Effexor dosage increase

Common Questions and Answers about Effexor dosage increase

effexor

190673 tn?1259203266 Currently I take 150 mg of effexor for GAD. It helps but not enough. My Q is, can lower doze (in some cases) work better than a higher dose?
Avatar m tn I know of several friends who have gotten wonderful results on Effexor - I don't know their dosage, however. Did your Dr. rx Remeron for sleep? At this dosage, you will have intense sedation...it could carry over into the morning, too...How are you doing on it? The way Remeron works, as the dosage increases, the sedative intensity decreases - I'm not familiar with Campral...
Avatar f tn It's likely you may need a small dosage increase, that's pretty common. You're on a pretty low dose, so you have lots of room to go up. Discuss how you're feeling with your doctor and see if he/she recommends bumping you up a bit. Let us know!
Avatar m tn You've only been on the med a short time. I think it would be premature to throw in the towel. Effexor has a decent success rate, it all depends on the person, and you DID state it worked for you. It's just very possible that you just need a higher dose. What may work for me may not work for you and vice versa, so its impossible to make medication decisions based on anecdotal evidence from others.
Avatar n tn For the first month or so, I had some negative side effects as I started an SSRI like Lexapro. In fact, whenever I start, increase, or decrease dosage, there is an adjustment period. The good thing, however, is that they subside substantially once I reached the 'target' dosage for what I was taking. Remember, that these do not work immediately and in fact they actually put me more on edge for a little while, but are great in the long term in my opinion. Keep us posted!
Avatar f tn Hi there. I wanted to let you know that the highest FDA recommended dosage for Effexor XR is 300mg. So, I wonder what your husband's internist meant? Yes, they can increase the dosage if you are becoming too "adjusted" to that dosage, but in some cases it is best to just switch to another med altogether. I highly recommend seeing a Psychiatrist. These are MDs who are professionals in the area of psych meds and will know exactly what to do.
1166402 tn?1303847056 They have a generic Effexor.....stay away from it. Many reports from many people are saying it is not near as effective as the name brand. I take 2Mgs of Klonopin a day, but my system is so used to it that it no longer causes me to be sleepy. Also keep in mind that you have not even touched the tip of iceburg with antidepressants.
Avatar f tn Give it at least 4 weeks after the dosage increase to see if it works. If not, there's always effexor and a host of other alternatives. Be sure to tell your doctor of these changes.
Avatar f tn Should you experience symptoms when you have dosage increase? I have been taking 75mcg for 8 days after increasing from 50 mcg. The lower dosage made me feel dizzy and so tired so endo told me to start 75 mcg. But I have been feeling a little jittery, nauseous and achy all weekend. Is it normal to have this after increase and I should try to tough it out for a few days? Or is this a reaction I should be concerned about it?
Avatar f tn t helping as much as it used to, I saw a psychiatrist who advised that I continue the Effexor (same dosage) and add Lexapro 1xday 10mg. He also prescribed Ambien for insomnia and Ativan for panic attacks. I feel better as far as anxiety goes but symptoms of depression are very much still there. I have no energy at all. No motivation. If it were up to me, I would stay in bed all day. Would a stimulant be helpful in my situation?
656243 tn?1231288052 As your body gets used to the medication, your doctor may increase the dosage. I happen to be on a VERY high dose of it -- 300 mg. That dosage is even over the recommended maximum of 225 mg, but my doctor, I think, thinks it's o.k. At one time, I was on 375 mg! I felt that was way too high, so he decreased it to 300 mg. I've been on every dose inbetween. Please give the medication a chance to work. I know it's hard, but it takes time to kick in. Hang in there!
Avatar f tn After my surgery I was prescribed Effexor for my mood swings and hot flashes. The doctor has continued to increase the dosage up to the highest = 150 mg per day. All it has done for me is turn me into a zombie. Yesterday morning I could not be woke up by my cell, which is right beside me or my land line which is beside me on my nightstand. My boyfriend came over to check on me after trying to call me 10 times.
477600 tn?1211421159 You are experiencing Effexor withdrawl symptoms. People who run out of Effexor have VERY bad experiences. GET YOUR MEDS NOW! CALL SOMEONE WHO CAN HELP YOU GET YOUR MEDS!
Avatar n tn My doctor tald me to take 37.5 mg the first week then increase to 75 mg after that. I did not increase the dosage because i feel like my heart is beathing thru my chest sumtimes and sumtimes when i laying down its worse. I do not know if this is just my body having the panixc attacks and i need to up my dose or if it is a more serious problem and need to consider a different med.
429925 tn?1203905115 What is the maximum dosage for Effexor XR? Also, is it advisable to take with Lorazapham?
647120 tn?1256601651 I thought I had a stomach flu because every time I eat for the past 3 days, I feel very nauseated and have lots of burping. Also have light-headedness increasing. The only change is I weaned off of Effexor under doctor's care over the past 3 weeks and am now off of it but still taking morphine 30 mg 3x daily plus Tramadol/Ultram 200 mg/day. I've been on these last 2 drugs 2 and 4 months, respectively. I also stopped trying to take Neurontin because it gives me terrible nerve twitches.
Avatar f tn Hi I was on effexor without anything else. after being on it for a year, my depression became worse, i became suicidal, cutting myself....and also, manic in that i desired to do things i never wanted or even thought of before. I came off effexor and it was the worst withdrawal I have ever had. I still have bird beak grinding sounds in brain.ever so often, but when i was coming off of it, I had it every twenty minutes for two weeks.
Avatar m tn Just know that it may take 3-6 weeks to see an effect, and maybe even an increase in the dosage. Many people take 20 m.g. at least twice a day so you might have to go through a step increase. You'll start feeling like your old self again soon! The doctor put me on Cymbalta early this year and not only did it not work, but I had the most God-awful withdrawals after taking it for just a short time!!! It was horrible!
Avatar n tn The main thing with Effexor is finding the right dosage. thats not always easy but u have to keep going to the doc if ur still getting symptoms. My personal opinion unless ur having bad side effects continue with effexor but keep raising the dosage if not enough. Another good thing about effexor is that its one of the few antidepressants that do not cause weight gain. when u feel like ur starting to get better keep on that dose for a while then from there on lower it gradually.
Avatar n tn Personally wouldn't try Effexor, but it works for many. After bad experiences with Paxil, I'm not going anywhere near Effexor. Also, if your main problem is anxiety and you don't have significant depression, I'm not sure Effexor would be right for you, since it targets norepinephrine receptors as well as serotonin. Unfortunately, the only way to learn what works is to try it.
Avatar f tn I have been off of it for about six months now and never been better. I, too, was told to increase the dosage. I was up to 150mg and told to increase to 225mg. The meds made me miserable and I had tried to quit them before. However, the withdrawals are horrible. I got a second opinion from another doctor, who weened me off of effexor. You HAVE TO WEEN OFF. Trust me, when I say this. I will never, ever, go back on that medication ever again.
Avatar f tn I am currently on Effexor 7mg. I started at 37.5 for about two weeks, seemed to be working then started to get panic again so my doctor increased to where I am now. Yesterday I went back to the doctor for a follow up, she now wants to increase to 150mg because this week I have become panic again. I am nervous to this high as I don't know how my body will react. I never had to take medication before.
