Avatar m tn I have been using Cymbalta for alomost four years, I am very concerned that my Doc wants to start me on 40mg of Prozac when I have been on 120mg of Cymbalta. Can I have your thoughts about 40mg vs. 120mg and what side affects I will have to go though.
1128643 tn?1262483649 What your doctor will probably do is cut down the Celexa completely and give you 60mg Cymbalta after your first week on Cymbalta. 60mg will be your regular dose, 30mg is the starting dose.
Avatar n tn I was on paxil for almost 20 years for depression and panic. MD switched me to Cymbalta. He said it is possible for you to get used to meds after being on them long term. Is that true, cannot find much info. on that. The problem is the Cymbalta was better with my depression but seems to increase my anxiety and cause me excessive sweating, esp in social situations. Does the sweating sound like a common side effect for SNRI?
Avatar m tn In fact many people take an SNRI like Effexor, Pristiq, or Cymbalta along with an SSRI as a regular treatment. The two meds will not collide with each other. Thus, simultaniuosly tapering "SLOW" off the Effexor while ramping up the Zoloft is perfectly safe in almost every case.
4753943 tn?1359934569 Today my doc switched me from Effexor to Cymbalta because I have chronic back pain and she felt the Effexor was not helping me at all. My main concern is stopping the Effexor. Has anyone switched like this before? I want to know if I should still expect the intense Effexor withdrawal symptoms such as brain zapping, nausea, dizziness, and crying spells. Any advice would greatly help. I want to know what I'm getting myself in to!
Avatar f tn s like my mind goes completely blank. Would you recommend stopping Effexor and switching to Cymbalta? Will Cymbalta reduce the withdrawal effect? My daughters were both recently put on Cymbalta, and their depression is much better, and they claim they are "thinking more clearly". Thanks for your input.
530150 tn?1284658880 I then tapered off Effexor and started Cymbalta. After 8 weeks on Cymbalta I gave up on it because it just was not working and was not controling my depression. Not only that, but I felt really nasty on it. THIS DOES NOT MEAN THAT CYMBALTA WILL FAIL FOR YOU. It just didn't help me and every person is different. It may work wonders for you. After about 6 to 8 weeks on it, you will know if it's working for you. If not, don't get discouraged.
Avatar f tn My Dr. just switched me from Effexor XR to Cymbalta. I took my first dose of Cymbalta in the evening, because the script said it caused drowsiness. I was wide awake all night and went to work the following day. Has anyone had a problem with this med at night? Now I'm not taking anything. I'm a mess. Probably going through withdrawals. Please help. I can't reach my doctor.
Avatar n tn I'm guessing you're suffering Effexor withdrawal, not Cymbalta withdrawal. It's not impossible to get a withdrawal from a short stay on a med, but unlikely. Sometimes a med just affects someone more profoundly than one would expect. But given you just came off Effexor, that being one of the hardest meds to stop taking and one that can have long withdrawals, I'm guess you didn't successfully stop it slowly enough to prevent withdrawals.
1823499 tn?1370090289 I took it many years ago as well... As msnova74 said, just like cymbalta, effexor xr is an SNRI and chemically this may not work for you. I would ask your doctor this - "If I had such bad luck with Cymbalta, why would you like to try another SNRI drug?" Personally I found no luck with any "antidepressants" and have to take a combination of Adderall and Klonopin.
Avatar m tn Because of sexual side effects with Effexor, my psychiatrist is switching me to Cymbalta because supposedly it has lower sexual side effects. Anyone out there that has tried both or anyone with positive things to say about Cymbalta? Thanks!
Avatar f tn Treatment resistant just means you haven't found a treatment that works yet. I'm confused, though -- you say you're taking Cymbalta while you're still taking Effexor, and have just started tapering off the Effexor? Are you on a therapeutic dose of the Cymbalta or a starter dose?
Avatar f tn Truth is that Cymbalta is just as bad, but you hear less about it because Cymbalta is a much less popular medication compaired to Effexor. Both Effexor and Cymbalta are SNRI (Selective Neurephineferine Reuptake Inhibitors) and thus they both are very much alike including the withdrawl symptoms they produce. SSRI meds also cause withdrawl symptoms, but to a somewhat lesser degree. I have spent many weeks tapering off Effexor in the past, and also Cymbalta.
3547166 tn?1347814000 I was switched from effexor to cymbalta then finally to prisiq just keep you close ones informed on med changes so they can help identify any odd behavior. good luck, we are all different and meds react differently in each.
2107676 tn?1388973859 My doctor wants to start me on Cymbalta. I have been on Effexor for over 6 years. I had a horrible time coming off of the Lyrica. I swear it was as bad as any opiate withdrawal. I still feel sick, depressed, and really miserable. Now I am supposed to start the Effexor taper. (Oh, I chose to do them separate). I am on 150mg. The taper is 75mg for 1 week, then 37.5mg for a week, then stop and start the Cymbalta.
Avatar m tn Believe Cymbalta and Effexor are in the same class of drugs. Not familar with Abilify. None of us likes the weight gain that seems inevitable with many antidepressants. Wellbutrin in very stimulating and in another class of antidepressants. Suspect there would be less sexual side effects and weight gain, but others will have to weigh in on it. It never helped me; just amplified the anxiety to point I had to have Soma to relax tight muscles.
Avatar m tn Some antidepressants have been successfully used for pain. Cymbalta is commonly prescribed for pain and Effexor has shown promise in studies for pain. Some of the older Tricyclic antidepressants like Imipramine have had good results on pain. I have never heard of Zoloft being used for pain however. I suppose it could possibly work by the way it increases synaptic levels of dopamine but Zoloft is only a weak dopamine re-uptake inhibitor.
596143 tn?1226648054 I took blood for tests and put me on cymbalta for the time being. I am now tappering off my Effexor and up to 60 mg of the cymbalta. I haven't gotten the test results back yet. anyway, my question is--Has anyone had luck with cymbalta? And does cymbalta work for fibro and cfs? Why isn't he referring me to a neuro or a pain mgmt doc?
772020 tn?1434994216 I have been taking Lexapro for years. It def kept the depression away, but I was very "lax" about everything. Still better than the "angry" me. My doctor switched me over to Cymbalta a month ago and I"m not liking the feeling. I take it in the morning but by 5ish, I'm shaky ... I am having thought and feelings I havent had in many years and I want to switch back to the Lexapro. I also take 1mg of Clanozapam in the morning.
Avatar f tn I am sure your DR can help you with all of that and explain it. Also look into Cymbalta, it is like Effexor XR.
1302779 tn?1287405029 Generic Effexor has worked very well for me, and I went on it for the same reason. Just explainto your doctor that you cannot afford the Cymbalta, he will know what generic is best for you. Best wishes!
1102732 tn?1257823629 s better than Effexor and the recent studies show really good results with Cymbalta. Effexor was introduced in 1993 and Cymbalta in 2004 for neuropathic pains and 2007 for treatment of depression and anxiety. Please note that i'm not a doctor and i'm only giving you suggestion based on my personal knowledge and current studies. You should talk about this with your doctor.
Avatar m tn Often options include trying other meds with less of this particular side effect (for depression/anxiety often pristiq, effexor, cymbalta) or adding another med to the sertraline such as wellbutrin/bupoprion. It can take some trial and error but it can get better!
Avatar n tn My OB put me on Wellbutrin XL to see if that might help (I have tried zoloft and effexor before) - but I am having sever withdrawl to the Cymbalta. I was on 60mg and then now for the past two months I have been taking 30mg once a WEEK - opening the capsule and dividing it into two. I have not been on any Cymbalta for a week and a half - trying to get it out of my system completely, but I am having very bad withdrawls.
