Common Questions and Answers about Effexor long term use

effexor

Avatar n tn While my pain is not nearly as severe as it was before, I now have much more fatigue, lack of range-of-motion, lack of coordination, and have gained quite a lot of weight. Can long-term Paxil use cause any of these things, and, if so, what other treatment options are out there for the physical symptoms of PTSD? ( I have already been through a couple of years of counseling for it.
Avatar f tn My doctor hates Benzodiazepines because of th potential liver disease with long term use. I don't drink so I think i am fairly safe. i know people taking up to 12 mg's for seizures.
Avatar n tn Does Wellbutrin become ineffective after long term use? Do people develop anger issues over time? One doctor told me that these effects are felt early, but would not present after years of use, and today a Psychiatrist told me that my recent emotional (angry) responses were caused by the Wellbutrin and that I needed to change to Lexapro. I'm confused. Can you tell me which is the better answer?
Avatar m tn What I was wondering is if this short term memory loss can be explained away with long term antidepressant use or a possible physical condition. Doctors are in short supply in my city, and I've been to the walkin clinic for prescription refills, and when I've asked the doctor about it, all he has to say is that he's never heard of memory loss being a symptom of long term antidepressant use.
Avatar n tn You don't say how long you've been on the Effexor, but you've only been on the Klonopin for two months at the lowest possible dose. You must taper off Klonopin slowly after long term use, which I don't think 2 months at your dose would qualify as. BUT.........since you are apparently under the care of a doctor, I would advise you to contact him/her and let them know how you are feeling. Maybe cutting your Klonopin in half IS too fast for you.
492527 tn?1212175672 I noticed that no one answered your post, and since I don't have personal experience with Effexor (I couldn't tolerate it), I just did a quick search. I just uncovered 2 things that I find disturbing: "In 2007, the Institute for Safe Medication Practices and the Division of Public Health Sciences, Wake Forest University School of Medicine, conducted a longitudinal Adverse Events Reporting System Review of the U.S. FDA's most dangerous drugs.
Avatar f tn I have been off Effexor for about 5 months now. I stopped cold-turkey per my doctor's instruction (BIG mistake!). I thought once I was over the initial withdrawal, I would be fine; BUT I only had a couple weeks of feeling o.k. before I started experiencing all sorts of problems. I started with muscle weakness and pain in my calves and stomach pain directly below my rib cage. It then progressed to my arms and now my voice is even weak. Everything is bilateral.
Avatar f tn It takes about a year for it to work to its full potential. It is for long term anxiety, not the shorter term panic attack stuff. I am also now starting to take clonazepam for those wonderful times... but they do not happen so often or as easily as before the zoloft. I love zoloft. I still feel like myself, but calmer and with no physical side affects. Hope it works for you!
Avatar m tn WIll I just have to keep titrating the dose upwards to get the same effects? What will happen to me if I use it long term, is it a safe drug other than the addiction factor? Does it give anyone's anxiety worse on a permanent basis when they stop taking it?
Avatar f tn I think someone one here has experience with long term use of Effexor and maybe they can tell you more. I think eventually all ADs stop working well, so that could be the problem. I hope you can add something. If you go off Effexor, make sure you go slowly even if you add something else. My impression is that Wellbutrin alone could be stimulating. Maybe a combo of it with something else though? Anyway, I guess I'm no big help. Good luck!!
534854 tn?1234076108 However, let’s keep in mind that antidepressants are barely more effective than a placebo in the short-term and, as we see here, can lead to problems in the long-term, where one can either choose to stay, for years, on an antidepressant (perhaps indefinitely) or have a good chance of risking some heinous withdrawal effects. Psychotherapy is much better in the long-run for depression, but it still does not positively impact many people.
Avatar f tn They certainly hear all the negative media coverage damning the prescription and use of long term opiates. If we influence or change one person's negative attitude towards chronic pain and its management than we are fighting the war against us! Yes the War against Us, Against Chronic Pain Patients. You should not be shamed or harassed into this position, "stop the mess and live in constant pain." Taking your husband to your next appt along with educating him may be beneficial.
Avatar m tn The only reason that I ask is that I've heard on of the long-term side effects on dxm use is being a bit lathargic. I'm that way now and the VA did an MRI of my brain and found that my adrenal glad had begun to shrink so, it wasn't producing enough of the thyroid hormone.....I can already tell I'm got some defects from the long term use in my cognitive abilities. I'm down to 18 pills day. 1 pill every two days. The morning w/draws have pretty much stopped.
