1110049 tn?1409402144 t like to think that ladies who do not need Effexor for depression etc. are being prescribed it for hot flashes. We all know how difficult it is to stop Effexor. I myself am not worried for myself, but for others.
Avatar f tn says it works great on reducing hot flashes. If this is so maybe I will cut back on HRT for hot flashes. Thanks!
Avatar n tn I am 51 and began taking Effexor XR 75 mg as prescribed by my physician to help reduce the hot flashes. I've taken this same level of Rx for 3 years. It has helped to reduce the hot flashes, however, I have other side effects that concern me. I am now trying to wean myself off the Effexor and the side effects are significant (vertigo, confusion...) and the hot flashes seem worse than ever! Is there anything I can do to reduce or eliminate these without antidepressants?
746058 tn?1248344665 Hi, My name is Lois (Groggyfroggy) I'm new here. My OBGYN also put me on Effexor for hot flashes and night sweats because I wasn't a candidate for hormone therapy and I'm going thru' menopause. I happen to have POTS, but wasn't put on the medication for the POTS. I became very sick after that with nausea, shakiness, and a most terrible moodiness. I had to be taken off the medication and it took quite a while to get out of my system.
Avatar n tn Hi Grandma 1964, I’m surprised that the estrogen has not helped you with the hot flashes after all this time. It seems that helping hot flashes is the one thing that almost everyone agrees estrogen does do well. What particular medication are you taking? I took Premarin for four months last year, and while it did help with the flashes and night sweats, it did little to help with my anxiety, stress and mood swings. If anything, it seemed to make things worse.
Avatar f tn Hi, I was just discussing hot flashes with someone who works for a Naturopath. She complained to him of her terrible hot flashes causing her to get up several times each night to towel off and change. The Naturopath recommended Vitamin E supplements. Not sure what dosage. But she started taking them and said she hasn't had night sweats since. Worth a shot. Good luck!
Avatar f tn After this and beginning the Tamoxifen ,I suffered severe depression, hot flashes, excessive sweating . I began Effexor and found it helped the depression but not the flashes. Now a year later, I have started having severe ups and downs and mood swings and the sweating still there among other things. I have been taking the B1 and E suggested. can not find the periden c. no help I finally am seeing an M.D.
Avatar f tn If you can tolerate Effexor XR, it does help with the hot flashes and mood problems. However, it will give you a horrible headache/ill feeling for the first week. Once you are on the medicine, it works really well. Getting off the medicine is equally horrible. I'm 2 years into tamoxifen, just weaned off Effexor in early March after a year and a half on it.
Avatar f tn My problem is not only do I feel like I'm on fire constantly, my cloth are on and off, on and off. I sleep with a fam or airconditioner and I also get so cold with shills that I sleep with 3 blankets. I can only compare menapause to HELL. Advise: Keep off the caffeen (Coffee, coke, tea), it will make the hot flashes more intense.
Avatar n tn Usually exercise helps, rather than making hot flashes worse. A heathful diet is a good idea for your general health, and while it may or may not improve your symptoms, it should not make them worse. A normal multivitamin should not worsen things either, but niacin, esp. in larger doses, can cause a reaction--"flushes" that might feel similar to hot flashes.
Avatar f tn There are several antidepressants that can reduce hot flashes. Accupuncture was rated equal to Effexor in one study for reducing hot flahes. Regular exercise had been shown to both increase bone mass and decrease hot flashes. If you are concerned about BC, it makes sense to try some of the (probably) safer alternatives...
378102 tn?1215571666 Finally my hot flashes are almost gone... maybe one a day now down from 1000 a day last September.... I was also told no soy products as I have thyroid problems on top of everything else.. the flashes do stop... now I am having visiting vegas flashes expecting 118 today... yeah.....
Avatar f tn I have been having terrible hot flashes and I don't want to go on hormone therapy so my Dr prescribed Prozac and that didn't help. We tried Effexor which I have been taking for 6 weeks and it helps tremendously but it is ruining my sex life. I took Wellbutrin years ago and it didn't affect my sex life so I'm wondering if this could be a help with my hot flashes.
Avatar n tn I remember the chills seemed to be even worse than the hot flashes; they were almost painful. It has gotten better for me, improved. it seems like most things eventually do pass?

Avatar m tn Hi. My head feels foggy like I am not quite here and I will suddenly get so hot with beads or perspiration. A few seconds later the intense heat calms down. I also start feeling sick to my stomach 15-20 minutes after eating and feel like I may vomit. I have lost 25 lbs in two months without trying. I am a 53 year old female. I started suffering sever hot flashes about 3 years ago after my mom died. I also quit having monthly cycles and have not had one for three years.
11852 tn?1216841443 Just got from the endo. Good news is all my scans came back clean, so it looks like I'm cancer-free. I would be doing the happy dance, but I'm too dam tired to really care. Sad isn't it! Doc ask me how I was feeling and I told her about the extreme fatigue I've felt for a long time. I asked if there could be other causes besides thyroid history and the menopause. Her theory is I'm depressed and Effexor (taking for hot flashes) isn't working.
Avatar m tn Effexor HAS worked for many people for anxiety disorders, but like Paxiled said, it tends to be very activating and isn't the most OPTIMAL first line medication to try. The SSRI medications are a more appropriate med to try first, when anxiety is the primary issue.
Avatar n tn I have been on tamofin since Jan. 2008 am experiencing horrible hot flashes. At least I think they are hot flashes, body temperature off, feel clammy and sweaty. Mood swings. I s this all part of the side effects? This discussion is related to Tamoxifin side effects.
Avatar f tn i am switching from effexor to citalopram because the cost is cheaper. i have been taking effexor for mild depression, insomnia, and hot flashes.
Avatar f tn Increased anxiety is very common when going into peri, and those ‘3 am wake-up calls’ sound like classic night sweats! Many doctors are prescribing Effexor to help with hot flashes and night sweats these days, so it may be that they became more obvious when you decreased the dosage. I don’t blame you for being cautious though, I’ve heard several women say that they had nasty withdrawals when trying to quit Effexor.
