effexor

Barbara- I tapered effexor with a lot of difficulty. When I went off for two days, I was nuts, crying all the time and having the brain zaps. So, my psych put me on prozac for a few weeks. So far, it has helped a lot. I plan to go off all anti-depressants to get pregnant, but if you need something just to bridge the gap with effexor, which is an SNRI, then prozac helps, even though it's an SSRI.
and I decided that the effectiveness of Zoloft for my anxiety had waned after 3-4 years. He choose effexor XR as a new med. After taking 150 mg of the effexor XR for a little over 1 month, I decided it wasn't right for me. My libido became non-existent, I was gained weight, my digestive system seemed out-of-wack, and I'm not sure that it helped my anxiety.
Has anyone taken effexor and, if so, did you experience any weight related side-effects. I am worried about gaining weight and will not take this medicine until I find out. I'm just scared because SSRIs cause gain. Even though this is not an SSRI, it could cause weight gain.
Can anyone give me an idea of how long it usually takes for your metabolism to recalibrate after stopping effexor and/or Lexapro? I've gained significant weight while on these drugs (despite an intense exercise program and careful diet). My nutritionist and MD told me that the drugs likely altered my metabolism, but no one can tell me how long it will take to correct that. Most frustrating, I've noticed that since I stopped taking both, my weight gain has accelerated.
it is cheaper for me to pay outside of my insurance .. insurance would cost me $10.00 flat fee for it .. Walgreens has some kind of nat'l contract I *think* with the med?
Not having insurance, effexor XR is quite pricey, $150 + a month and I had felt it was time to get off the drug. I had been reading (and crying while I read) other peoples experiences stopping effexor. My doctor put me on a slow three month withdraw program. and I can say I am day #2 off effexorXR! But that is about the extent of the excitedness. Can't sleep, or when I do, nightmares and starnge dreams insue.
People living in fear of challenging their doctors, people afraid of treament because of cost, people afraid of being rejected. Its ludicrious and I can not believe that I live in a country that perpetuates this, no less a community! It undermines the entire basis of trust and confidentiality. Its a disappointing commentary on our quality of life.

To me Ritalin is a fantastic antidepressant and an augment to taking other more basic antidepressants, such as SSRIs, effexor, Cymbalta, etc. It seems to work quickly and improves your happiness profile and state of mind, makes you clearer thinking, provides more energy. My problem is there is no way that my doctor in this small town would ever consider it, so I have to order it from foreign pharmacies and it gets a bit expensive.
One day i decided i wanted sex and chocolate instead of being numb.. didn't renew the effexor script.. OUTTA body experience.. worse than a bad LSD trip.. The walmart pharmacist moved me right to the front of the line when she saw me and told me you cant CT off effexor, so when u decide to go off, if yr doc isnt about, wean:) Meanwhile, to further my mindset today, I took the puppy for a two hr walk on the beach. Lovely.
Anti depressants like Cymbalta and effexor have been designed especially to take advantage of pain relief by blocking norepinephrine reuptake. There are patches like Lidoerm that are put directly onto the skinwhich are known to reduce pain. There is a cream called Capsaisin that can be rubbed into an effected area to inhibit the release of a substance known to add to pain.
effexor is evil. I was using it after the loss of my sister and my uterus. I went off effexor and went on Topomax and I've lost 30 lbs. I lost my appetite at first (good riddance) and had a minimal amount of tingling in my fingertips, but this stuff has been great. The headaches have improved and I can't wait until the FDA officially approves it for weight loss. So what if the soda tastes bad. Who needs it.
The headaches are killing me, the tinnitus won't stop, my kitchen is a wreck, and I had to beg the pharmacy for an Imitrex because it would cost me $150 for 9 pills! I really screwed up by quitting my job, but in a way I had to, bottom out to get better, you know? WW, does the ringing get any better? I took probably 15 aspirin yesterday, through about 8-10 hours. God, when will I ever learn? I can't believe I haven't killed myself yet. I'm terrified to drive and have a seizure.
I have epilepsy, could I go on this too? I was taking effexor and gained 60 lbs and am trying to find a way to loose this weight. Sounds like everyone here is having luck with loosing weight on this b12. Do B12 pills work the same?
The worse part of this whole thing is that I can't go to the mall or even walmart, which is what I like to do alot. I tried and it was a disaster, because I almost passed out there. So I no longer even go any place except to my therapy or Dr.'s appts. It seems like everyday I wake up with a headache everyday, and when I have a headache it makes my dizziness and light headedness worse too. You know the only thing good out of this nightmare is that I lost some weight lol.
oh and the shot where I live is included in a visit with the doctor and cost 70 dollars. insurance does not cover it.
And just like a lot of other people on this site I wasn't showing any noticible manic symptoms untill I went on an antidepressent (effexor) which brought around the diagnosis. Has much research been done on this phenomena? I sure think our combined testimonies support the idea. Oh, and cowgirlnerd, keep on thinking up these interesting questions!
At walmart you can fill a prescription for just about a dollar a pill for Phentermine. CVS and smaller place cost more to have it filled. Most medical insurance will not pay for the doctors appointment or the pills. It ended up costing me $35 for the doctors visit (I was given a 5 minute time slot) and $30 dollars for the pills every month. I have been off the pills since March and have put on 7 pounds. But I am fine with that because I am almost 35 yrs old, 5'9" and now weigh 130.
for your hands when trying to sleep i would hook up a small desk fan and position it so it can hit only your hands...this at least doesnt cost anything except a little higher eletricity bill and the noise of the fan too can be nice and calming so it puts our minds on something else besides this horrible itch!!!!! I used to have to take a fan with my everytime i would have a sleep over at any of my friends houses....they used to cal me foot fan LOL how embarassing is that!!!!
