effexor for fibromyalgia

Hello MH family. I tried posting this in the Pain Management forum. No one answered. Not too many people over there. I thought I would see if someone here may have some insight into an ongoing problem a friend of mine is having. She's 40 yrs old, suffers from migraines, takes Effexor for depression and thinks she may have fibromyalgia.

Within one month I went to my heart doctor begging for Nortriptyline (something I used previously for Fibromyalgia) they prescribed it and it helped 50% but still my anxiety was bad, and other symptoms were present. My psychologist allowed me to go back on Effexor (Venlafaxine HCL) and I was excited. Then slowly I started getting severe anxiety and tension headaches. These last few months I have done countless things thinking this or that would fix it and do the trick.

Hi, i´ve been on Effexor for almost a year. Let me tell you my story and ask you if you´ve had similar problems. My doctor and I tried several medications until we found that Effexor and Prozac were the right mix for me. I can´t complain because after 2 years with major depression, I found something that helped. However, in the meantime I´ve become allergic to peanuts and ibuprofen. I have asthma and allergies since I was a child, but I was never allergic to those items until a few months back.

well, i believe the psychiatric problems came first- i am on effexor xr 300mg, wellbutrin 300mg, trazodone 300mg, and seroquel xr.400mg- changing for effexor VERY GRADUALLY to cymbalta- for the pain. i have always had anxiety that i feel mostly in my stomach, vomit alot when stressed- and then am constipated most of the other time- the doctor thinks it is IBS, the pcos i have had since my 20's (34 now).

On the positive side...for some effexor works great without too many negative side effects and it takes effect fairly quickly. On a personal note....after much trial and error, I take wellbutrin. I get the best relief of my symptoms with the least side effects. I see my primary for everything (smart doc who listens). I went to a rhuematologist years ago who misdiagnosed my fibromyalgia as osteoarthritis.

ve also had fibromyalgia for years, but high doses of Trazadone and Effexor have treated the pain mostly. But I still have a whole host of other diseases commonly seen in fibromyalgia sufferers due to the central nervous system overreacting to stimuli. So it can affect the pulmonary system, esophagus, IBS, chronic fatigue system, heartburn, noncardiac chest pain, etc. etc.

I take 325 mg. of effexor daily and some xanax as needed. All for PTSD. My MD oroginally prescribed the effexor, but the psychiatrist doubled it and gave me more xanax.

My doctor just put me on medication for fibromyalgia today- It is Vicodins for pain. Does Effexor XR and Zoloft help these since he put me on all three?

There are many other treatments for both migraines and fibromyalgia. I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia years ago. I was like a cripple trying to get dressed. Taking a small dose of Trazadone helped me some. Over the years, I kept increasing it which cured most of my symptoms. There is a new fibromyalgia med called Savella which I read praise after praise on another website. Also anti-depressants can serve as pain killers.

Dysrythmia-ATIVAN. I have also been on EFFEXOR for 5 years for severe depression. My dosage has been increased twice in the past month--I now take 187.5 mg...I woke up at about 12 midnight last Sunday and I have no recall of the past 4 days; however, I apparently withdrew $7000.00 from my bank and gambled at the local casino ...I do not drink...PLEASE HELP ME....What happened???????? I really do not think I'm crazy........but AM I?????

I was diagnosed with fibro and degenerative arthritis 6 yrs ago. I also found out recently that I have obstructive sleep apnea, which only serves to complicate matters even further. I was on Lyrica, but have stopped taking it because of the weight gain. As of now, I am taking Klonopin and and benadryl at bedtime so I can sleep. I am going to ask my primary to help me get off the Klonopin because I just don't like being drug dependent.

m on Topamax as well for mood stabilization and Effexor for the depression side of BP. I do know what you mean about the serotonin. I had an oral surgeon give me Tramadol once and it interacted with the Effexor to the point of Serotonin Syndrome. My symptoms began as myalgias and fatigue and I was diagnosed as fibromyalgia and treated with antidepressants for years. How long have you been on the thyroid medication? The cytomel could give you the hot feeling, if the dosage is too high, but 5 mcg is a pretty small dose, as is 25 mcg levo. It does take time for the medication to build in your system and it's not unusual for symptoms to worsen or for new ones to show up, as your body adjusts to the medication. Please post the actual results of your thyroid tests and be sure to include reference ranges, which vary lab to lab.

Hi, My name is Lois (Groggyfroggy) I'm new here. My OBGYN also put me on Effexor for hot flashes and night sweats because I wasn't a candidate for hormone therapy and I'm going thru' menopause. I happen to have POTS, but wasn't put on the medication for the POTS. I became very sick after that with nausea, shakiness, and a most terrible moodiness. I had to be taken off the medication and it took quite a while to get out of my system.

What is the maximum dosage for Effexor XR? Also, is it advisable to take with Lorazapham?

m experiencing from the RA and FMS with Provigil (for fatigue) and Effexor XR (for pain). What do you all think?

My physician did not call in a temporary refill and I could not get any pills sent to me before next week so I had no choice but to withdraw suddenly. I have been without the Effexor for 5 days and I do feel horrible. I have not been out of the house and it is all I can do to wash the dishes and pick a few things up around the house. I too am suffering from dizziness, nausea, constipation, panic-like attacks, and now today I feel like I could cry all day.

Has anyone else taken this combo with Effexor to help with the insomnia? I am open to other suggestions for natural supplements to take with the effexor. It seems to help with the migraines so far. I had only 1 so far in the past 3 wks. Before that, the dr. put me on Celexa and it caused 3 day migraines every week.

I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia after 4 years of fatigue and then having a stiff neck for. a year and then pain. I went to a rheumatologist and on my first and only visit was told it is fibromyalgia. Thank you for your support, it does help to vent!

I have been on Effexor XR since 1999 when they initially thought I was suffering from depression (which actually turned out to be primary progressive MS). They lowered my Effexor XR from 150mg a day to 75 mg aday and put me on 150 mg of Wellbutrin a day as well. I would really prefer not to be on these medications because I believe that the depression they thought I was suffering was a result of nobody believing me when I told them what was wrong.

I have been suffering from chronic pain. My doctor has prescribed Effexor for the depression that goes along with the chronic pain. I've read a little about Effexor and am not sure this is right for me. The dose now is 25mg once a day with food and increasing to 2 times a day as "tolerable". Any one here have experience with this stuff?
