I have gained nearly 70 pounds since beginning Effexor XR and if the only solution is to go on a 975 calorie diet, then I guess I'l just stay oeverweight. As a teacher, I doubt that I could get through the day at school on that few calories, not to mention my work at home, or any hobbies or exercise!! I do take sublingual B12, and I do not drink caffiene. "They" obviously know that anybody who eats fewer than 1000 calories a day will lose weight.

I stopped effexor 75 cold turkey and got very severe leg pains and muscle spasms. After 6 days, I restarted at 37.5 - the dose I had been taking customarily for years. It has been about 10 days and I still have the muscle spasms. I do not know what to do about this. Thank you.

ve been taking 200mg for a while now --went back to the doctor and told her I was on effexor before so she decided that would probably work in my favor so I'm taking the smallest amount possible of the efexor along with the limictal. I've been taking it together for a couple of weeks now, but have noticed it's interfering with my concentration, pluss it's almost iffy that I may be back where I started...could it be that I havn't taken it long enouph?

and they gave me medication to stop vomiting. I have been on and off effexor for 20 yrs. and currently have been on these 2 drugs for approx. 4 years. I've never had this happen, nor do I remember if I was ever this late on a missed dose. The Dr. doesn't know what it was, he didn't think it was food poisoning because I didn't have diarrhea. Could this have been the result of being late on my meds? I am also on Vitorin, HCTZ, and Atenolol that was forgotten that day.

Hi, I have been on Effexor XR for 3 years and I have gained about 40-50pounds, most when my dose was increased to 225, now I am on 75mg b/c I'm getting ready to wean off the medicine in a couple of weeks,and I haven't lost anything yet. My eating habits have not changed and I exercise. I have always been underweight and I could eat whatever I wanted...I'm only 26 years old...I know my metabolism has changed some, but not enough to pack on 40 pounds.

shoulders , he became disabled and he is very very active and it made him depressed so he was put on effexor and to be brutally honest here , he smoked p-- heavily for the pain but when he started the effexor he stopped the other he said he didn't need it so I think he used it also for depression and now many years later he wasn't sleeping good so that's when the seroquel was given to him , he's had no complaints and he's not BP just depressed.

I was away for the weekend and forgot to bring my Trazadone with me and my friend suggested I go to a health food shop to see if they had something to help me sleep. I was recommended Magnesium and 5HTP - to be taken together which I started taking a few days ago. Today I started feeling very depressed and couldn't figure out why until I spoke to a friend who said I shouldn't be combing 5HTP and anti-depressants. Is that true?

compazine may help with nausea and might be useful....How long have you been on the effexor? Give it a while before you adjust effexor....and let your Doc adjust it (I cant stand effexor personally - but we all react differently) Check out the Thomas Recipe and Amino Acid Protocol links listed in Health Pages here.....they work....good luck!

I have been taking Effexor XR 450mg and Buproprion 450mg for a couple of years. I'm weaning off the Effexor, going onto Pristiq and continuing the Buproprion.

would not take lexapro and effexor together. for effexor withdrawal i take omega3 fish oil caps twice a day//benadryl as needed for dizzyness\\ b12 sublingualtwice a day\\st. johns wort twice a day// vitamin d3 twice a day ---ibuprofen(motrin) as needed for muscle pain. as far as i am concerned, i will never take a prescription rx. for anxiety and depression again. i also have ptsd. i am sticking to st. johns wort and omega 3 fish oil caps. both will treat depression.

My appetite for food, socialization, exercise, (just about everything) has disappeared. I have some memory loss and am deeply depressed although I take Effexor XR 150 mg every evening. Should I ask my doctor to change the depression symptoms?

I switched from effexor to wellbutrin. I had to be on both medications at the same time for a long time because of the effexor withdrawal... it was so hard to come off the effexor, I was at the lowest dose for a very long time, 25mg, because I couldn't get off of it the withdrawal symptoms were too bad for me.

Good for you for not stopping it. I did that once and found out the consequences. And my psychiatrist told me that if you have an extended history with depression, that stopping anti-depressants can make it more difficult to treat and you will likely need a higher dose to get the same results. Whew! All the best to you.

I take Effexor for depression and forgot to bring it with me on a 3 day getaway with my 2 young boys. My girlfriend who was also there offered me a Xanax for the 8 hr. drive home just in case I lose it (my mind that is). I only took half and it seemed to work great. The drive was a breeze. Today however, I took my usual dosage of Effexor and now I'm feeling extremely detached. Like I just don't care about anything that is happening - good or bad.

My doctor has suggested that I come off effexor (which i have been on for over 2 years) and start taking Wellbutrin XL. I was to take both of them for 1 week and then stop the effexor and take Wellbutrin only. I have not been feeling very good very tense, anxious, lightheaded and chest pains. I spoke to a pharmasist who suggested stopping the effexor straight away and continuing with the Wellbutrin.

Bottle says take 2 a day, but I would take 4. and then a multivitamin with food.

I have been weaning of 37.5 mg of Effexor for a week and a half taking it every other day. When can I start taking 25-50mg of 5Htp. Will this be safe to do? The Effexor is driving me crazy (sweating, fatigue, nausea..etc)..

Do you think the PN was always this bad and reducing the Effexor is allowing the pain and numbness to come through, or do you think the additional issues are side-effects of reducing the Effexor?

I am quitting effexor (slowly but surely) and am down to 50 mg from 150. The only problem I have is depressed mood which my shrink says is a withdrawal symptom. I plan to be med free as long as I can and if I have to get back on meds ever again (been on them for 11 years continuously) it will be lexapro first because I used to take celexa and it was working better than others. My doctor said if I get too depressed to start lexapro right away. He gave me samples.

I also was on Effexor and had a incident that my eye got a bump behind the lid and turned purple (The lid ) I also had dark circles under my eyes a few days before this. How much do they really know about the effects of this drug on the general population.Each individual is different. Thanks for any responses.
