Effexor vs anafranil

Common Questions and Answers about Effexor vs anafranil

effexor

Avatar n tn I am very concerned...I have just started taking Anafranil 25 mgs about a mnth ago. Im also taking Effexor 75mgs for the past 8 yrs. I have noticed while sleeping that I feel like my tongue is rolling back in my mouth and my teeth grinding, almost as if Im having a seizure. While this is happening Im also dreaming. Not sure if this is my dreams or if Im having a seizure. I am 29 yrs old and otherwise healthy. I suffer from OCD and severe Depression.
Avatar m tn i have never taken wellbutrin but my daughter does, i have taken effexor. for me the effexor was terrible, but some people on this site do very well with it. it made me extremly tired, heart palpitations, raised my blood pressure, jaw pain and many other problems. my daughter says the wellbutrin helps her depression but makes her anxiety worse so if you have anxiety you may have to take something for that on top of the wellbutrin. in my opinion, effexor is horrible, i hated it.
Avatar f tn This is my case and it is difficult to understand what I am suffering from most now as the effects of being on effexor are much like a thyroid gone bad. And since I stopped effexor and all antideppresson drugs almost 7 months ago. However now I feel effexor withdrawls are worse. I am aware of this happening and am trying to deal with both problems. Has anyone else felt this same thing and if so how do you deal with it, how do you tell which is which, thyroid or effexor?
Avatar n tn Not true that people find Effexor more effective. They all affect each individual differently. Effexor tends to have far more side effects than Zoloft, and is known to be much more difficult to quit. On the other hand, are you sure Zoloft is any safer during pregnancy? Whatever the case, you'll have to taper very carefully off Effexor before you start Zoloft so you can tell which is a side effect of Zoloft and which is a withdrawal effect of Effexor.
Avatar m tn I mentioned about switching from Effexor Xr 225mg (which on my own I lowered to 150mg) He said that Effexor XR affects two different areas of the body whereas Zoloft only affects one area. Now he mentioned NOTHING about keep taking the Effexor Xr in lower does while I make hte switch to Zoloft. Am I supposed to just switch right over to Zoloft and discontinue the Effexor Xr??
Avatar n tn m not sure what the highest dose of Anafranil is but there are many other medications for OCD (many in the same category as Anafranil which are SSRI anti-depressents such as Prozac, Zoloft, Paxil, etc. that are also used for OCD) so you might want to speak to your psychiatrist about potentially changing you to another medication if Anafranil doesn't work anymore.
Avatar n tn Never rush coming of psych. meds. I'm on Effexor, as Citalopram didn't help.Am on it for life, as I've relapsed several times, only to end up in Psych. Hospital. Consultant insisted that it is in my best interest to remain on Effexor 150 mg as a 'maint. dose. Along with 3.75 mg. of Zopiclone (sleeping tablet) Since I've not quitted Effexor I can't answer your question. Take longer than you are tempted to before you quit.
Avatar n tn All of these can cause digestive problems. Effexor could have, too. You just never know. Keep in mind, Zoloft is very different than Effexor, it's a different class of drug. It tends to be less problematic than Effexor, which is why your psychiatrist might have recommended it, but it's also a weaker antidepressant since it doesn't target norepinephrine, only serotonin. I'm not the doctor, by the way, just a user!
222417 tn?1241564300 And also how long before I can take Celexa because I am still on Anafranil. I take 50mgs once a day in the night time. Will I have to be off Anafranil before I can start Celexa? I know I ask alot of questions but that is what I am like. Thanks.
Avatar f tn cipralex, Zyprexa, Effexor, abilify, Remeron, Xanax, lexotanil, faverin, zoloft, anafranil, resperidone, rivotril, and 2 other meds that I don't remember. Do u think if I give the Effexor like one or 2 weeks more, I may still benefit from it. Today is the 5th week on Effexor and the 7th on seroxat and dogmatil. I read that they may work between the 6th and 8th week, but I don't know if this is what I need to do or not. Do u have any idea about what can I do next?
1296191 tn?1280699873 Even more annoying is the fact that the pain still has not gone away after twenty-five days. I take 225 mg. of Effexor xr and 25 mg. of Anafranil once every day, along with over-the-counter pain pills for my abdomen and VitaCraves adult vitamins. My doctor is trying to gradually decrease the dosage of my Effexor xr. I took 262.5 mg. for quite a while before lowering the dose. The pain has not gone away. Do you have any insight as to what might be going on and how to manage the pain? Thanks!
Avatar n tn s was put on antidepressants to cope with severe mood swings , anxiety, etc. I have found that effexor xr to be helpful to calm me from outburst of anger but I stay at a too layed back level, no emotion I don't cry as often but never laugh etc. I have researched ADD and wonder if I have ADD. The symptoms are so similar. I think I will ask my Doctor to try me on some of the meds to see if I can see a difference but am afraid because i have high blood pressure.
Avatar m tn If you want to know why it this works, a big part of it is the half-life of the medicine (Effexor is 3 hours vs. Prozac 70 hours....short half life means far worse withdrawal). Second is the receptors that Prozac hits vs Effexor which ends up reversing the withdrawal effect. Then when you finally get off Prozac it just slowly fades away over a 7 day period out of your body without any withdrawal.
Avatar f tn My doctor put me all the way up to 150 mg of effexor and it made me worse. I've only tried xanax once recreationally so I don't really know the side effects. But my doctor reduced me to 37.5 mg of effexor and 20 mg of celexa (citalopram) plus 5 mg twice a day of clonazepam. I have found that the clonazepam has helped a lot, although I have been feeling extremely tired. But at least I don't have a constant knot in my stomach or get panic attacks.
Avatar m tn I have been using Cymbalta for alomost four years, I am very concerned that my Doc wants to start me on 40mg of Prozac when I have been on 120mg of Cymbalta. Can I have your thoughts about 40mg vs. 120mg and what side affects I will have to go though.
Avatar n tn Hi. I'm on tamoxifen so I can't take any meds which inhibit cyp2D6 enzymes. I've been on almost ALL SSRI ( Effexor, lexapro, celexa, nortriptyline, fetzima, & viibryd) & my depression worsens with them (suicidal thoughts, etc). The only one that has helped is remeron but every time I've had to return to remeron I gain weight. I'm usually 110-112 and eat very well & workout almost everyday.
Avatar f tn t hear good things about Paxil but I have to say it was worth going through the withdrawls from Effexor to be put on somethineg that really works for me with none of the side effects that Effexor has. I'm crossing my fingers for you. You might not believe this but you sound like a strong person. You are stronger than you give youself credit for. With that strenght I knnow you can get though the withdrawls. They won't last forever even though they might feel like they will.
1110049 tn?1409402144 I have found a difference in the generic form of Effexor. I have asked to be put back on Effexor, and feel much better for it. The doctors and pharmacists may not agree, but my body tells me what it feels. We are all different, and what works for one person, does not work for another. A doctor told me there is little difference in the price, but then I am lucky, as I don't have to pay. In UK under 16s and over 60s do not pay for their medication. One good thing about the NHS.
Avatar n tn My doctor upped my prescription of anafranil from 200mg a day to 250mg a day. i was on 1 mg of klonopin a day. I was switched to Ativan 2mg 3 times a day. I can sleep now, but stil obsess about those derealization feelings. How long should I give the upped dosage to start making a difference? Im hoping the Dr will chime in on this one. I really feel I would do better on Celexa, but the Drs call was to up my anafranil. any thought?
Avatar m tn My husband was on cellexa for 60 days and switched to Effexor 30 days ago. Prior to starting these is sex drive was high. Since starting these it has gone to almost nothing. We are lucky if something happens once in 2 weeks. Prior to all this it was almost every night or every other night. Any advise or med advise?
Avatar f tn I have resently been diagnosed with Cyclothemia. I am over 40 and for the past decade I have been diagnosed separetely with Depression, Anxiety Disorder & Bipolar II. I have taken many combinations of medications and NOTHING has worked for me. At least now I think I have been labeled right so I want to find the right combination of medications so that I can live a normal life. I feel like my psychiatrist can definitely help but I want to do my own research as well.
