Effexor constipation

Common Questions and Answers about Effexor constipation

effexor

Avatar f tn I have been battling severe constipation for about 2 years now that came on suddenly and I have gain 20 lbs in that same time frame. I am wondering if the Effexor is causing the constipation - but why did it take almost 2-3 years for it to show up???
Avatar f tn A side effect of Effexor can be constipation. Please discuss with your doctor. He may suggest Miralax for you.
Avatar f tn I have been on antidepressives since 2000. For the last 3 years, it has been Effexor XR...following my daughter's death, my dose was increased to 225mg/daily. Well, when my medical insurance changed...I determined that I had to switch to a generic...could no longer afford the copays. In January, my MD directed me on how to wean myself from Effexor XR...so I could begin a generic form of Celexa. My God. If this is what withdrawal is like, I am fortunate that I never abused drugs.
Avatar f tn My psychiatrist wants me to try this new anti-depressant. I am currently on Effexor. Has anyone taken Pristiq and how did they do on it? Thanks!
Avatar f tn Like most of you I was put on Effexor to help with a depressing, stressful time in my life. That was 15 years ago and may I add about 75 pounds less ago. I have gained a tremendous amount of weight taking this drug. At 55, I am trying to eat clean, exercise, lose weight and get in better physical condition. I have wanted to stop taking this drug but just like all of you the side effects were so bad I kept going back on them after usually one to two days.
Avatar m tn Symptoms, every day for the past 1.5 months: Weight gain (20 lbs in 3 months)- I'm very active and eat well Distended stomach- so much that I cannot wear clothes with tight waistbands Abnormal stool- watery/greasy pencil shaped Gas- frequent and hard to pass (worse in evenings) Excessive muscle twitching Difficulty remembering names, addresses, and things I used to be sharp with No drastic change in diet.
Avatar n tn Which has more side effects, Paxil or effexor?? Which is easier to ween off of Paxil or Effexor? When you ween off of a med. do the side effects subside?? I am so scared. Somebody please answer. Thank you so much.
Avatar n tn I finally broke down and went back to the Gastro doctor and he canceled the Zantac and added 37.5 mg of Effexor XR. I cannot understand the reasoning behind this prescription. He stated that the Effexor will help my cramping and spasming intestinal issues. Is this prescription something that is routine? I can't find any info on the web where this type anxiety drug is prescribed for intestinal issues.
Avatar f tn Now he has prescribed Effexor XR. I have been on 37.5 mg for 3 days while stepping down of the Lexapro. Today my anxiety reached a fever pitch. I hate to take benzos but I needed Ativan today. Is this normal? Should I stay with Effexor? I just wish my Lexapro would work again. Thanks for any advice!
329994 tn?1301663248 I went to a new primary today and she told me that she wanted me to consider taking Effexor - she said I should research it and let her know. I wanted to see if anyone on here knew about it. Also, she thought that going to a Rhuematologist probably wouldn't help me with my CFS and I wanted to know your thoughts on that! Thank you!
647120 tn?1256601651 I thought I had a stomach flu because every time I eat for the past 3 days, I feel very nauseated and have lots of burping. Also have light-headedness increasing. The only change is I weaned off of Effexor under doctor's care over the past 3 weeks and am now off of it but still taking morphine 30 mg 3x daily plus Tramadol/Ultram 200 mg/day. I've been on these last 2 drugs 2 and 4 months, respectively. I also stopped trying to take Neurontin because it gives me terrible nerve twitches.
Avatar f tn My psychiatrist put me on Effexor about a year ago. He had me taking 150 mg twice a day. At first, I thought that it was a great drug and that I finally found something to help my depression. However, about a couple weeks after I was on it, I started having horrible side effects.
Avatar f tn d try the safer version which is Effexor. Basically, when the patent was up on the Effexor and the generic of the medicine became available. Which means, the makers of Effexor wouldn't be raking in the $$$ on effexor anymore because venlafaxine, generic version would be available. The manufacturer of the company (I think it's Lilly) created Cymbalta, a half-fast replica of Effexor (just chemically tweeked a little).
Avatar f tn I just started Effexor and after only one pill, 75 mg, I developed severe panic, tremors, anxiety, hyperventilated, it was horrible. And only after one pill. has this happened to anyone else??
Avatar n tn I had sweating with Effexor and Cymbalta. It's not just the discomfort; you don't want to add sweating if you already have oily skin - breakouts. I think Prozac caused it, but I'm not sure. I'm currently getting by with a very low dose of amitriptyline. Not a lot of sweating with it, but it can cause weight gain and constipation. I need to gain weight right now, so it's okay.
Avatar m tn Can I take Tramodol with Effexor XR, Clonazepam, Trazadone, Lunesta, Gabapentin, Hydroxyzine. I am on all these medications for clinical depression and panic/anxiety disorder. But now I was recommended to take Tramodol for pain. Will there be a bad interaction with the drugs I just named? I would like to know each drug I have listed seperately and it's interaction with tramodol. Example....Can I take Effexor XR with Tramodol? Can I take Clonazepam with Tramodol?? Etc. ect.
Avatar f tn Three years ago I was proclaiming how wonderful effexor is--now I realize this medication did help my depression but oh what a price I have paid! My depression began to ease in 3 days! I also developed a craving for chocolate (I have always hated chocolate-it give me a headache and made me nauseated). I began eating sweets (something I NEVER ate) like a crazed person. I couldn't stop. After 30 days on 75 mg. I began to get depressed again so I started on 150 mg.
Avatar n tn I was put on effexor for anxiety, depression, IBS... that was ten years ago and I'm still taking the damn things and my dose is now 300mg a day. Try another solution or you will end up with dreadful side effects whilst trying to wean off effexor. I now have myoclonus which could (not definite) be due to effexor. I did stop taking effexor for about 6 months but my depression became so severe as nothing else helped so I had to start taking it again.
Avatar n tn I said to him it is not like that for everyone because I used to eat in excess only when I was depressed and anxious. Another unbearable problem is constipation, from which I have suffered all my life. Effexor makes it even worse. So the doctor changed me to Pristiq and said side effects will not be as bad as with Effexor. After taking it for 1 month I kept eating and gaining weight. And my menstrual cycle went crazy (one and a half months thinking I started an early menopause!).
151951 tn?1267988345 I've been on 75 mg. of Effexor XR for about 4 years now. I do realize that this is a very small dose to be on in comparison to some people. A year before that (when I was first diagnosed with Generalized Anxiety/Panic Attacks), my dr. prescribed me Paxil. While on that, I gained upwards of 30 lbs. in only 1 year!? It worked for my attacks, but after a while, it's effectiveness wore off and my body seemed to have plateaued. The weight-gain was out of control, so I asked my dr.
1296191 tn?1280699873 t improve at all, so I went to my regular doctor a while later. She was the one who told my family and I about the fatty liver and constipation. She suspected that I had a scratch in my large intestine and gave me some special painkillers that target the digestive system. The painkillers lost their potency, and the pain persisted. My mother took me back to see my doctor, who was at a loss. The one suggestion she gave me was that I might have an ovarian cyst.
Avatar n tn I switched from effexor to wellbutrin. I had to be on both medications at the same time for a long time because of the effexor withdrawal... it was so hard to come off the effexor, I was at the lowest dose for a very long time, 25mg, because I couldn't get off of it the withdrawal symptoms were too bad for me.
