep forgetting things mid sentence, I am irritable, angry, no sex drive, want to sleep all the time but dream crazy dreams every night.
Avatar f tn My Doctor just switch my medication from 150 mg of Effexor XR to 400 mg of Seroquel XR. I dropped my dosage of Effexor gradually but I still experienced terrible withdrawl. Now I am experiencing bad side effects, " I'm guessing ths", from the Seroquel. I have gained weight in my stomach area very rapidly, I have pain and stiffness in my legs, 24 hour dry mouth and sinuses and I feel like I could cry at the drop of a hat.
Avatar m tn You suffered withdrawal from missing your Effexor dose. This med should be tapered off of slowly, as should virtually all of these kind of meds. Even tapering slowly you may suffer some withdrawal. It's normal, though uncomfortable. I don't know if there's a generic for Effexor, maybe the doc will know.
Avatar m tn Anyway, yes there is a way to get off Effexor without most if not all the withdrawal issues. The most effective way was to take to Effexor back up to a dose the did not give them the withdrawal side effects, that ADD 20mg of Prozac to the mix for 4 weeks. then and only then we would start slowly step down off of the Effexor 37.5mg a week until off. Then after one month more cut Prozac back to 10mg for two more weeks then go completely dry.
Avatar n tn Hey Opus, No you don't HAVE to wean off anything to go onto something else. This is a way to ensure safety is the main object. I've made it clear this is my habit for the purpose of knowing which drug does what. If you mix then you have no idea at all what is causing what. The habit was introduced to me by my long term pdoc who likes to know what is going on, as I do. If you have 4 drugs in your system, as this poster does, how would he or she know what is what?
