Effexor and numbness

Common Questions and Answers about Effexor and numbness

effexor

The worst is supposed to pass within two weeks, but it could last longer. ? I am effexor-free at week 4, and I am still having strange symptoms. Good luck! Everything will be ok, but make sure you taper down with communication with your doctor.
Do you think the PN was always this bad and reducing the effexor is allowing the pain and numbness to come through, or do you think the additional issues are side-effects of reducing the effexor?
You can get off effexor and using a schedule can help. I stopped taking effexor without adverse side effects, but that is not to say you will not have them. My doctor left it up to me because she knew I would exercise caution on the weaning process. Does your doctor know you are weaning? There is a basic schedule used when weaning from any antidepressant. In your case you could try: Week one: Full dose (75 mg) / half dose (37.5 mg)/full dose /half dose etc. for the week.
Maybe you really need just an adjustment in the effexor up or down ? I've tried Paxil, Zoloft, and Prozac, and I know effexor is tough to start, and tough to stop, but maybe you need it. My daughter had problems cutting back on zoloft when she was pregnant, but she was able to take a lower dose all the way to the last two weeks, and both her and baby are fine. I hope you feel better, if you need to talk, I'm here to listen.
I am active, I am a legal typist and never had pain at all before, now I have severe pain along with tingling and numbness. My hands can not go flat on a desk anymore, they are so tight and can not put them straight down without pain or pressure. Is anyone else getting these side effects?
I went off effexor a few years ago, and did experience some nerve pain in my hands and feet, and some surface numbness in my face. Those symtoms lasted for about 8 weeks, but they did eventually go away. I have heard of others who had similar symptoms. There are a number of people who need some kind of antidepressant in order to keep their body chemistry from contributing to depression.
Hi! I came across this Forum while doing a search on effexor XR & Zofran. I realize it's more than a year since your post but wanted to add...The combo of effexor & Zofran raised my bloodpressure and made my chest hurt so much that I had to be admitted to the hospital. I usually have very low BP. I am on Chemo infusions for a disease called Wegener's Granulamotosis. My next infusion cycle starts in less than a month, therefore I am weaning down on my effexor XR.
My doctor has added Welbutrin (150 mg) to the effexor-that was four days ago and it has helped tremendously and my attitude and mental health are almost back to what I call normal. I don't know yet what my doctor is going to keep me on - should find out this week. There have been no side effects that I can pinpoint regarding effexor - just know that it saved me.
My libido became non-existent, I was gained weight, my digestive system seemed out-of-wack, and I'm not sure that it helped my anxiety. I'm not sure it was related to the effexor XR, but I was bruising very easily, and I was obsessive about spending and "projects" during this time. I should also mention that I am on 30 mg of Adderall XR for ADD. My Dr. decided to switch me to Wellbutrin XR which would also help me quit smoking.
I've been off of my effexor xr for about 5 days now and after talking to my pharmacist and doing some of my own research, ginger seems to help greatly with dizziness and nausea. Here is a link for the effects of ginger and how to take it. I've been chewing a 1/4" piece of peeled, fresh ginger every 4 hours and it is working miracles. Here is the link <a href=http://www.umm.edu/altmed/ConsHerbs/Gingerch.
I feel like I am constantly screaming at my 4 kids and can't focus and have extreme numbness in my hands and get dizzy when I try to lay down or look at a computer screen like this. He said maybe putting me on something like Xanax might be an option but since I am supposed to be taking the family on a vacation next week, he recommended restarting the effexor for now.
I've experienced facial numbness for 7+ months. It is exactly half my face and only numbness, with no accompanying paralysis. My tongue, throat, left arm and outermost 2 fingers are occasionally affected. I've also had pain & vision problems in my left eye (problems focusing - come and goes). Occasionally, I get flashes/waves of numbness across the right side of my face/ear as well.
Hi all, I woke up yesterday morning with numbness all over left side of face and a slight droop. Saw neurologist today who said there was a small palsy there probably brought in by fatigue. He said steriods wouldn't be useful and prescribed me Venlafaxine for the fatigue. Upon reading dosage, instructions etc it looks like it is precribed for anxiety and deepression. Has anyone else been prescribed this for any other reason? I am not depressed or anxious but very fatigued...... Sharon.
I can only imagine how debilitated I would have been in two more days. Come Monday, I have to call me Dr. and explain to him what was really wrong and get a prescription for more effexor. What's scary is that after looking on the internet, I see that the side effects I had are common. he didn't recognize this. I also notice my dose is VERY high. No one else seems to be on 300 mg. Also, who has been on this as long as i?
I have been on effexor xr for 4 1/2 wks. It has done nothing for my anxiety and actually feel worse now agoraphobic. They had me up to 150mg which made me feel unreal and out of it so they put me back down to 75mg. I know its not right for me the side effects are too bad. My question is how to get off I am so scared of the withdrawl symtoms. I have had every s/e on it including confusion muscle tension dizziness insomnia agitation to name a few so will the withdrawl symtoms be worse.
The doctor that put me on it was a joke - he tried other stuff, finally putting me on effexor and when it showed signs of working, he just kept increasing my dosage. Not knowing enough to advocate for myself (and half admitting that I was feeling better), I ended up on 300ml/daily. That was almost 3 1/2 years ago.
Hi there, for about the last 8 weeks I have been having headaches everyday and also experiencing a feeling of sudden numbness that comes on really fast and hard. I compare it to the feeling of when your leg goes numb and you try to walk on it. It's a scary feeling and it happened while driving the other day and almost had to have my daughter take the wheel. Then again tonight at dinner. In the beginning they were happening more but smaller feeling.
I am weaning of effexor and going to a natural route. I am down to 37.5 a day now. I then add 50mg 5htp, rhodioa, b5, b6, and grapesee extract. This is my second attempt and the symptoms are returning.....I get constipated, bloated, nauseated, excess sever explosive gas and my GERD is intensified. I look like I'm pregnant. I don't look like I'm pregnant when at full dose of effexor...112.5mg day. I am also not constipated or bloated and nauseated when I am at the full dose.
My doctor switched me to effexor (150 mg) and it really helped with the sadness and suicidal thoughts. But not with excess of sleep, tiredness and total lack of concentration (while reading or having a conversation with someone, my mind just wonders everywhere but where it is supposed to be). My doctor gave me Ritalin (40 mg a day) and it helped a lot with this problem.
I want my feelings back. I have an appt. tomorrow to see a GP and the next med im onto trying is effexor. I also see a psych in a few weeks, but I'm scared I won't end up going to either because I don't care. Has anyone ever felt this way or can relate to what I'm saying? Any meds that are known to be good for this terrible emotional numbness. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!!!!
Why I was there I asked him about the numbness I had in my head, hands, and feet that I would wake up 2-3 times a night in pain from my hands being numb. They did an exam and said my whole nervous system was inflamed. They sent me for a MRI w/ and w/o contrast on my head,9 blood test(MS,RA,Lupus,Vitamin Dif.and a few more) , and an EEG. He also gave me some Rx. I had all the test done they came back normal. Then I was sent to get an MRI of my neck w/o contrast, and an EMG they came back normal.

Is it possible to have continued symptoms of numbness in the hands, a heavy head feeling and slight tremors for days, even when not experiencing anxiety? In other words can the symphathetic nervous system give you these physical symptoms even when you do not feel any panic or stress?
I also have pain and numbness in my hands, my elbows and ankles hurt and I am experiencing cramping in my legs at night as well. During the day I am experiencing nausea, especially first thing in the morning. My anxiety and fear is terrible.I used to be so confident and now I am a mess. My memory is terrible especially with word recall. Please help, I am in tears.
believes it's post-neuralgic pain, as I had chicken pox at 35 and then a wicked case of Shingles at 40. I'm 45 now and the pain and numbness began last year. Doc wanted me to begin to take a new drug for neuralgic pain, for the life of me, I can't think of the damn name...the adverts show a man's feet standing atop a cactus. I opted to not take it, as, like you I'm on a benzo, Alprazolam, and that does help.
severe panick attacks, heart palps, chest pain and numbness, numb legs and fingertips, aching organs, muscle spasms and twitchs (once my body curled backwards...really scary), fingers turning dark red brown with blisters coming out of fingertips, blotchy vision,.........and yesterday was the first time this happened but i had the same electrical buzzing and vibrating occur in my brain. i thought i was having a stroke. but it sounds like mine was less severe than yours.
gave me an overall general examination and has given me a sampler of effexor XR and asked me to take it for two weeks and then to see him again. I am hesitant on taking any medications but I may have to in the end if these symptoms do not resolve themselves.
He had me on Paxil and then effexor... after my experiences with those, and feeling much worse than I did before... adding anxiety attacks, really bad insomnia, night sweats, dry mouth etc to the symptoms I already had was like jumping from the frying pan into the fire.... So I stopped taking those in late December, and it took about a month and a half before I could sleep normally again. I am curious as to what you are taking though. Also, if I may ask, how did your symptoms develop?
one other thing to note is that I had jaw pain for the next several days after my first episode, as well as chest pain the night that I had taken the Maxalt. I had also been taking effexor at the same time, and fear the two might not have mixed well as the combination is cautioned in the Maxalt drug warnings.
