About 3 years ago, I was prescribed Effexor XR after having been sent to the Emergency Room by my primary to be evaluated for a stroke (I was 41 at the time). The week before that I had been diagnosed with Bells Palsy and had partial facial paralysis and subsequent to that I started having left sided numbness and weakness especially in my left leg.
Hi there, for about the last 8 weeks I have been having headaches everyday and also experiencing a feeling of sudden numbness that comes on really fast and hard. I compare it to the feeling of when your leg goes numb and you try to walk on it. It's a scary feeling and it happened while driving the other day and almost had to have my daughter take the wheel. Then again tonight at dinner. In the beginning they were happening more but smaller feeling.
I went off Effexor a few years ago, and did experience some nerve pain in my hands and feet, and some surface numbness in my face. Those symtoms lasted for about 8 weeks, but they did eventually go away. I have heard of others who had similar symptoms. There are a number of people who need some kind of antidepressant in order to keep their body chemistry from contributing to depression.
would not take lexapro and effexor together. for effexor withdrawal i take omega3 fish oil caps twice a day//benadryl as needed for dizzyness\\ b12 sublingualtwice a day\\st. johns wort twice a day// vitamin d3 twice a day ---ibuprofen(motrin) as needed for muscle pain. as far as i am concerned, i will never take a prescription rx. for anxiety and depression again. i also have ptsd. i am sticking to st. johns wort and omega 3 fish oil caps. both will treat depression.
I switched from effexor to wellbutrin. I had to be on both medications at the same time for a long time because of the effexor withdrawal... it was so hard to come off the effexor, I was at the lowest dose for a very long time, 25mg, because I couldn't get off of it the withdrawal symptoms were too bad for me.
I take Effexor for depression and forgot to bring it with me on a 3 day getaway with my 2 young boys. My girlfriend who was also there offered me a Xanax for the 8 hr. drive home just in case I lose it (my mind that is). I only took half and it seemed to work great. The drive was a breeze.
Today however, I took my usual dosage of Effexor and now I'm feeling extremely detached. Like I just don't care about anything that is happening - good or bad.
My doctor has suggested that I come off effexor (which i have been on for over 2 years) and start taking Wellbutrin XL. I was to take both of them for 1 week and then stop the effexor and take Wellbutrin only. I have not been feeling very good very tense, anxious, lightheaded and chest pains. I spoke to a pharmasist who suggested stopping the effexor straight away and continuing with the Wellbutrin.
My doctor switched me to Effexor (150 mg) and it really helped with the sadness and suicidal thoughts. But not with excess of sleep, tiredness and total lack of concentration (while reading or having a conversation with someone, my mind just wonders everywhere but where it is supposed to be). My doctor gave me Ritalin (40 mg a day) and it helped a lot with this problem.

Hm, I dunno. I am going to make an appointment with an endo, because I am coming off the effexor and feeling agitated. But I don't know if that is because I am stopping effexor or becoming hyperthyroid?

Had it been a Stroke, you must have experienced neurological symptoms along with numbness and weakness. They could be slurred speech, memory problems, paralysis on one side of the body, difficulty understanding and speaking a language and many others.
The effects of Stroke last for a long time. Since you have no long lasting effects, it was not a Stroke as far as I think.
wants me to take Effexor 37.5mg twice daily to help with the hot flashes and mood swings. My concern is that I was previously on Zoloft 50mg. and it gave me real bad headaches raised my blood pressure and sent me on a emergent run to the hsp. emergency room,,I am concerned about starting this medicience that it will cause the same problems or worse. My O.B. says they are different and that I should try the effexor. What does everyone else think?
