effexor ocd

My wife has mild OCD and has problems with obsessisive thoughts, perfectionist tendencies and mood swings. We're looking for some advice on medications that are known to be effective in treating these symptoms. She's been on Effexor for a couple of years which has been tremendously successful but she had to stop taking it recently, (due to it causing high blood pressure), and we discovered the dark, ugly side of this medication.

m assuming that you recently just changed from one anti-depressant to another one--Effexor. When I was on Effexor and was severely depressed, I was told to increase my Effexor. After increasing my Effexor, it took about a month to completely stop my depression. But another friend said that she could tell a difference the next day. By the way, my severe depression was so situational, that I couldn't believe that ANY drug could make me feel better.

I have severe GAD/OCD and insomnia. Tried multiple meds the only one that worked was effexor. After 10 years it's losing its effect however I experimented and a small amount of Cocaine and my anxiety/ocd and insomnia completely dissappear for 5 days. Does this give any insight into the root of my problem?

Hi, I have suffered from GAD, Depression and OCD for over 30 years. In recent years, it had been fairly well controlled as I had started on Effexor XR over 300mg years back, and by 2014 had tapered down to 75mg per day. Last year suffered some trauma in a near fatal crash, and mentally did fine in the aftermath. In any event, after leaving the hospital last August, I ended up having relapsing symptoms. I have had what I consider to be an excellent Psychiatrist for years.

Thanks alot for answering. Yes he is a psychiatrist and he is not the first one. I met many of them before reaching this person. My case is very resistant and I didn't respond to many medications. I almost ried everything and that is making me very depressed too. I have treatment resistant depression and Gad with obsessive thoughts. Before I was diagnosed with ocd also but I changed the doctor who diagnosed me and the new ones said that I don't have ocd. I have obsessive thoughts only.

I would like to know if it is alright to take 200 mg zoloft, 150 mg effexor xr, and 300 mg gabapentin 3 times a day, each day?

lUVOX IS FANTASTIC FOR MY DEPRESSION AND OCD. I also have the greatest therapist in the world. Along with his help, luvox has been like gold.

Have taken paxil, celexa, effexor, xanax, and lexapro through the years but experienced weight gain of at least 40 lbs. My OB/GYN helped wean me off the meds this past spring but within the last month I have again started experiencing severe anxiety with bouts of depression. Family doc started me on Trazadone which just made me feel like a zombie and shortly after switched me to Wellbutrin 150mg daily.

If you are taking one of the standard medications for ocd such as the SSRI anti-depressents (Prozac, Paxil, Luvox, Effexor) this could be the problem. Speak to your psychiatrist about and ask if that could be what the cause is.

I have been totally of the Effexor for about four days now and the battle seems to come and go. I am still taking 1 MG Alprazolam (Xanax) daily so I don't totally freak out.

Effexor is most effective for my depression and ADD. Zoloft is most effective for my obsessive thinking, but also makes me very tired. Can I take both at the same time? ( Currectly take Effexor XR 150mg.. Used to take Zoloft 100mg. daily.) If not, is there a different med that can be taken with the Effexor to help control the obsessing?

I have had OCD and Anxiety all my life and now depression . In the last 10 years I have been prescribed several different drugs, i.e Paxil, Zoloft, Xanax and Effexor. The first three caused me to feel so "out of it" that I guess you could say they worked because I wasn't having OCD issues or anxiety. I had no feelings of anything. I also went from a healthy weight of 130 pounds to 215 pounds in just under 18 months.

medication cocktails people are seeing these days for OCD and especially the pure O type? I am currently on 112.5 mg of Effexor and moving up to 150 mg soon. I was "fine" for about 6 years after my last bout of medication (Risperdal and Zoloft) that I quit due to horrible weight gain. Can anyone give me a comparison between Effexor XR and Zoloft for severe anxiety. My Psycharist has just put me on Effexor XR 37.5. I have also ben prescribed Zoloft in the last 6 months but never took it. I have taken Effexor XR 37.5 for two months but quit cold turkey because of the cost, side effects. I really do not want to start Effexor again because of the nasty withdrawal. Anyone had experience with either or both? With Zoloft, is it difficult to sleep at night?

m currently on Effexor and Visatril, i have to take an Effexor every 12 hours, and can take 2 Vistarils every 4 hours. Some days i do okay, other days i do horrible like today and cant even leave my bed. I could really use the help of someone who has gone through this. I've gotten tested and tested and tested. my last one was a 6.

i have taken effexor for 10 years. it is a life safer. i have depression and OCD. i can't imagine my life without it. side effects will decrease, although i still get a brief episode of nausea about 3 hours after taking it..."gut seratonin" is what i was told. it is worth it. what is the newer Effexor that was mentioned?

Hi. I do this all the time & I have trained myself to stop. I take 100mg of Effexor XR & have had the cognitive therapy & still have certain moments where I have the doubt & panic. When I have that question, I stop myself right afterwards with what JGF25 said about NOT having catastrophic scenario & it works. Then I move on with my life & all is good. A few weeks ago I was off me meds due to a medical issue.

This has become common due to a study that didn't study anxiety sufferers, it studied depression sufferers, and determined that adding medications helped improve the treatment results. Don't know if it'll help you or not and haven't taken it myself, but that's why it's being added to your Effexor. Also don't know if it'll add to your side effects. I guess you won't know unless you take it.

A lot of my OCD stemmed from anxiety and racing or jumbled thought. I still have OCD but I have learned to distinguish them as not true or necessary. Do you believe if you keep doing these things you will stay germ free or is it your mind telling you these things are necessary to prevent germs. There is always hope. You are looking for a balance in your thoughts. Learning something different could help. Don't close the door on all options.

Hi I am diagnosed with PTSD, OCD and anxiety. I was on zoloft for about 8 months and gained 25 pounds I went form 108 pounds to 132. I quit taking it about a month ago. My anxiety got bad again so my pain management dr who is my only dr put me on wellbutrin and with in 2 weeks I lost half of that weight gain. Well on welbutrin my anxity got very bad so I went to a walk in clinic and the Dr perscribed me effexor and a few XANAX to help while I wait for the Effoxor to work.

I have been suffering from anxiety for over a week now and my doctor increased my dose of Effexor from 37.5mg to 75mg. I have been having these crazy thoughts about random weird things. That is usually what happens when my anxiety gets out of whack. One day I just had this thought that when I talk I hear the words one way and everyone else hears them a different way.
