I am so glad that you asked about imitrex! I take a triptan, like imitrex, and personally I think that triptans are the best treatment for acute migraines, and they are also the most prescribed medication for acute migraines.

s experience with the imitrex has been - good or bad - and if they have any other tips of things I can try (non-medicinal) to reduce the pain, etc., of the migraines. When I was taking the triptan Axert, and I was on a different antidepressant, Effexor... I once got very sick and my doctor thought it might have been Seretonin Syndrome and changed my triptan to Zomig (Axert only comes in a very high dose). I never had any problems with the Zomig, and I took it while I was on the Effexor for a very long time.

I have been on many, many medications, all will take the edge off the pain but not make it go away. Fiorecet, Imitrex, topomax, effexor, lortab, skelaxin, and others. I also have been taking Effexor for anixity for about 2 years and it is really helping. I just went for a CT scan and it did not show any problems. I am not on some very strong painkillers for the pounding headaches and it helps a bit but at times it feel like my head will explode. Does any one have any ideas what could be wrong with me???

m not sure if my body had simply grown tolerant being on the same dose dly for 5-6 yrs or if it was because of the increased demands my body had to go through this past year, but I made the difficult decision to increase my oxycontin to 50mg three times dly. I switched from effexor to wellbutrin. so there is no reason to become an addict or to crave the medication, but ones body will still become highly dependent on the medication to a point that if you take the body off the medication abruptly you can cause seizures and even death... I take Effexor for depression and forgot to bring it with me on a 3 day getaway with my 2 young boys. My girlfriend who was also there offered me a Xanax for the 8 hr. drive home just in case I lose it (my mind that is). I only took half and it seemed to work great. The drive was a breeze. Today however, I took my usual dosage of Effexor and now I'm feeling extremely detached. Like I just don't care about anything that is happening - good or bad.

My doctor has suggested that I come off effexor (which i have been on for over 2 years) and start taking Wellbutrin XL.
