Effexor sexual dysfunction

Common Questions and Answers about Effexor sexual dysfunction

effexor

Avatar f tn IF he comes off Effexor (with a supervised weaning schedule), will the sexual dysfunction improve over time or will he always have erection/ejaculation problems?
Avatar n tn I am fully convinced this is a real condition, I never once in my life even at the peak of my depression had sexual dysfunction problems, they started the day I took effexor and later zoloft. Even after being off the medications for almost a year (it will be a year at the end of November) only a little function has recovered and orgasms are not nearly as intense. I am hoping to get advice from a doctor on this board and also raise awareness of this problem among the medical community.
Avatar f tn Effexor is always stimulating, on purpose. It targets norepinephrine receptors. The fact it isn't stimulating for you is great, it means your main problem is depression, not anxiety, but the fact you're having problems means something is giving you those problems. We're just trying to help, but you must make your own decisions.
Avatar m tn Wellbutrin, the brand name of bupropion, had the lowest overall rate of sexual dysfunction. It was associated with a rate of 22% of the overall population. The sustained release formulation fared almost as well with a rate of 25%. In contrast, the SSRIs (Prozac, Paxil, Zoloft and Celexa), venlafaxine (Effexor) and mirtazapine (Remeron) averaged about 40%. When subjects were removed who had other probable causes of sexual dysfunction, the results were even better.
Avatar f tn ve recently been prescribed Celexa (I plan to do about 20 mg for 9 months to a year). I know that Celexa, like any SSRI, causes sexual side effects like low libido, erectile dysfunction, and anorgasmia. My question is: Will these side effects wear off after I stop the Celexa? Can anyone who has experience with Celexa or other SSRIs tell me if their sexual side effects wore off after the treatment was over?
Avatar n tn ****A common cause of situational anorgasmia, in both men and women, is the use of anti-depressants, particularly selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). Post-SSRI sexual dysfunction (PSSD) is a name given to a reported iatrogenic sexual dysfunction caused by the previous use of SSRI antidepressants. Though reporting of anorgasmia as a side effect of SSRIs is not precise, it is estimated that 15-50% of users of such medications are affected by this condition[citation needed].
Avatar m tn It is often used in conjunction with other meds for this reason. Although sexual dysfunction is rare, it does happen to some.
Avatar m tn it is very common to have sexual dysfunction issues with medications like sertraline. let your provider know how much of an issue this is for you. Often options include trying other meds with less of this particular side effect (for depression/anxiety often pristiq, effexor, cymbalta) or adding another med to the sertraline such as wellbutrin/bupoprion. It can take some trial and error but it can get better!
410475 tn?1262942367 I was on Zoloft a few years ago, but not for very long. For me, the only side effect was sexual dysfunction - I had a very low sex drive and could not orgasm. I started taking Wellbutrin with the Zoloft to try to counter the side effect, but it really didn't work. I am now taking Effexor XR 150 mg and have noticed that it takes longer for me to orgasm, but still isn't as bas as when I was on the Zoloft. However, this medication will work differently for everybody.
Avatar f tn When you say sexual dysfunction ,do you refer to an erectile and ejaculation problem? Do you experience any pain or deformity during erection or ejaculation? When you say "no erection", does this happen 100% of the time? Do you still get night time erections ? Have you any previous infections or prior surgeries or instrumentation of the genitalia? Any recent pain or problems with urination?
Avatar f tn I have sought answers from many places, but sexual dysfunction is SO vague and people seem to take the cookie cutter approach to treatment. My husband has difficulty maintaining an erection (which I realize is part of the MS). Viagra and Cialis have not helped. Despite all of this, we still have a satisfying intimate relationship. But the real problem is that we are trying to get pregnant and 5 times out of 6, he is unable to ejaculate.
Avatar n tn If you are taking one of the standard medications for ocd such as the SSRI anti-depressents (Prozac, Paxil, Luvox, Effexor) this could be the problem. Speak to your psychiatrist about and ask if that could be what the cause is.
Avatar f tn My hubby to be is addicted to opiates. He is on suboxone and like the rest of the sub users he has NO SEX drive. WE have sex maybe 1 time every 2-4 months, he will not discuss it without getting upset and giving up. he has made a appt for some cream or gel they offer its a testosterone cream. He as well as everyone has no libido but just for sex. I am so aggravated with this, i except the addiction and the treatment. I can't get laid ever?
Avatar f tn Because drugs don't work the same even in the same category, the only way you find out what side effects you'll get, unfortunately, is to try the med. Wellbutrin is perhaps the most stimulating of all the antidepressants, so if anxiety is your main problem this probably won't ever be your solution. But some people do combine a small dose of wellbutrin as a secondary antidepressant with an ssri to battle the weight gain and sexual dysfunction.
6726276 tn?1421126668 Yes, Effexor reduces sexual desire. I tried it and I knew that. For that, I switched it. I'm now on Pristiq which is Effexor metabolite. Pristiq is less side effects. Both may work differently. For me, Pristiq work better. Pristiq may also reduce sexual desire but not like Effexor. Also, it work differently from one to another. Google on Pristiq if it available where you live.
Avatar f tn See a urologist who specializes in erectile dysfunction. Alternatively, you could have your primary care doctor prescribe Viagra and see if that works for you.
Avatar n tn I was on lexapro for 2 months, for general anxiety and depression then started takin effexor for sexual side effect reasons..The effexor did not cure any of my sexual side effects. My doctor then advised me to stop taking the effexor for a week to see if the sexual side effects got any better which they did. I am now on day 5 of no effexor and i keep having these zaps or sensations running through my body. When will these stop? any help will be great.
Avatar f tn They do not seem to know where they are located and further if they traumatize them and leave you with no sensation they best they can do is say, oh you have got FSD (female sexual dysfunction) or dyspareunia. They can offer you no help. Further I found after seeking help from numerous doctors they really don't want to know about it and are not really able to explain anything to you. I am so sad to say I found them useless, ill informed and neither helpful or consoling.
