hi,My DR,switched me from ativan to xanax on this past Thurs,I feel kinda more depressed and nausted,He also gave me Effexor 75 mg to take i took it on Friday and i dont know if it was the mixture of meds but my blood pressure dropped as well as my heart rate dropped,usually when i was on ativan heart ratewas in 90s it is in the 60s now,Im so afraid i havent taking another effexor,,,,i take the xanax because my anxiety is bad but i feel so emotionless has anyone taking the combination and how di
yes it could be from the xanax and it's not a good idea to take it much. Effexor can help with depression but also made me feel detached and impotenet so I no longer take it and take welbutrin instead. I'm not sure if it's helping but at least I won't have that problem.
I take Celexa (citalopram) and I have taken Effexor XR in the past. The Effexor was best for my GAD, but I still needed Klonopin (.5 mg 2x a day) to keep the panick attacks away. BTW I quit the Effexor xr because I switched to insurance that only covers generics. I had no problem tapering off it unlike some horror stories I've heard from others. I now take the Celexa and klonopin and seem to be fine for now.
I was on xanax and went to the ER the other day for a bad panic attack and they switched me to Klonopin. I just started taking zoloft and have major anxiety from it. I don't feel like the klonopin is working and want to go back to the xanax which is what my DR prescribed. Do I have to wait any about of time before going back to the xanax from the klonopin? I took my last dose at 530 tonight. I just heard that klonopin stays in your system longer and don't want the two to interact.
Hi, all I have been on Effexor-XR 150 mg since the birth of my son in November of 2002 and then they put me on Risperdal 1 milligram in February of 2006 and now as of March 7, 2008 I am weaning off both. My doctor has me taking 75 mg of Effexor for 1 week and then 37.5 mg of Effexor for 1 week and then stop. She has me weaning off the Risperdal by taking 0.5 mg for a week then 0.5 mg every other day for a week. I have had horrible weight gain with both of these medications.
If you are taking both Effexor and Xanax, alcohol, especially when consumed in a 9 day binge style, is the same as playing Russian Roulette.
When you say you've heard that it can take several weeks to return to normal, are you referring to the mixing of high potency psychotropic meds and drinking?
I would think, as did rls, that if it's been 6 weeks since you've had a drink, you should not be feeling this way.

Since the Neurologist I was sent to after my ER visit and 24 hour hospital stay could not find anything specifically wrong other than a bulging disk in my neck, he started me on the Effexor at 150 mg and suggested I might go as high as 300. He felt since my dad had died suddenly in my early 20's I was experiencing some anxiety over that when the stroke scenario presented itself.
I feel for you!!!!!!! :( I have panic disorder, and thankfully don't take Xanax every day. I only take it when I'm starting to actually have a panic attack. I take Effexor every day, though. It's been the only daily drug that's helped me control my panic, and thankfully my doctor says it's okay to take during pregnancy. I'm 11 weeks and I'm down to 75 mg of Effexor and only .25 mg of Xanax only as needed (which is about less than once a week). Good luck, girl!!!
Effexor works for anxiety too. I was on it myself for several years. But, it can take weeks for it to start working.
Did your prescribing doc tell you to quit the Effexor cold turkey? And is this the same doc who put you on 3mg of Xanax until you got back up to your old dosage of 75mg of the Effexor? You said "my doctor AT THE TIME." Is there now another chef in your chemical kitchen? I'm sorry to seem befuddled by your post.........I must be overly tired.
I have been on Xanax for anxiety for 15 years and diffrent anti depressants for about the same. I found Xanax and Effexor XR work really well with balancing out depression and anxiety. Xanax have extreme withdrawl symptoms though, so you might want to look at taking them or any Benzo VS Trying Buspar or another anti anxiety medication for longterm health purposes first.
Recently I stopped taking My Effexor XR for about a week and I fell into a deep, deep, depression.
Klonopin and Xanax are actually quite different medications. Xanax is probably better for this purpose, assuming it works, since it works much faster, whereas klonopin stays in the body longer but has a milder effect at first. The proper way to do this is to go back on the last dose of Effexor at which you felt fine, and taper more slowly, much more slowly.
Have you been prescribed Xanax? If you find yourself overstimulated a lot, did this always happen, or only since you've been on Effexor? I ask because Effexor is a very stimulating antidepressant, as it targets adrenaline as well as serotonin.
No, there is a "discontinuation syndrome" with Effexor unless you taper off very gradually, and if you have been on Xanax at more than a low dose, and for very long, there is a risk of seizure activity if you stop it abruptly.
You need to get in touch with your doctor to obtain refills and/or instructions for discontinuing these meds.

t take long for 1, 2 and even 4Mgs of Xanax to become useless in helping with the anxiety and panic attacks. Not to mention once you reach the 2Mg a day mark your body will have developed an actual physical dependency for the drug. At that dosage when you need to eventually taper off Xanax it is not fun because the withdrawl is horrible.
Keep in mind that Xanax is both a saving grace for panic dissorder, but also can eventually result in addiction at higher dosages.
My Dr. is prescribing the Buspar, in addition to my Lexapro, and Xanax. Cause I told her I can't take the Xanax all day long cause it knocks me out, and right after I come off Xanax I go right back into a constant panic attack. We are going to try to give the Lexapro a little longer to build up (it's only been 15 days) and if it doesn't work or gets worse by next week, we're going to talk about weaning over to Effexor. I HATE ANXIETY!!!!!

t last long before i had to go to .50 mg and higher almost two yrs later i have to dissolve my Xanax at bedtime and I have to take 4 to 5 mg EVERY night to get any sleep at all. This dose for me is lethal I only weigh 96lbs and I have Hep C I have been trying to ween off of Xanax with no success. I get down to about 2 dissolved mg for 1 or 2 nights before I can't take the shaking and sleep deprivation.
My doctor put me all the way up to 150 mg of effexor and it made me worse. I've only tried xanax once recreationally so I don't really know the side effects. But my doctor reduced me to 37.5 mg of effexor and 20 mg of celexa (citalopram) plus 5 mg twice a day of clonazepam.
I have found that the clonazepam has helped a lot, although I have been feeling extremely tired. But at least I don't have a constant knot in my stomach or get panic attacks.

So I've been posting under Anxiety, but my psych has diagnosed me with severe depression which I'm not surprised. I'm 21 and I can say I've been depressed for most of my life, im constantly crying over things in my past because of violence and other things I experienced. I feel like i want to let go of my past and start a new future but my mind keeps torturing things. It makes me remember specific events and I cant get them out of my head.
