Effexor is most effective for my depression and ADD. Zoloft is most effective for my obsessive thinking, but also makes me very tired. Can I take both at the same time? ( Currectly take Effexor XR 150mg.. Used to take Zoloft 100mg. daily.) If not, is there a different med that can be taken with the Effexor to help control the obsessing?
Weird, I think you did the right thing, because Effexor works in the 2 different areas. I weaned down on Effexor to go over to Celexa, and once you're down to a low dose it's not so bad. You should still expect some withdrawal effects, like the spins and zaps, but going over to Zoloft, that drug will ease it up a bit. It's good to be vigilant with your meds and question anything, I think passivity with meds can be dangerous.
medication cocktails people are seeing these days for OCD and especially the pure O type? I am currently on 112.5 mg of Effexor and moving up to 150 mg soon. I was "fine" for about 6 years after my last bout of medication (Risperdal and Zoloft) that I quit due to horrible weight gain. So, I am also looking to find the most weight neutral combination as well.
I am recently pregnant and withdrawing from effexor. my dr has me on 50mg of zoloft but these withdrawal symptoms are really starting to annoy me. I am missing work today because of them. my head feels like it's short-circuiting, i'm exhausted, and i can't focus (due to the buzzing in my head). i didn't quit cold-turkey, i tapered off this past week. Today is ten times worse than 3 days ago (1st day without effexor). how long does this last?
Has your doctor prescribed this for you and said it's o.k.? I take 300 mg of Effexor XR every day, and .5mg of clonazepam in the morning, and 1 mg at bedtime, and I'm fine. He just recently added Wellbutrin to the regimen. I'm wondering why you are asking this. If you doctor prescribed this for you, he/she must feel it's safe for you to take. I'd like to know more. The combination of wellbutrin and zoloft was actually a smart move by your clinician. That combination is like a two in one knockout punch, in that if you don't respond then, we know it's not a matter of which neurotransmitter system that needs to be enhanced, but rather a matter of how to enhance them. With that being said, perhaps you should try an MAOI. EMSAM is the popular MAOI on the market right now, and luckily, there are no food restrictions at the lowest dose.
I too am on 175 - 200mg of Zoloft and I admit when first starting the medication I was feeling quite dizzy and nauseated. Dosage started at 50mg, then after a week increased, and every week increased until I reached 175mg. In the past my doctor has had me on Celexa and Effexor but Zoloft seems to work the best, for me that is. Everyone is different. I waver between 175 - 200mg depending on the kind of day I'm having.
Yesterday my doctor upped my dose to 300 mg cz of no to minimal improvement after a month I am also taking seroxat and dogmatil. Do u think the upping my effexor dose my help and kick in ? I am really sick of anxiety and depression . I also have obsessive thoughts . All aspects of my life are affected badly and I feel that it is hard to live this way. Can u plz help me . Has anyone ever heard of, or been on, the combination of 40mg Prozac, 30mg Dexedrine, and 4-6mg Ativan daily? I was on this for 7 years, along with narcotics for terrible migraines. Been drug free for 3 years with no depression, but man...was it awful getting off all that stuff!
Would love to hear from anyone with this combo or hear any stories about Zoloft, Prozac, & Effexor side effects and withdrawals.
I have taken both Zoloft and Effexor for long periods (not any longer because I am on differnt AD's now) What I can tell you is that (at least in my case) I found Zoloft to be far LESS effective than Effexor.
Zoloft is a one trick poney and effects only Serotonin. Effexor effects both Serotonin and Norephinepherine. Big difference in the two drugs. I am pretty sure you will find Zoloft much less effective, as most people do.
in the last few months I went from 150 mg Effexor to 75 mg.....tired and cranky all the time, thought it was the effexor....On July 12 doctor switched me from effexor 75 mg. to 20mg prozac...prozac made me rage...after 11 days of taking prozac, I quit taking everything (July 23rd). Now I am irritable, short tempered and very impatient with people....are these withdrawals or signs of needing to to back on another anti depressant.
My concern is that I was previously on Zoloft 50mg. and it gave me real bad headaches raised my blood pressure and sent me on a emergent run to the hsp. emergency room,,I am concerned about starting this medicience that it will cause the same problems or worse. My O.B. says they are different and that I should try the effexor. What does everyone else think?
New doc says Effexor is a good drug for very depressed people but not for primary anxiety. She is taking me off Effexor 75 mg and onto Zoloft. I have only been on Effexor 6 1/2 weeks. My taper schedule is 37.5 Effexor 1 week, 37.5 every other day plus 25 mg Zoloft 2cd week, no Effexor and 50 mg Zoloft 3rd week. This sounds reasonable to me but I have myself a nervous wreck anyway. I'm scared of withdrawal. I'm also scared Zoloft won't work and I'll feel this way forever.
m tapering so I use it when I normally would have taken that extra dose of Norco. I have found it helps my energy level and anxiety. I am on 50mg of Zoloft and my doctor knows about the Elimidrol. However, like everything else, things work different for different people.
I have only taken the nighttime formula once and it made me really sleepy within the hour. I'm sure I will start using it more as I taper more. I do also have visteril so it makes me sleepy too.
Yup there are studies out now that are proving that the ssri/snri meds can't be used long term like MS's or maoi's. So these meds aren't the wonder drugs they were touted to be. I think the those drugs are great for situational depression, like a family death, losing a job, traumatic events which have triggered depression, but long term treatement as a stand alone drug, I dare say they don't. I've been on Luvox, Zoloft, Welbutrin, Effexor, Celexa, Cipralex and Cymbalta.
The doctor put me on Zoloft 50 mg 2 tab day and 2 tabs evening starting from one tab and tappering off effexor plan. I took zoloft fot about 1&1/2 month but I did not feel god, Now my doctor has changed me to seroxat cr 25mg. The details are as follow:

I went down to 5mg and I also took some diet pills 2 months after reducing the dose and the combination of these pushed my over the edge and the depression is back. my doctor increased the dose to 20mg of lexapro ans .75 xanax when necessary . Now another problem is that I panic over my health and I feel sorry for myself and it feels like I cannot think of ANYTHING ELSE and I am still depressed after a month of dosage increase.
I have severe anxiety, and the dr. I'm currently seeing has put me on a few meds, such as Effexor, celexa and for one month gave me lorazepam.
He took me off the Lorazepam after a month, gave it back to me two months later, and look me off of it again.
I ended up in the Er, after using Celexa, and Effexor ( @ different times ) , b/c I ended up having worse panic/anxiety attacks.
Each time I was told from seperate Dr's, that these meds can only make it worse. .
