Effexor and hot flashes

Common Questions and Answers about Effexor and hot flashes

effexor

Avatar f tn Has any of you menopausal gals(like myself) had any experiences with reduced hot flashes while using Effexor? I am on HRT now and just started Effexor for anxiety and my dr. says it works great on reducing hot flashes. If this is so maybe I will cut back on HRT for hot flashes. Thanks!
518001 tn?1212419235 I'm new here and wondering what's helped each of you with your hot flashes? I'm currently using Effexor and Progesterone Cream. Thank you!
Avatar n tn I am now trying to wean myself off the Effexor and the side effects are significant (vertigo, confusion...) and the hot flashes seem worse than ever! Is there anything I can do to reduce or eliminate these without antidepressants? I need some help, it is impacting my quality of life and it is very uncomfortable at work. I appreciate any suggestions.
Avatar n tn wants me to take Effexor 37.5mg twice daily to help with the hot flashes and mood swings. My concern is that I was previously on Zoloft 50mg. and it gave me real bad headaches raised my blood pressure and sent me on a emergent run to the hsp. emergency room,,I am concerned about starting this medicience that it will cause the same problems or worse. My O.B. says they are different and that I should try the effexor. What does everyone else think?
1110049 tn?1409402144 She said her doctor told her Effexor, which she is now on, minimises hot flashes. I looked this up, and it seems that doctors are indeed prescribing Effexor to lessen hot flashes in the menopause. How do they know it does this? Why does the leaflet that comes with Effexor state it can cause hot flashes? I wouldn't like to think that ladies who do not need Effexor for depression etc. are being prescribed it for hot flashes. We all know how difficult it is to stop Effexor.
Avatar f tn I took Effexor XR for 2 years along with my Tamoxifen, It really did decrease my hot flashes and also some of my down moments. Effexor XR you have to make sure you do not miss a dose, it is a very strong antidepressant. I would start crying and couldn't stop, could not figure it out until I realized it was the medicine. So I weaned myself off with the help of my doctor.
Avatar f tn I was having mild menopausal symptoms of hot flashes about twice a week, prior to removal of my right ovary due to a large endometrioma 10cm. Since then I have had severe hot flashes whereby I'm soaking wet more than twenty a day and sleeplessness.because of night sweats. I am taking effexor and estroven over the counter with minimal effect. Its been 5weeks since the surgery.
Avatar f tn After this and beginning the Tamoxifen ,I suffered severe depression, hot flashes, excessive sweating . I began Effexor and found it helped the depression but not the flashes. Now a year later, I have started having severe ups and downs and mood swings and the sweating still there among other things. I have been taking the B1 and E suggested. can not find the periden c. no help I finally am seeing an M.D.
Avatar m tn Hi. My head feels foggy like I am not quite here and I will suddenly get so hot with beads or perspiration. A few seconds later the intense heat calms down. I also start feeling sick to my stomach 15-20 minutes after eating and feel like I may vomit. I have lost 25 lbs in two months without trying. I am a 53 year old female. I started suffering sever hot flashes about 3 years ago after my mom died. I also quit having monthly cycles and have not had one for three years.
Avatar f tn My problem is not only do I feel like I'm on fire constantly, my cloth are on and off, on and off. I sleep with a fam or airconditioner and I also get so cold with shills that I sleep with 3 blankets. I can only compare menapause to HELL. Advise: Keep off the caffeen (Coffee, coke, tea), it will make the hot flashes more intense.
378102 tn?1215571666 When I was first dx the hot flashes were unreal!!! I have taken effexor and now am on Elavil which has helped alot. They are not gone totally but I feel 100% better. Maybe it's the time away since my dx. and a combo with the Elavil, but they have really slowed down. I take it at bedtime as it knocks me out,but it has been a while since I have been woken up from a hot flash.
Avatar f tn I have been having terrible hot flashes and I don't want to go on hormone therapy so my Dr prescribed Prozac and that didn't help. We tried Effexor which I have been taking for 6 weeks and it helps tremendously but it is ruining my sex life. I took Wellbutrin years ago and it didn't affect my sex life so I'm wondering if this could be a help with my hot flashes.
746058 tn?1248344665 Hi, My name is Lois (Groggyfroggy) I'm new here. My OBGYN also put me on Effexor for hot flashes and night sweats because I wasn't a candidate for hormone therapy and I'm going thru' menopause. I happen to have POTS, but wasn't put on the medication for the POTS. I became very sick after that with nausea, shakiness, and a most terrible moodiness. I had to be taken off the medication and it took quite a while to get out of my system.
Avatar n tn I have not had any surgery as of yet. Since about two months ago, a month before diagnosis I have been having extreme hot flashes every 5 minutes, not sweating, just so hot. Sometimes its followed by extreme cold sometimes not. I get very cold at any given time as well. In the morning with nightgown, heavy an slippers, I cant seem to warm up either. I know I am at the age where menopause symptoms begin but something is just not right. Im sure of it.
Avatar f tn Certain antidepressants can also help with hot flashes, and one study found that accupunctue brought about the same level of relief as Effexor. Best wishes!
Avatar f tn If you can tolerate Effexor XR, it does help with the hot flashes and mood problems. However, it will give you a horrible headache/ill feeling for the first week. Once you are on the medicine, it works really well. Getting off the medicine is equally horrible. I'm 2 years into tamoxifen, just weaned off Effexor in early March after a year and a half on it.
Avatar m tn I took effexor and buspar together worst time of my life!! I'm 33 year old female was rushed to the ER due to serotonin syndrome never will I take effexor again. I initially was taking 15 mg buspar and was put on effexor for depression I felt like a zombie didn't eat had no energy I had needle feelings all over my chest couldn't breathe dizzy hot flashes .
Avatar m tn Smallest question I have ever seen posted. But the answer is yes. It can do. It can work both ways. Can feel hot or cold. The blood rushes to the parts of the body where it is needed most of all once it senses danger brought on by anxiety attacks. I mean there is no danger. It is the mind picking up on the signal of what we see as danger. So it can can cause us to feel a little hot every so often. Works the same as it is would with females. No difference at all.
Avatar f tn i had a full hysterectomy 5 yrs ago and last 2 yrs i had hot flashes and now i get no less then 15 a day and i am soaked like i took shower and put clothes right on, but i have no uterus or ovaries, ppl say it is nto hot flashes, what could it be and how can i have a normal life it has been a night mare the last 5 months and they tire me so fast i have no energy
Avatar m tn Last night was my third night taking 37.5 effexor. I've been waking up nauseous, jittery and anxious. I take it at bedtime because it makes me nauseous and I find I get a good nights rest. I take it for panic attacks and hot flashes! I'm 50 year old woman. I had a panic attack yesterday. Are these normal side effects?
11852 tn?1216841443 Just got from the endo. Good news is all my scans came back clean, so it looks like I'm cancer-free. I would be doing the happy dance, but I'm too dam tired to really care. Sad isn't it! Doc ask me how I was feeling and I told her about the extreme fatigue I've felt for a long time. I asked if there could be other causes besides thyroid history and the menopause. Her theory is I'm depressed and Effexor (taking for hot flashes) isn't working.
Avatar n tn At least I think they are hot flashes, body temperature off, feel clammy and sweaty. Mood swings. I s this all part of the side effects? This discussion is related to Tamoxifin side effects.
Avatar f tn i am switching from effexor to citalopram because the cost is cheaper. i have been taking effexor for mild depression, insomnia, and hot flashes.
Avatar f tn Increased anxiety is very common when going into peri, and those ‘3 am wake-up calls’ sound like classic night sweats! Many doctors are prescribing Effexor to help with hot flashes and night sweats these days, so it may be that they became more obvious when you decreased the dosage. I don’t blame you for being cautious though, I’ve heard several women say that they had nasty withdrawals when trying to quit Effexor.
1361367 tn?1280632089 I am going to speak to my oncologist who originally put me on effexor for my hot flashes 18 months ago. My PCP gave me the instructions above. I think my excessive weight gain in such a short period of time, is from being hypothyroid. I was panicking to remove anything that was attributing to that. I don't need anymore craziness added to the pot right now!
